Application December 7, 1953, Serial No. 396,537 '6 Claims. (Cl. 128-229) This invention relates to fountain syringes and proposes certain improvements in our co-pending application, Serial No. 384,108, filed October 5, 1953, now Patent No. 2,705,495, for fountain syringe.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a fountain syring adapted for vaginal use which may be readily mounted on to a water bowl or over a conventional toilet seat and which permits the user to give herself an internal bath with a minimum of inconvenience.

It is another object of the present invention to provide a fountain syringe of the above type which includes novel means for operating and adjusting the syringe to the comfort of the user, together with a feature comprising a cleansing fabric which is disposable and which affords really thorough cleansing.

Other objects of the present invention are to provide a fountain syringe bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, has a minimum number of part-s, is easy to use, efiicient in operation, and portable.

For other objects and a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the invention shown in a contracted position;

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary side elevational view of the device shown in an extended operative position, shown partly broken away;

Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken along the line 4-4 of Fig. 2; and

Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the cotton boot forming a part of the invention.

Referring now more in detail to the drawing, represents a conventional toilet including a seat 11 and a cover 12.

In the practice of our invention, an improved fountain syringe is provided and includes a cylindrical mounting block 13 having suitably secured to the bottom thereof a suction cup 14, the suction cup 14 permitting the block 13 to be easily and firmly mounted on the toilet 10 in the manner shown in Fig. l. A clamp 15 (Fig. 4) is secured to the side of mounting block 13 by means of a bolt 16 and a wing nut 17, it being obvious that tightening of the wing nut 17 will contract the internal diameter of the bracket 15 and lock the device in desired angular position. An elongated rigid tube 21 is secured within clamp 15. A second rigid tube 18 is slidable within tube 21 and has secured to its outer end a knob or handle 19. The rigid tubing 18 receives therewithin a flexible tubing 20 connected to a source of water, for example a faucet or a water bag, not shown. Rigid tube 18 is telescopically received within one end of the tube 21 and is locked longitudinally thereof by means of a set screw 22. The other end of the tube 21 is flanged at 23. A plate 24 of rubber "ice or other suitable. material. abuts the flange 23 in the manner shown in. Fig. 2. A flexible coiled tubing 25 is connected at one. end to the interior of the rigid tube 13 by means of" circular grooves 26-, the flexible spring tubing 23 continuing beyond the rigid tubing 21 and securely mounting at its outer end a rubber bit 27 Tubing 28 is connected at one end to the tubing, 20 Within the tube 18 and extends along within the spring tubing, 25 through an aperture provided in the bit 27 to complete the liquid line. The bit 27 is provided with openings 29 and 30 disposed at right angles to the main opening and communicating with the interior of the tubing 28. An extension spring 36 is secured at each end to the small diameter portion 39 of plate 24 and annular recess 40 on bit 27. A flexible water guard 31 is suitably secured to the end of the tube 21, the plate 24 and disc 31 receiving therebetween the ends of a water tight rubber covering 32 which covers spring 36, and a cotton boot 33, the other end of the rubber covering 32 being suitably secured watertight within a groove 34 provided in bit 27. Cotton boot 33 being removable has a rubber elastic secured at each end 37 and 38 making the openings semi-closed to grip firmly at groove 34 and at its other end. The cotton boot 33 is also provided with a tab 35 to facilitate removing same.

In operation with the device mounted as shown in Fig. 1, upon release of set screw 22, the handle 19 is pushed forward against the action of spring 36 sleeving the tubing 25 intermediate the bit 27 and plate 24. This move-s the bit 27 outwardly to the position of Fig. 3 and carrying with it the expandible covering 32 and cotton boot 33 in the manner shown in dotted outline in Fig. 1, thus, the syringe head 27 is projected into the operative position. To hold this position set screw 22 is tightened, whereupon the syringe liquid coursing through tube 20 is turned on exiting at 28, 29 and 30. For a thorough cleansing with the disposable cotton boot, the handle 19 may be revolved several degrees left and right as desired. The disposable boot 33 of the device thus provides repeat demand for the same during the life of the device, similar to the demand for razor blades during the life of the razor, an obvious advantage to the manufacturer.

For convenient portability of the device the adjacent ends of tubes 18, 25 and 20, 28 are detachable from each other.

While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.

Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of our invention what is claimed is:

l. A fountain syringe comprising an elongated tube open at both ends, means for mounting said tube above a toilet in a plurality of angularly adjustable positions, a second elongated tube slidable within said first tube, means for locking the position of said second tube within said first tube, a flexible tube connected to said second tube within said first tube and extending beyond said first tube, an elastic bit mounted on the end of said flexible tube, a handle and means for extending said bit outwardly of said first tube, and means for supplying liquid through said bit.

2. A fountain syringe according to claim 1, said mounting means comprising a mounting block, a suction cup on the bottom of said mounting block, a holding bracket mounted on the side of said block and means for adjusting the internal diameter of said bracket.

A fountain syringe according to claim 1, said means for supplying liquid to said bit comprising an inner tube extending through said second tube and continuing with said flexible tube and opening on the outside of said bit, said bit having auxiliary opening-s disposed at substantially right angles to the major opening receiving said tubing.

4. A fountain syringe according to claim 1, including a plate mounted on the end of said first tube, a guard mounted adjacent said plate, a rubber covering extending from between said plate and guard and secured to said bit and a fabric covering surrounding said rubber covering.

5. A fountain syringe according to claim 4, said fabric covering having expandible openings at each end and a tab connected to one end thereof whereby to permit its easy and ready disposal after using the device and its replacement by a clean boot.

6. A syringe bit which is both elastic and flexible, a handle and means for extending said elastic and flexible syringe bit forward, said syringe bit having a flexible coiled spring inner tube, a coiled expandible spring sleeving said flexible coiled inner tube, a bit on the end of said flexible inner tube and said expandible spring, a Water tight covering over said syringe bit, and a flexible water supply tube extending lengthwise through said inner flexible tube with water exit opening at end of said bit.
