ANIMAL-TRAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent Nol. 279,126, dated June 12, 1883,
Application filed March 2, 1883.
To (LH wil/0m, t muy concern:
Beit known that I, J AooB H. BRUBA'KER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockton, in the county of' Clearfield and State of' Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Animal-Traps 5 and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of' the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of' reference marked thereon, which f'orm a part of' this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in .snares or traps to capture destructive birds-21s, for instance, crows, hawks, and such Ylike-and plundering animals-as bears, &c. 5 and it consists in the combination and arrangement of'parts, substantially' as hereinafter more fully set fortl and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is aA perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section, of myimproved animal-trap. Fig. 3 is also a vertical section of'la modification of the In putting myinvention into practice I em ploy a post, A, which is constructed with a chamber, a, in the lower part, as clearly seen. in Fig.2. p
i B is a platform arranged above the post, and having a standard or rod, b,fixed to its lower side, said standard reaching down through a channel or passage, b, in'the post into t-he chamber a thereof', where it is adapted to fbe supported upon one end of' a notched lever, l. Said lever is pivoted near its notched end to the post A, said end thereof' being engaged by a pawl or detent, c, also pivoted to the post.
D D a-rc a number of' springs or elastic rods, secured to the upper end of the post and extending up around the platform B, a short distance above the same, said rods having outwardly-bent portions or stops d.
Eis a rope or wire, with one end adapted to be looped around the upper ends of the rods or springs D, being held from sliding down (No model.)
too far thereon by the stops or projections d of' the latter, and passed through the apertured plate e, fixed to the post, while its other end is connected to the forward end oi' a spring, F, arranged at one side of' the chamber n and adapted to extend thereinto and beyond the same, and rest against the under side of the detent c, where the rope o1l wire is attached to it. A spring-pawl and ratchet, f f, prevent the uncoiling of' the spring F from the recoil action of the spring when the trap issprung. The end of the spring to which the wire or rope is secured is apertured to permit the connection ofl the samel to the under side of' the detent c, which has a pin or projection, g, to enter the aperture of the spring, as clearly shown.
In lieu of' the coiled spring, a weight, as show1iinl `ig..`i, may be used for springing 7" the trap. It will be seen that should a bird, such as beforeanentioned, alight or an animal step on the platform B, the weight of the former or the pressure of' the paw of' the latter will force the platform downward, and thus trip the lever l, when the recoil action of' the spring or the descent of' the weight will cause the sudden drawing otl the loop of the wire or rope ot'f the spring-rods and partly through the apertured plate. of' parts, it is obvious, will be to draw the loop tightly around the leg of the bird or animal,
as the ease may be, and thus secure or eapjl turc it.
Oi course the capacity and stability of the trap are to be governed according to the class of service it is to perform, whether it is to be used to capture birds or animals.
I do not confine myself tothe exact form or proportion of parts, as I am aware that the same can be changed without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages ot' my invention.
I claim and desire to. secure by Letters Pat-I entl. The combination of a platform mounted rlhe effect ot' this action upon a rod erstandard, the lower end of which rests upon a notched lever, a pawl, a
