Description

1953 E. c. GRIESBACH 2,638,773
: DOOR KEY FASTENER Filed 001;. 25, 1951 Patented May 19, 1953 UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention provides a very convenient and inexpensive, easily installed and effective attachment for securing the lock-actuating key of a door in door-locked position, while preventing the key from being turned from the outside of the door, or pushed from the keyhole to make possible the insertion of another key or a pick.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawing is a fractional perspective of an inner side of a door depicting the key fastener applied.
Figure 2 is a partial elevation of an inner side of a door showing the fastener applied.
Figure 3 is a pin or bolt which comprises a part of the present invention.
Figure 4 is a spring-steel fastener which is the novel feature of the invention.
In the drawing, the numeral 5 designates a part of a door and 6 has reference to a part of a frame carrying the usual keeper 1 for the dead bolt 8 of the door lock, said bolt being horizontally moveable by means of the usual bit 9 on one end of the key shank I9. ll illustrates a keyhole in an escutcheon plate l2, through which the key is inserted and removed, 13 shows one of the com-- monly used door knobs.
A flat spring-steel fastener or clasp M which may have a thickness of about .015 of an inch is provided and is to be tightly secured at one end to the escutcheon plate with the use of the usual lower escutcheon plate Woodscrew 19 which is drawn through the hole 18 in a manner so as to permit said fastener to be sprung upward and away from the door. A bolt or pin is provided with a diameter less than the diameter of the hole H in the said spring-steel fastener and having a length sufficient to pass through the bow of the key l6 and the aperture 11 when the said fastener is sprung to suiiiciently align the bow l5 and aperture l1.
When the pin is inserted in the manner as above described the spring-ssteel fastener provides a means of tightly constraining the pin so as to prevent the possibility of picking the lock or device.
Excellent and convenient results are obtainable from the details disclosed, and they are preferably used, small variations may of course be made, within the scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. A device for holding a lock-actuating key of a door in door-locked position with the use of a bolt having sufiicient length for passage through the bow of the key and connect with a means secured. on the door at a lateral point relative to the shank of the key, comprising the following improvement: said means secured on the door being a spring fastener having an aperture sufficiently large to permit passage of said bolt therethrough and the fastener being so disposed that when adequately sprung away from the door the aperture will permit passage of the bolt therethrough and constrain the bolt by spring action.
2. In combination with a pin arranged through the bow of a lock-actuating key of a door for holding the key in door-locked position, a spring clasper having an aperture with sufiicient diameter for passage of the pin therethrough being secured to the door at a lateral point relative to the shank of the key in a manner so when adequately sprung away from the door the aperture will permit passage of the pin therethrough and constrain the pin by spring action.
