Description
Dem 16, 1952 E. D. PAPAJOHN MEANS FOR APPLYING HAIR WAVE NEUTRALIZER FLUID T0 THE HAIR Filed Oct. 25. 1949 Patented Dec. 16, 1952 UNITED STATES bat EN? @FFICE MEANS FOR APPLYING HAIR WAVE NEUTRALIZER FLUID TO THE HAIR 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a means for applying hair wave neutralizer fluid to the hair.
It is an object of the present invention to provide means for applying hair wave neutralizer to the hair which has a nozzle shape to be easily passed over the surface of the curl or lock of hair so as to distribute fully over one side of the curl the neutralizer fluid and wherein the control of the fluid which is being distributed is had by the hand upon the fluid bulb and to eliminate the need of handling the fluid with the hands while applying it to the hair.
It is another object of the present invention to lessen the number of movements of the operator in applying neutralizing fluid to the hair and wherein it is possible for the individual himself to apply the fluid to the hair without the need of an operator.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide means for applying hair Wave neutralizer fluid to the hair which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to handle, of pleasing appearance, has a minimum number of parts, safe to use, compact and eiflcient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing in which Fig. l is a perspective View of the hair applying means embodying the features of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the hair applying means.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the hair applying means in use upon hair curled on a standard curler.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the hair applying means in use on hair curled in pin curls.
Referring now to the figures, H! represents a tube preferably of transparent material having a downwardly inclined outlet end ll of arcuate section whereby the fluid can be dispensed over a hair curl of rounded shape. The depending portion ll not only is inclined, but it is flared to provide for a wide outer end [2.
On the opposite end of the tube or spout I0 is a flexible bulb l3 of rubber or pliable material adapted to receive a volume of the liquid as the bulb is squeezed and allowed to expand. As the bulb is squeezed with the liquid therein, this liquid will be delivered through the spout II]. By having the end of the spout depending downwardly,
the hand position when squeezing the bulb need not be made uncomfortable and accordingly the individual can apply the neutralizing fluid without assistance.
It will be seen that this means of applying neutralizing fluid has advantages over the old Way of doing the same with a cotton pad which was very messy, cumbersome and does not saturate the hair well and uniformly and lint from the cotton would get into the hair. With the present device, it is easier for persons to wave their own hair and to apply uniformly and well the neutralizing fluid which is essential to make a good permanent wave. It is no longer a messy job and is a much more speedy operation. The applying means will hold more fluid than the cotton pad and it is not required to dip the same into the fluid as often as with the cotton pad.
The tip end of the spout is flattened and curved into a semi-circle leaving an opening of oneeighth of an inch in width and about one inch long. The flattened end is placed over the curl and by the squeezing of the rubber bulb gently, the neutralizing liquid will be distributed across and along the curl.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A means for applying hair wave neutralizer fluid to the hair comprising a tube having a downwardly flared flattened end portion of curved section to dispense an arcuate stream of fluid and a bulb of flexible material connected to the opposite end of the tube, said downwardly flared end portion having top and bottom bends, defining a passage at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis of the tube, the bottom bend being in advance of the top bend, the flattened end portion being downwardly offset with respect to the main part of the tube.
