Description
` J. G. PERRY Sausage Machine.
No. 27,565. Patented March 20,v 1860.
UNITED TATEG PTENT GFFTCE.
JOHN G. PERRY, OF SOUTH KINGSTOXVN, RHODE ISLAND.
MACHINE FOR FILLING SAUSAGES.
Specfieation of Letters Patent No. 27,565, dated March 20, 1860.
To all who'm, tt may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN G. PERRY, of South Kingstown, in the county of Washington, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and Improved Machine for Filling Sausages; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and correct clescription thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, similar letters referring to like parts in all the figures.
In these drawings Figure 1 is a perspective View of the machine. Fig. 2 shows the same open. Fig. 3 a cross section of the Wheels. Fig. :Je shows the pipe on which one of the wheels turns, with the tube to hold the cases.
To ccnstruct my improved machine proceed as follows: The case A, may be made of metal or wood, and to facilitate the removal of the inside parts when it may be necessary, it is made with an upper, and lower part, being divided horizontally in a line through the Centers of the wheels, and shafts, leaving a part of their journals in each part of the case. In this case A, are put the gear Wheel or roller and the wheel D, one of which O is fast on the sliaft E, by which it is turned by meansI of the crank F. The other wheel D, is made hollow, and revolycs upon the pipe G, which is held fast in the case so that it cannot turn. The teeth of wheel O, may be made Very much in the shape of the teeth of cogged wheels in general, but the wheel D, has its teeth made with concave sides instead of the usual convex form, the object of which will be made apparent hereafter, though this concayity is not positively necessary, but causes the machine to operate much more efficiently. The spaces between the teeth of wheel D, are cut through into the hollow, so that any substance carried in between the teeth of the two wheels, can pass through the opening at the bottom of the teeth into the hollow of D. The pipe G, upon which the wheel D turns, has a slot, or space, I made through the side, toward O, nearl its whole length,
to allow the meat that is oreed by the wheel O, into the hollow of D, to enter the pipe G which has at outer end, a tube or nozzle O fitted, to hold the cases to receive the meat; the other' end of the pipe is closed by the side of the case A. That the case may be opened readily, the upper and lower parts are hinged together at one end, and fastened at the other by a catch.
The operation of the machine is as follows: Motion being given to the wheels by means of the crank with one hand, the meat is fed into the hopper B, with the other, and is gathered toward the middle of the hopper by the action of the wheels, and carried in between them, being pressed by the wheel C, into the Vacancies between the teeth of D, and as the teeth enter those Vacancies, the meat is forced through the spaces at the bottom of the vacancies, into the pipe G, one end of which being closed, it is obliged to come out at the other, through the tube O into the cases. It will be seen by reference to Fig. 3, that as tooth ;5: enters space it, the Curved face of the upper side of the space, enables the tooth to sweep all the meat in the space, into the pipe G without allowing it any chance to escape back into the hopper. As the teeth pass below the level of the centers of the wheels, and begin to draw out of the spaces, the meat cannot follow them back, as the opening at the bottom of the space, has by'this time moved over a portion of the pipe G, and is thereby closed. The pipe is held in position, so that the slot or opening I shall be in the right place with regard to the gear wheels, and cannot turn when the case is shut.
Having thus described my machine, what I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the gear wheel or roller, C, and the wheel D, with the pipe G, Substantially as and for the purposes herein described.
JOHN G. PERRY.
