App Iication Marc'h'Q, 1951, Serial 110,214,674 '1 This invention relates to bath showers used particularly in combination with bath tubs in bath-rooms, and in particular an attachment adaptedtobe clamped over a water faucet or combination outlet fitting whereby an'upwardly extended pipe or tube with a Spray nozzle on the upper end is supported from a faucet or fittin to holdthe shower head with one hand and where rigid tubing or pipes are used the services of a plumber are required to install the shower. Furthermore where straight pipes are connected to the water or faucet spouts with U-shape flexible tubes it is almost impossible to maintain the vertical tube in an upright position. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a shower attachment that may readily be fitted over the outlet spout or fitting through which water is supplied to a bath tub or the like whereby a shower head is suspended in an elevated position so that it may be used with the same convenience as a permanently installed shower.

The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide means for temporarily installing a shower attachment on an outlet spout or fitting of a bath tub or the like whereby a spray head may be supported from the fitting.

Another object of the invention is to provide a shower attachment of the rigid type that may readily be installed by the average layman.

A further object of the invention is to provide a portable shower attachment that may be installed on fittings now in use, which is of a simple and economical construction.

With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies a vertically disposed tube having a U-shape lower end with a threaded boss spaced from the lower end and a support having a threaded ring adapted to be threaded on the threaded boss of the tube and having an open ring and thumb screws radially disposed therein on the opposite end whereby with the said open ring secured by the thumb screws on the outlet spout of a plumbing fitting a shower head carried by the upper end of the tube is rigidly supported from the fitting and may also be supplied with water from the fitting,

Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts the improved shower attachment of this invention includes a tube l0 having a U-shape section I I at the lower end with a threaded boss l2 spaced from the lower end and with a similar boss l3 providing means for attaching a shower head M on the upper end.

The tube 10 is supported on an outlet spout l5 by a bracket [6, one end of which is provided with an internally threaded ring I! and the opposite end of which is provided with a ring I8 in which a. plurality of radially disposed thumb screws l9 are threaded.

The supporting bracket may be formed as illustrated in Figure 1 wherein the ring I8 is positioned in a plane perpendicular to a plane extended through the ring I1, or the rings may be positioned in the same plane, as illustrated in Figure 5 wherein a bracket 20 is provided with an internally threaded ring 2| that is threaded on the boss l2 of the tube I0 and an open ring 22, that is provided with radially disosed thumb screws 23, as illustrated in Figure The brackets l6 and 20 are similar, both having I threaded rings on the outer ends and open rings on the opposite ends and in the bracket 16 the open ring is positioned with the axis thereof perpendicular to the threaded ring whereas with the bracket 20 the axis of the open ring is parallel to the axis of the threaded ring.

With the parts formed in this manner the open ring of the bracket is placed over the outlet spout of a water faucet or fitting and with the threaded boss of the tube In threaded in the threaded ring on the outer end of the bracket the open leg of the U-shapelower end of the tube is positioned to receive water from at faucet or outlet spout.

In the design shown in Figure 1 the spout I5 is provided with a flexible coupling member 24 one end of which fits snugly over the outer end of the spout and the opposite end over the open end of the U-shape section of the tube.

In the design illustrated in Figure 5 a flexible tubular coupling 25 connects the end of a faucet 26 to the upwardly extended open end of the U- shape section of the tube l 0.

By this means the open ring of one of the brackets is placed over the end of a faucet or spout and secured in position by the thumb screws whereby with the threaded ring on the outer end :of the bracket threaded on the boss i=2 of the tube It the tube in is rigidly supported in the upwardly extended position .as .illustrated inF-igure 1. The iiexible'coupl-ingpmember is then .placed over the adjoining ends of the tube and faucet or fitting and when the water is turned on, water is 'carried upwardly through the tube to to the spray head.

With the tube [0 for supporting the shower head having the integral U shaped section aon the lower end it is possible to rig-idly support the tube and :shower head, as the threaded end of the bracket provides a positive connection between the bracket :and tube at \a point spaced from the end of "the tube, and with the end of the U-section held by the coupling member two points of 'suspension are provided whereby the 4 overhung load of the spray is counteracted and the device rigidly supported.

The device may, therefore, be readily attached and also readily removed and may also be used on a different bath tube or in a different bathroom.

The device is designed to be used with the person in a sitting down position in the tub which keeps the water confined to an area where it is most required, and with the shower attachment designed and supported in this manner the shower head is positioned to direct the spray of water directly into a tub so that it is not necessary to use a shower curtain.

It will be understood that other modifications may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts wtihout departing from the spirit of the invention.

What is claimed is:

A portable spray attachment comprising a vertically disposed tube having a spray .head on the :upper end, a U -shape section on the lower end and exteriorly threaded :bess spaced from the lower end, a bracket having an open rin with "radially disposed thumb screws therein on one :end and an internally threaded ring on the opposite end positioned with the internally threaded .ring threaded on the threaded boss of the tube, and a flexible coupling member carried by one end of the Li -shape section on the Flower end :of the'tube, -said bracket :adapted to support said tube on an outlet spout.
