DISPLAY FORM 3 Sheets-Sheet 3 April 26, 1955 Filed Oct. e, 1954 United States Patent O l 2,707,070 DISPLAY FORM George Tamer, Everett, Mass. Application Uetober 6, 1954, Serim No. 460,717 Claims. (Cl. 223-68) This invention relates to a display form for ladies garments, and especially for ladies blouses and the like.
One object of the invention is to provide a display form for this purpose which is inexpensive to manufacture but which will display a ladys blouse or similar garment in a realistic manner.
The display form herein illustrated has a body member on which the garment is supported and which is somewhat on the order of an ordinary coat-hanger- It a garment such as a ladys blouse is hung on an ordinary coathanger, the body of the garment will hang from the coathanger in a shapeless fashion.
Another object of my invention is to provide a display form having a body in the nature of a coat-hanger but which is provided with jointed arm members for supporting the sleeves of the blouse, and is also provided with a a bosom member which serves to give the front of the blouse supported on the body member a realistic appearance.
In order to give an understanding of the invention, I have illustrated one embodiment thereof in the drawings which will now be described, after which the novel features will be pointed out in the appending claims.
In the drawings:
Fig. l is a front view of a display form embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a side view thereof;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged section on the line 3 3, Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional View of the outer end of one of the sleeve members;
Fig. 5 is a view of one of the sectional arm members showing the manner in which it can be adjusted into different positions;
Fig. 6 is a view illustrating a garment in the form of a ladys blouse which is supported on the display form.
The display form is made with a body member 1 which may be of wood or of plastic material and which has the general form and shape of a coat-hanger, said body member having the two curved shoulder sections 2.
The display form also includes a pair of jointed arm members 3 which are secured to the ends of the body member. Each arm member presents a core element el which extends from one end to the other of the arm member, and which is made of soft wire that can be readily bent but which has no appreciable resiliency, so that it will maintain any shape into which it is bent. Each arm member also includes a plurality of tubular sections 5 and spherical sections 6 which are strung on the wire core 4, said tubular and spherical sections being arranged alternatively with a tubular section between each two adjacent spherical sections. The spherical sections 6 have diametrical openings through which the core wire 4 passes. The spherical and tubular sections are preferably arranged so that there will be a spherical section 6 on the inner end of each arm and also a spherical section at the outer end of each arm.
Each arm member is attached to an attaching block 7 secured to the corresponding end of the body member 1, and said block has an opening 8 into which the end 9 of the core wire extends, said end 9 being secured to the block 7 by means of a set screw lll.
The tubular and spherical sections are held in iirm frictional engagement with each other, and in the construction herein shown this is accomplished by bending the outer end of the core wire over into a loop formation 11 which engages the outer face of the end spherical section 6 and thus holds the tubular and spherical sections in firm frictional contact.
The character of the wire core 4 permits each arm member to be swung up or down, or toward the front or toward the rear, the wire bending at the point where it passes from the top spherical section 6 into the top tubular section S, or at the point where it passes from said top spherical section 6 into the attaching block 7. Similarly, the arm member can be bent at any of the 2,707,070 Patented Apr. 26, 1955 spherical sections 6, as illustrated in the drawings, and because of the soft flexible nature of the wire the arm will maintain any shape into which it is bent.
The invention also includes a bosom element 12 which is made of wire having more or less resilience, said wire being bent to form the two end outwardly bulging sections 13 and the central inwardly directed section 14. The wire is also preferably bent centrally to form the complete loop 15 which permits the length dimension of the bosom member to be shortened or increased to fit dilerent lengths ot body members 1. The ends of the bosom member 12. are detachably connected to the ends of the body member 1, and for this purpose each end of the wire constituting the bosom member is bent outwardly, as shown at 16, and then backwardly as indicated at 17, Fig. 2, and then inwardly as shown at 18. The inwardly bent portions 18 are received in openings formed in the ends of the body member 1. The bosom member is retained in its operative position by the engagement of the downwardly directed portion 19 which depends from the inner end of the outwardly bent portion 16, and which lies against the front face of the corresponding block 7, as best seen in Fig. 2. The wire by which the bosom is formed is somewhat resilient and its resilient character serves to retain the end portions 18 in the openings Ztl.
The body member may be supported on the display counter or any other support by any suitable means. As herein shown, there is provided a stand or pedestal 21 having a base 22 to rest on a counter, the upper end of the pedestal having the gooseneck 23 presenting the down-turned end portion 24. The body member 1 is shown as secured to this down-turned end portion 24 by means of an attaching screw 25.
When a ladys blouse or other similar garment is placed on the display stand, the shoulder sections 2 of the body will serve to hold the shoulder portions of the blouse in proper position, and the arms 3, which are inserted into the sleeves of the blouse, may be adjusted to support said sleeves in any desired position. The front of the blouse being draped over the bosom member 12 will present a realistic appearance, so that a customer can actually visualize how the blouse would look when being worn.
1 claim:
l. A display form for displaying ladies blouses and similar garments comprising a body portion shaped to support the shoulders of the blouse, and two arm portions attached to and extending from the ends of the body portion, each arm portion comprising a core member of soft wire which can be readily bent and which will maintain its bent shape, a plurality of tubular sections and a plurality of spherical sections strung on said core member and having an alternate arrangement with a tubular section between each two adjacent spherical sections.
2. A display form as defined in claim l in which each arm portion has a spherical section on: its inner end adjacent the body portion and another spherical section on its outer end.
3. A display form as defined in claim 1 in which the inner end of the core wire of each arm extends beyond the end spherical section and into an opening in the end of the body portion, and is secured to the body portion by a set screw.
4. A display form as defined in claim l and which also includes a bosom member secured to the ends of the body member, and means holding the bosom member in a position in front of and below the body member.
5. A display form as delined in claim l and which includes a bosom member made of resilient wire and presenting two outwardly bulging portions, and an intermediate inwardly directed portion, the ends of the bosom member tting in openings formed in the ends of the body member, and means cooperating with the end portions of the bosom member to maintain it in a forwardly directed position.
