Description

Jan. 29, 1957 v J. c. THOMASMA TOILET SEAT COVER DISPENSING PACKAGE Filed Sept. 14, 1953 51 G: 4 6 /7 Jab M a 795%??? filme United States Patent TOILET SEAT COVER DISPENSING PACKAGE John C. Thomasma, Kalamazoo, Mich. Application September 14, 1953, Serial No. 379,760
3 Claims. (Cl. 221-26) This invention relates to improvements in toilet seat cover dispensing package.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide a toilet seat cover. dispensing package which when fully collapsed is compact and permits ready withdrawal of the cover sheets one by one from a stack of reverse folded sheets.
Second, to provide a dispensing package of toilet seat covers in which the sheets are arranged in a reverse folded stack, the sheets being securely retained in the package while they are withdrawable singly.
Third, to provide a package having these advantages which may be very economically produced.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of the invention will definitely appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of the invention is clearly illustratedin the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. l is a perspective view of the package of my invention in fully closed position.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the package partially opened for the withdrawal of sheets. Fig. 3 is a perspective View with the sheets in fully extended position illustrating structural details of the sheets and cover of the manner releasably securing the sheets to the cover.
Fig. 4 is a transverse section with the rear flap in open position or positioned to facilitate withdrawal of a sheet.
The stack or pack of sheets of this invention is designated generally by the numeral 1 and the cover therefor by the numeral 2. The sheets 3 are formed of light or thin paper and are arranged one upon another and reversely folded at 4 and 5 resulting in a bottom fold 6, an intermediate fold 7 and a top fold 8. The sheets are provided with pairs of spaced slits 9 and 10 opening to their end edges and located near the'folding line 4. These slits form tear tabs 11 which are readily severed from the body of the sheet. The sheets have generally oval slits 12 therein providing central openings and flaps 13 connected to the fold portion 8 of the sheets at 14. These flaps have angular slits 15 adjacent their rear ends pro viding tear-out portions 16 which are secured to the back panel 17 of the cover member by means of staples 18. The tear-out tabs 11 are secured to the back panel of the cover by the staples 18.
The cover is formed of an integral blank cut and scored to provide the back panel and flaps 19 which are foldable inwardly upon the reverse folded back as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, rear flaps 20, adjacent ends of which are spaced at 21, and front flaps 22, adjacent ends of which are spaced at 23. The front flaps are provided with tongues 7.4 engageable with slits provided therefor in the end flaps. One end flap has a U-shaped slit defining a tongue 26. The back panel has a slit 27 therein with which the tongue 26 may be engaged when the package is folded longitudinally on a line indicated at 28. In that folded position which is shown in Fig. 1 the sheets are completely enclosed and the package is relatively compact.
The sheets are desirably formed with finger tab portions 2? at their outer edges. These finger tab portions may be readily grasped between the adjacent ends of the front flaps 22, the inner edges of which are recessed at 30 to facilitate such grasping. When a sheet is to be removed the rear flaps 20 are desirably swung outwardly as shown in Fig. 4, the top sheet grasped by its finger tab 29 and pulled rearwardly which withdraws the sheet from the folded pack or stack, the sheet being pulled free from the tear tab or anchoring portions 11 and 16. This results without objectionably or undesirably mutilating the sheet. To perform this operation it is not necessary to disconnect the front flaps from the end flaps.
Packages embodying this invention may be very economically produced and are attractive in appearance. The cover requires a relatively small area of stock as compared to the dimensions of the sheets.
I have illustrated and described the invention in a highly practical commercial embodiment thereof. I have not attempted to illustrate or describe other embodiments and adaptations as it is believed this disclosure will enable the practice of the invention as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A dispensing package comprising a cover, and a stack of precut sheets, the stack being reversely folded upon itself to provide a bottom fold, an intermediate fold and a top fold in each sheet, the sheets having central finger tab extensions on their superimposed outer ends, said outer ends being free swinging edges of the top folds, the bottom fold of the sheets having opposed pairs of slits extending from their side edges providing edge tear tabs, the sheets having elongated generally oval centrally disposed slits extending lengthwise thereof and defining central openings and providing flaps attached at their front ends to the sheets, the sheet flaps having tear facilitating slits adjacent their free ends, the cover being formed of an integral blank cut and scored to provide a back panel on which the bottom, intermediate and top folds of each sheet are superimposed, the stack of sheets with the bottom, intermediate and top folds of each sheet superimposed upon the back panel being secured to the back panel for individual detachment by fasteners disposed through said edge tear tabs and through said flaps at the rear of and adjacent to said tear slits therein, said back panel having end flaps folded inwardly upon the ends of the folded stack of sheets disposed on the back panel, said back panel having a pair of longitudinally spaced rear flaps folded upon the stack of sheets and upon the end flaps and said back panel having a pair of longitudinally spaced front flaps folded upon the front edges of the stack of sheets and upon the end flaps, the folded edges of the sheets of the stack being approximately parallel to the folded edges of the rear and front flaps to the back panel, the longitudinal spacing of the rear and front flaps being approximately midway the length of the back panel to facilitate folding the back panel and the stack thereon upon themselves transversely of said folded edges of the sheets of the stack and approximately midway the length of the rear panel, said front flaps having projecting tongues adjacent their ends, said end flaps having slits with which said tongues may be engaged, the swinging edges of the front flaps having recesses merging into their inner ends, said finger tabs being disposed beneath said recesses to facilitate grasping of said finger tabs.
