This invention relates to improvements in appliances for removing dandruff, etc.

The primary object of this invention is the provision of a vacuum type comb to facilitate removal of dandruff.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following detailed description.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved appliance.

Figure 2 is a cross sectional view of one end of the appliance, taken substantially on the line 2--2 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a cross sectional view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.

In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown only a preferred embodiment of the invention, the letter A may generally designate the appliance. It consists of a back or body portion B having the dandruff removing teeth connected therewith, and means D thru which the comb may be attached, as an appliance, to some vacuum pumping apparatus.

The body portion B and teeth C maybe of plastic or any approved material and molded integral, 01' the teeth may be attached in any approved manner to the body portion. In the case of plastic material this may be done thru the use of solvent. 7

The body portion B comprises an elongated receptacle-shaped back portion 0 having a top wall I I, downwardly convergent side walls l2 and I3, a front end wall M and a wall l provided with a tubular extension I! to which the means D is connected. This may be accomplished in various ways. As shown, a knurled clampin nut 20 is provided for clamping a flange 2| of the flexible tube 22 against the washer 23; the nut being screw threaded upon the shank H, as shown in Figure 2.

The teeth C comprise relatively wide but thin upper body portions 30. The lower ends taper thru convergence of the lower side surfaces 3| to points 34. Each tooth is upwardly recessed at 35, at its lower end; the sides of the recess sloping directly to provide the sharp skin touching points 34, as shown in Figure 3. These sharp points constitute the extreme ends of each tooth. The back of the comb provides a compartment 36 which has communication by means of ducts or passageways 31 and 38 to the recess 35, spaced from the points 34.

2 Any number of teeth C may be provided along the lower part of the comb body portion B, but

it is thought that not very many will be needed for the purpose for which the comb or appliance is intended, since they will ordinarily be larger than the conventional comb teeth.

In use, the flexible tube 22 may be provided with a connector piece 38 which may be attached to a vacuum pump in any approved manner. Of course the partial vacuum created in the compartment 35 will draw the dandruff, scale and other foreign matter from the skin of the user thru the ducts 31 and 38 into the compartment 36. There will be a continuous passage of air thru the ducts because they will not be obstructed as the teeth ride over the skin of the user. The recess 35 is guarded since the points 34 will touch the skin of the wearer and loosen and dislodge dandruff for easy access to the recess 35 and therefrom into the ducts which face and open into each of the recesses.

Various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be made to the form of the invention herein shown and described without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the following claims.

I claim:

1. In a dandruff removing appliance the combination of an elongated body portion having a compartment therealong wherein a vacuum is adapted to be produced, and a plurality of teeth connected upon the body portion extending transversely thereto, each of said teeth being provided at its free ends with a, plurality of relatively spaced projections and an unobstructed recess therebetween and each tooth having a plurality of ducts extending therethru communicating with the compartment of the body portion and opening into the recess of the tooth adjacent to the respective projections thereof.

In a dandruif removing appliance the combination of an elongated body portion having a compartment therealong wherein a vacuum is adapted to be produced, and a plurality of teeth connected upon the body portion and extending laterally therefrom, each of said teeth bein provided at the free end thereof with a plurality of relatively sharp projections between which is an inverted U-shaped recess extending upwardly into the tooth an appreciable distance, each of said teeth having a pair of ducts leading therethru from said compartment and communicating with the recess at each side of the recess between the apex of the U-shaped recess and the respective points.

In a dandrufi removing appliance the com bination of a body portion having a compartment therein wherein a vacuum is adapted to be produced, and teeth connected upon the body portion and extending laterally therefrom, each of said teeth being individually formed to provide at the extreme free end thereof an endwise opening recess extending longitudinally upward into the tooth and the side surfaces of which recess extend into intersection with the outer side'surfaces of the tooth to define sharp skin touching points constituting the extreme tip end portions of the tooth measured longitudinally of the tooth, each tooth having duct means extending from said compartment directly into the recess of this tooth above said extreme sharp points.
