Application January '7, 1952, Serial No. 265,332
1 Claim. (Ci. 223--10'7) to holding, carrying, and storage cases for retaining, in segregated relation, strands of yarn or strips of material adapted to be used for making hooked rugs and the like, and in particular a case having a closure with a filler including a plurality of spaced vertically disposed partitions having staggered notches in the upper edges and hinged to a mounting plate removably positioned in one end of the case.
The purpose of this invention is to provide means for retaining bunches of strands or strips of material of different colors and of difierent shades of the same colors in spaced relation whereby each color and each shade of each color is continuously displayed and wherein strands or strips of the diiierent shades and colors are independently removable for use.
Various types of spools and other devices have been provided for retaining yarns of different This invention relates colors for weaving and other purposes, however,
for some uses, such as in making hooked rugs it is desirable to provide the yarn or strips of material in short lengths and it is difficult to retain these short lengths in segregated relation and at the same time with all shades thereof displayed. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a plurality of spaced partitions hinged to a mounting plate and having staggered notches in the upper edges and a case having a hinged cover in which the partitions with the mounting plate positioned at one end thereof may be inserted so that bunches of yarn or the like positioned in the notches in the upper edges of the partitions are readily displayed and are also readily accessible.
The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide means for forming a display cabinet or case wherein bunches of strands of yarn or strips of material of different colors and of various shades of the colors are displayed for use and are retained in segregated relation during use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a carrying case and dispenser for strands of yarn and strips of material in which the device is designed to accommodate yarn and strips of material in conventional forms.
A further object of the invention is to provide a carrying case and dispenser for holding short pieces of material used in making hooked rugs and the like which is of a simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies a box like case having a base with a sloping upper edge, a cover hinged to the base at one side and retained in the of the difierent colors and closed position with a snap fastener at the opposite side and a plurality of longitudinally disposed spaced partitions with staggered notches in the upper edges and with means for hinging the partitions, at one of the ends thereof to a mounting plate positioned in one end of the case.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawings, wherein:
Figure l is a perspective view showing the material carrying case and dispenser in the open position.
igure 2 is a longitudinal section through the filler of the case illustrating the notched partitions and mounting plate and showing a rubber band extended around one of the said partitions.
Figure 3 is a sectional plan taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2 showing the strips of tape for hinging the partitions to the mounting plate.
Figure 4 is a front elevational view of the case showing the cover in the closed position and illustrating a handle mounted on the cover.
Figure 5 is a view similar to that shown in Figure 4 illustrating a modification wherein the case is provided with a shoulder strap.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts the improved material holding case of this invention includes a base having side walls l0 and A I, end walls l2 and i3 and a cover M hinged to the Wall H and provided with a fastener i5 for retaining the cover in the closed position, and the case is provided with a filler having spaced longitudinally disposed partitions l6 hinged by tapes ii to a mounting plate (8.
As illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 the partitions lo, the upper edges of which are provided with notches It, are formed of different heights to correspond with the sloping upper edges of the end walls :2 and [3 of the case. By this means the removing of strands or strips of yarn or other materials is facilitated and the difierent colors and also the different shades of the colors are conveniently displayed.
The bunches of strands of yarn or strips of material are positioned in the notches l9 and the comparatively short pieces of the material are retained in position by elastic bands 20 which are positioned over the partitions and also over the ends of strands or strips of material positioned thereon. The vertical edges of the partitions may be provided with slots 01' notches 2| and 22 through which the rubber bands extend.
The fastener I5 is mounted on a plate or tab 23 having a slot 24 therein and, with the cover I in the closed position, the tab is positioned whereby the slot receives a U-shaped member 25 on the front wall ID of the case so that the tongue of the fastener may be inserted through the member 25 to secure the case in a closed position.
As illustrated in Figure 4 the cover may be provided with a handle 26, the ends of which are secured to the cover with fasteners 27 and, as illustrated in Figure 5 the case may be provided with a shoulder strap 28, the ends of which are secured over fasteners 29.
The carrying case and dispenser of this invention may be provided with either the handle 26 or the shoulder strap 28 or both the handle and shoulder strap may be used on the case.
It will also be understood that the partitions 16 may be attached to the mounting .plate l8 by other suitable means.
It will be understood that other modifications may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim is:
A hook rug material carrying case filler comprising spaced end Walls, spaced parallel part1- tions having notches in the upper edges extended between the end walls, the upper edges of said end walls being inclined upwardly from one side of the filler and the height of the partitions being graduated accordingly, said partitions also having notches in the ends, and elastic bands positioned in the notches in the ends of the partitions and extended around the partitions for retaining strands of material in position thereon.
