Description

. June 4, 1957 J. BURNBAUM ORNAMENT FOR A TREE OR 'OTHER DECORATIVE PURPOSE Filed July 22, 1955 2 SheetS-Sheet 2 i i INVENTOR.
ORNAMENT FOR A TREE OR OTHER DECORATIVE PURPOSE .lack Bumbaum, Newton, Mass., assgnor to Bradford Novelty Co., Inc., Camhridge, Mass., a Corporation Application July 22, 1955, Serial No. 523,703 6 Claims. (Cl. 41-10) This invention relates to an ornament for a Christmas tree or for general decorative purposes.
One object of my invention is to provide such an ornament With connecting means for the parts so they can quickly be assembled, or disassembled, yet is of sturdy construction.
Another object is to provide each section of my ornament with star points or extensions, and with one section having guide means whereby the star points of each section can be positioned by said guide means to produce a most eiective ornamental effect. y
A further object is to form said star points with ribs that taper outwardly to a common end, whereby light shines brilliantly near said end, and its brightness intensifies at the very end.
The foregong and other objects which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a construction, combination and arrangement of parts such as is disclosed by the drawings. The nature of the invention is such as to render it susceptible to various changes and modifications, and therefore, I am not to be limited to the construction disclosed by the drawings nor to the particular parts described in the specification; but am entitled to all such changes therefrom as fall within the scope of my Claims.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of my ornament.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of an outer Section or part of my ornament, the star points being shown broken away. t 7
Fig. 3 is an elevational View, looking at the interior of the ornament.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged, sectional view taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is an elevational View of my ornament with sad` r outer section shown in Fig. 2 removed, and looking at the interior of the ornament.
Fig. 6 is a side elevational view of my ornament as shown in Fig. 5.
Fig. 7 is an elevational view of a part of an elongate tube provided with my ornament.
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of my complete ornament.
AS illustrated, my ornament may be made of plastic or the like, and has a central member including a -removable outer Section 10 having a hollow body 12 the outer surface of which referably is curved, and from which extends a plurality of outwardly tapering star points or ornamental extensions, which are made integral with said body, as shown. Each point is formed of a plurality of tapering ribs 16, as shown. At the inner, or open, side of Said body 12, a Circular projecting rim 18 is provided that is inset somewhat from the outer periphery of said inner side. Extending from and beyond Said rim 18, at points spaced apart less than 180 degrees, as shown, are two attaching lugs 20 which have a shoulder 21 at the outside, extending outwardly from and commencing at a point in substantially arcuate alinement With said rim.

ICC
My ornament central member has another outer section 22 which is opposite to and spaced from the firstmentioned section. It has a hollow body 24 with curved outer surface, from which body extend a plurality of outwardly tapering points or ornamental extensions 26 which are integral with said body and each is formed of a plurality of tapering ribs. At the inner side of said body 24 a Circular n'm 30 projects beyond it, that is inset somewhat from the outer periphery of said inner side.
A connector member 32 is positioned between said two sections, having a Circular, hollow body 34 which has a Cut-out 36 therein. Adjacent the latter, a half section 38, of an elongate tube 39, extends from said body 34 downwardly in position of use on a tree top and Which has a dividing shoulder 40 at an intermediate point thereof. Extending outwardly from said body 34 are integral tapering points or ornamental extensions 42, each formed of a plurality of tapering ribs, one of which ribs may have a hook portion at its outer end to use in hanging this ornament when desired. Between one said point 42 and another are guide extensions 44 which eX- tend outwardly a shorter distance than said points.
At one side edge of Said body 34 a retaining flange 46 extends radially inward in which there are two openings or breaks 48 of a size So positioned as to simultaneously receive said outer section lugs 20. Upon entrance of the lugs Said outer section 10 is rotated, thus bringing said 'lug shoulders 21 inwardly of and in frietional contact with said flange 46. Rotation preferably ceases when said points 14 are opposite said guide extensions 44. Said outer section 10 will thus remain attached to said connector member 32 until this section is rotated to the point where said lugs 29 can pass out of said flange openings 48.
Said other outer section rim 30 is of a size to extend into the interior of said connector body 34, making a frictional fit therewith, and this other section 22 is rotated until its said points 26 are opposite said guide extensions 44. The latter thus bridge the space between said points 14 and 26, of the two outer sections 10 and 22, giving the appearance of continuity between them. To make a permanent connection of the other outer section 22 to said connector member 32 cement may be applied to said rim 30 before inserting in said connector body 34.
While said outer section 22 is shown as a separate part from said connector member 32, since it is intended to become a permanent part of said connector member, the two parts could be integral and serve the same purpose.
To complete said tube 39 a separate half Section 49 is provided to match said half Section 38. This section 49 has a shoulder 50 at an'intermediate point 'thereof which is opposite said shoulder 40 when said Sections 38 and 49 are joined. There is a slit 51 in said latter section 48 extending a short distance from the inner end through which an electrical cord 52 passes. This slit 50 is applicable when said tube 39 is placed over a tree top. An electrical socket 54 receives Said cord 52, which socket has one end that -its into said tube 39 and the other extends into the interior of this ornament. An electric light bulb 56 screw-threadedly connects with said socket thus illuminating my ornament.
