This invention relates to a display box.

In the loading of boxes usually considerable time in consumed by manual operations and it is difiicult to provide a box which may be loaded by a machine.

One of the objects of this invention is to provide a display box which is so constructed that it may be easily loaded by machine.

Another object of this invention is to provide a construction which after loading may be closed in a very simple manner.

Another object of this invention is to provide a two-part box which in its loading position, the parts will be adjacent the position which they will assume when the box is closed.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings:

Figure 1 is a perspective View of the box in its loading position with an article shown in dotted lines in the box;

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view showing the box in closed position with an article shown in dotted lines in the box; and

Figure 3 is an exploded view of the two parts of the box completely separated.

In proceeding with this invention, I provide a box of two sections, which sections will slidingly flt together. The lower section has essentially a bottom wall and two end walls and preferably opposite sides of short height, while the second section has a bottom wall with transparent top and side walls and an end flange which will hook over the end walls of the first section to support the second section in an inclined position for machine-operated loading, the arrangement being such that after loading, the section may be lifted, slightly slid further into the first section and dropped into position. The top and side walls are transparent for exposing the article contained within the box.

With reference to the drawings, I have provided two sections, the first section being designated generally 11) and the second section being designated generally I 1, these sections being shown in Figure 3 separated.

The first section comprises a bottom wall 12, end walls 13-13 and side walls I l-14 which throughout the major portion of their length are of a height from the bottom wall 12 less than the height of the end walls 13, the proportion being about one-third of the height. By this arrangement the end walls are given a rigid support and well tied together.

The second section comprises a bottom wall 15 having end flanges 16-16 and side flanges 1'11'1 downwardly extending or depending from the bottom wall 15. A single sheet of transparent material is folded along crease lines 18 and 19 to provide a top wall 20 and opposite side walls 21-21 which extend downwardly from the top wall and are secured to the flanges 111'1 by staples 22, leaving the ends of the second section open. The second section is of a length to closely fit within or telescope into and between the end walls 13-13 so that the open ends of the second section are thereby closed while it is of a width to closely fit within the reduced height side wall portions 14 and conceal the flanges 1'1-1'1 of the second section.

For loading the box the second section is lifted at one end and the flange 16 of this second section is hooked over the end wall 13 of the first section, as shown in Figure 1. The flanges 1'1-1'| of the sides stop short of the flange 16 so as to provide a sufficient space to permit this hooking over. Likewise, the edges of the side walls 21 are tapered as at 23 so as not to interfere with the hooking over of this flange. When the second section is in this position, it may be mechanically loaded by slipping some article within the container, such as a brush 25 shown in dotted lines in Figures 1 and 2. After this loading has been performed, the second section may be lifted and dropped into the first section to assume the position shown in Figure 2, the box thus becoming completely closed in this manner after loadin I claim:

1. A display box comprising two sections, a first section having bottom and end walls, a second section having a bottom, top and side walls with open ends through which merchandise may be passed, said second section being of a length to closely fit between said end walls and of a width closely approximating the width of the bottom wall of the first section and a downwardly extending flange at the end of the bottom wall of the second section having its ends free to hook over the end wall of the first section and support the first section in an inclined position.

2. A display box as in claim 1 wherein there is a downwardly extending flange on the sides of the bottom wall of the second section.

3. A display box as in claim 1 wherein there is a downwardly extending flange on the sides of the bottom wall of the second section with the side walls secured to the flange.

4. A display box as in claim 1 wherein the top and side walls are transparent.

5. A display box comprising two sections, a first section having bottom and end walls with side walls extending between said end walls and of a height less than the end walls, a second section having a bottom, top and side Walls with open ends throughwhichmerchandise may be passed, said secondsectionbeing of a length to closely fit between said end walls and of a width closely approximating the width of the bottom wall of l the first section and closely fitting between said side walls and a downwardly extending flange at' the end of the bottom wall of the second section 6. sides of the bottom of the second section of a height less than the side walls of the first section.

A display box as in claim 2 wherein there is a downwardly extending flange on the opposite sides of the bottom of the second section of a height less than the side walls of the first section with .the side walls secured to the, flange.
