Harman, Wayne, Pa., assigner to The Buddi Company, Philadelphia, Pa., a corporation of Penn- Sylvania This invention relates to a data-posting board, especially to a board adapted for keeping an itemized progress record of a job, and has for an object the provision of lmprovements in this art.

One of the particular objects of the invention is to provide a data-posting board having a slot running in one direction for receiving a master item card and a plurality of slots running in a transverse direction for receiving item progress cards which are coordinated in position with items on the master card.

Another object is to provide an arrangement for obscuring the unit item cards until such time as it is desired to make entries on the cards.

Another object is to provide a board having a coordinate arrangement of card slots in which the unit item cards move past the master card.

Another object is to provide a board which retains cards against accidental or inadvertent removal.

Another object is to provide a board of the speciied character which is sturdy in structure, easy to manufacture, and convenient to use.

The above and other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description of an exemplary embodiment, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Fig. l is a front elevation of the board;

Fig. 2 is an enlarged section taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1;

Fig. 3 is an enlarged section taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. l; and

Fig. 4 is an enlarged section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.

The board comprises means forming a plurality of card holding slots extending in parallel in one direction, here horizontally, and a coordinate card holding slot 11 extending in the transverse direction, here vertically.

The card 12 in the large vertical slot 11 of a card holder panel 13 may be referred to as the master card and when used as a job progress card will show the job numberV and other general information at the top, as at 14, above the zone of the top horizontal slots. At zones 15, opposite the horizontal slots, the master card will carry a designation of the items dealt with in the respective horizontal lines. These may consist of data as to the operation to be performed.

The cards 17 which slide in the horizontal slots 10 of retaining guides 18 may carry indicia showing specific progress information for each item. For example, there will be an identification of the item, together with information as to the name of the operator and number of hours applied to the item. The cards are preferably shorter than the slots and since the horizontal slots are located behind the panel forming the vertical slot, the cards may be pushed partly beneath the master card panel with only their general item designations left exposed. When the cards are in this position, as shown in the top rows of Fig. l, it will be understood that no Work has been started on these items.

Patented July 26, 1955 ice When the item cards are pulled out partly, or wholly into exposed position, as shown at the mid-height of Fig. 1, it will be understood that Work is in progress on these items. When work is completed the item cards may be entirely removed from the board, as shown at the bottom Structurally, the board may be formed in various Ways, one structural form being shown in the drawings. Here the card retaining guides 18 are made integral with backing plates 20 which may be overlapped like house sheathing and secured together or may be connected in other Ways. In the specific form they are spot welded to a at base board or plate 21. The backing plates Z0 are notched at their outer ends, as at 22, to provide finger pull grip on the ends of the cards to remove them. It will be noted that the ends of the slot-bearing guides 18 are squeezed down together at the outer ends, as at 23, to prevent the cards from moving straight out of the slots.

The panel 13 which provides the slot for the vertical master card rests on the tops of the retaining guides 18 and is secured thereto as by arc Welds at desired locations. At the top the panel 13 is ofset rearwardly, as at 24, to lie at on the base plate 21. The part 24 may be spot welded to the base plate 21.

Means, such as a tab 2S having an upstanding edge 26 may be provided for preventing the card 12 from falling out if the board is turned upside down. The tab 25 is secured to the part 24, as by spot welding. Its upstanding edge 26 is located above the upper end of the card retaining elements 27 of the panel 13 and extends out beyond the front face of the panel so that it is necessary to lift up the top end of the master card to slide it out.

The item cards, as stated, are free to slide in behind the panel 13. Preferably they are prevented from moving out at the covered side, as by turning the edge 30 of the base plate up over the ends of the horizontal slots and over the edge of the panel 13. This forms adequate securement of the panel 13 at this edge.

At the bottom edge the base plate 21 may be turned back in a bend 31 to retain the parts together and provide a smooth edge.

Means, such as holes 32, may be provided at the top of the board for hanging it up.

It is thus seen that the invention provides an improved data-card board which is simple and inexpensive in construction, convenient to use, and durable in service.

While one embodiment has been described for the purpose of illustration, it is to be understood that there may be other embodiments within the scope of the invention.

What is claimed is:

l. A data-posting board comprising in combination, a plurality of slotted card holders extending in one direction, and a slotted card holder extending in the other coordinate direction, the second said card holder extending across and above one end of the first said card holders to partly obscure the cards of the first said holders when pushed in behind the second card holder.

2. A data-posting board comprising in combination a plurality of parallel horizontal card holders, each having an upwardly opening channel shaped card holding and guiding lower edge, and a vertical side-grooved vertical card holder secured at one end to the tops of said horizontal card holders to provide space for cards in the horizontal card holders behind the vertical card holder.

3. A data-posting board comprising in combination a plurality of parallel horizontal card holders, each having an upwardly opening channel shaped card holding and guiding lower edge, a vertical card holder secured across and above one end of the horizontal card holders to partly obscure the cards of the horizontal card holders when pushed in behind the vertical card holder, and means closing the space at the outer end of the horizontal card holders at the outer edge of the vertical card holder.

A data-posting board comprising in combination a plurality of parallel horizontal card holders, each having an upwardly opening channel shaped card holding and guiding lower edge, and a vertical side-grooved vertical card holder secured to the tops of said horizontal card holders to provide space for cards in the horizontal card holders behind the vertical card holder, the grooves of the horizontal card holders being closed at the outer end remote from the vertical card holder.

A data-posting board comprising in combination a plurality of parallel horizontal card holders, each having an upwardly opening channel shaped card holding and guiding lower edge, and a vertical side-grooved vertical card holder secured to the tops of said horizontal card holders to provide space for cards in the horizontal card holders behind the vertical card holder, the horizontal card holders being notched across their full width at an angle inclined inwardly and upwardly at the outer end remote from the vertical card holder to provide nger grip of the end of the cards.

A data-posting board comprising in combination a plurality of parallel horizontal card holders, each having an upwardly opening channel shaped card holding and guiding lower edge, a vertical card holder secured across and above one end of the horizontal card holders to partly obscure the cards of the horizontal card holders when pushed in behind the vertical card holder, means closing the ends of the horizontal guides, a stop above the top of the vertical card holder, and angular finger grip notches in the end of the horizontal card holders remote from the vertical card holder, the angular nger grip notches extending inwardly and upwardly from the lower edge channels.
