4.42 JM mg Patented July 6, 1954 UTILETY PAIL HOLDER Louis M. Sumen and Stephen Sumen, Jr., Cleveland, IOhio Application January 14, 1953, Serial No. 331,152
3 Claims.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in pail and bucket, or the like, holders.
It is a fact well known to those who use pails, or buckets holding soapy or other cleaning liquid solutions, and particularly those persons engaged in using such pails or buckets in outside work, such as window washers, who must set such pail, or bucket, on the ground, or other surface, in the snow, etc., while they are going about their work, hence, one of the principal objects of this invention is to provide a holder which will securely hold such pail, or the like, above and out of the snow, etc., on the surface upon which they are at work.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device as is described herein that will hold a pail, or the like, in a position elevated above the supporting surface so as to relieve the user of same of considerable bending over usually required when using brushes or the like with the solution inr such pails or the like.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a holder as described to be made of a light weight material so as to render convenient the carrying of a pail, secured therein, from place to place without removing such pail from the device.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a holder, or device that may be used if desired with the leg members folded upward along the body without removing the pail therefrom.
A still further object of the invention is to provide such a device as described that is simple in structure, convenient for the uses specified and at a cost that will make it available to any person desiring same.
Other objects attainable by the invention will be readily observed from a reading of the description in conjunction with a reference to the associated drawings, in which:
Figure l is a perspective View in elevation of the invention.
Figure 2 is a View of a section of the invention, namely a depending arm with a leg member attached thereto.
Figure 3 is a view of a section of a pail and the band of the invention with a leg folded in an upwardly vertical position as indicated.
Figure 4 shows a threaded bolt inserted through the band and having an inside head of resilient material.
Describing the drawings in detail:
The complete invention is designated by the numeral I0, which consists of a flat circular band I I, having its width extending vertically, a number of depending arms I3 affixed on the outer surface of the band II, and each of Said arms having attached thereto, midway of its length, a depending leg I4 by means of a hinge I5 and an element IEA. An open spring clamping means It is affixed on the outer surface of each of the arms I3 adjacent the upper end thereof and a like clamping means aiiiXed to its outer surface adjacent the lower end thereof. Azxed on the outer surface of the upper portion of each of the legs I4 is a lug Il adapted to engage in the spring clamp means it when such leg is folded upward in a Vertical position as indicated by 20, and securely hold such leg in suchqposition., Each of the legs It also have a lug 2| affixed on its inner surface opposite to the lug II and adapted to engage in the spring clamp means 22 when the leg is extended downwardly into a vertical position as a means to support the band and arms and a pail, or the like, when placed within the device. Each of the legs is flared slightly outwardly in its lower portion to provide a better supporting means and provided with a removable foot I4A of resilient material. Each of the arms I3 has its lower end portion terminating in a hook-like form I8 adapted to receive the bottom rim of a pail, or the like, placed within the device. The
. band II is provided with a radially extended threaded bolt I2 positioned midway between each two of the said arms, such bolts being provided with a head I2A of rubber, or the like, and said bolts being threadably adjustable in said band I I to bear against the outer surface of a pail I9, or the like, by manual operation of such bolts when such pail is placed within the device as shown.
It will be understood from the description and drawings that in the use of the invention in its erected position as shown in Figure 1, a pail, or the like, is placed within the device with the bottom rim engaging in the hook-like ends I'8 and the bolts I2 adjusted until the heads I 2A bear against the surface of the pail, thus securely holding it within the device so that the pail and holder may be safely lifted with the bail of the pail and carried from place to place.
When not in use the device may be folded by releasing the legs from the spring clamp 22 and folding them upwardly into the position shown by 20 and engaging the lug Il in the spring clamp means I6 to hold such leg securely in such position. With the legs extended downwardly in a vertical position as shown in Figure l, the lug 2l engages in the spring clamp means 22 to hold the legs in a secure supporting positiona It will be an advantage in the use of the invention to have same constructed of a light-weight material such as aluminum, or similar weight material.
It will be observed from the description and drawings that we have invented a new and useful, as well as a convenient device for the purposes and uses specied and one which may be readily constructed by any one familiar with the art.
While we have shown and described our invention in a desired form and structure, minor changes may be found necessary to bel made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A holder for pails, or the like, comprising a flat circular band having its width positioned vertically, a number of arms. having their upper end portions afiixed to the outside surface of said band in equally spaced relation to each other and depending therefrom, each of said arms having' its lower end portion turned inwardly and upwardly in a hook-like form adapted tol receive the bottom rim of a pail or the like, a leg member hingedly attached to the outside surface of each of said arms midway the length thereof, means for securely holding said leg members in a downwardly extending vertical position as a supporting means for the attached structure, means for holding and maintaining said leg members in an upwardly extended folded position, and means for removably holding a-pail or the like within the said band and arms.
2. A holder for pails, or the like, as described in claim 1, said rst mentioned holding means including an opening spring clamp ailiXed to the outside surface of each of said arms adjacent the said hook-like formed end, and a lug aixed to the inner surface of said leg member in opposite relation to said spring clamp and receivable therein when said leg member is positioned in its downwardly extending vertical position.
3. A holder for pails, and the like, as described in claim 2, said second mentioned means includ- `ing an open spring clamp affixed to the outside surface of the upper end portion of each of said arms, and a lug aiiixed to the outer surface of said vleg member in opposite relation tolsaid second Ymentioned spring clamp and receivable in the saidsecond mentioned spring clamp when said leg member is released from the said first mentioned spring clamp and folded into an upwardly extending vertical position parallel with and in a position adjacent to said arm.
