The present invention relates to an article display card or stand and more particularly to a merchandise display card in which a plurality of small articles may be releasably held with a selected portion of said articles displayed for the View of a prospective purchaser.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a display card into which the articles it supports may be easily and quickly inserted and which will automatically properly position said articles in a desired display position, and permit their ready withdrawal therefrom.

It is also a primary object of the present invention to provide a display card which may be easily and inexpensively manufactured. The display card comprises only two elements, one secured to the other in an overlapping position, and since both are constituted of substantially inelastic sheet material, the process of adhering one element to the other in the proper relative position may be readily carried out.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a display card which, while constituted of substantially inelastic materials, will releasably hold the articles on display, so that they will remain in proper position even though the card is unintentionally subjected to normal abuse; yet, when a direct force is applied to the article to remove it from the card, it will slide easily from its supporting pocket.

These and other objects and advantages of the present invention will be more readily apparent from the following description and drawing of .one particular embodiment thereof. Inthe drawing:

A display card embodying the present invention comprises a front sheet II) and a backing sheet II. The front sheet Ill is preferably constituted of heavy paper or cardboard, so that it is self-supporting, while the backing sheet II is preferably constituted of a substantially lightweight paper which is fairly stiff.

vided with a plurality of U-shaped slits I3 which form flaps I4. On both sides of the center portion I2 are the supporting Wings I5. The supporting wings I5 are separated from the center portion I2 by score lines I6 and a top member I8 is separated from the center member I2 by score line I9. The score line I9 is interrupted by U-shaped slit 20 to provide a tab 2I. This construction breaks the regularity of the shape of the center portion I2 and provides an eye catching location on tab 2I for advertising matter when the display card is assembled. The display card is made into a self-supporting unit folding the side wings I5 backwardly into the plane of the drawing along the score lines I 6, until they are perpendicular to the plane of the center portion I2, and folding the top member I8 downwardly into the plane of the drawing along score line I9. The tabs 23 on top member I8 will then be in a position to be inserted into slots 24 in side Wings I 5 and an erect, self-supporting display card is formed. The top member I8 is scored along line 25 so that the outer portion 26 of the top member I8 may be folded downwardly to add rigidity to this portion of the card.

Top member I8 is also provided with a U- shaped slit 2l. The flap 28, formed by the slit 21, may then be used for hanging the display card on a wall by inserting a nail or similar member into aperture 29 after the fia-p 28 has been folded upwardly into a position parallel to the center portion I2.

The backing sheet I I is cut, as illustrated in A plurality of tabs 3| are formed by a series of U-shaped slits 32, each tab 3I being independent of the adjacent tabs and free to fold downwardly along the base thereof. A bow-like slit 33 forms a secondary tab 34 within each primary tab 3 I.

The stippling on the backing sheet as shown in Fig. 2 indicates the presence of an adhesive which is used to secure the backing sheet in position on the back of the front sheet I0. As can be best seen in Fig. 5, the tabs 3| in the backing sheet II are slightly higher and wider than the flaps I4 in the front sheet I 0. When the backing sheet I I is secured to the front sheet Ill the tabs 3l Vare positioned with their vertical center line substantially coextensive with the vertical center line of flaps I4 and with the upper edge of the ap 3l substantially in line with the base of flaps I4. This brings the base of tabs 3| slightly below the lower edge of flaps III.

A single article A has been placed in position in shown in Fig. 1. The center portion l2 is pro- 55 one of the pockets illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4 and in its position relative to the display card can be best appreciated from Fig. 5.

In order to insert the article A into the pockets in the card a person need only grasp the article at its upper point and press it against one of the aps I4. The ap I4 will bend backwardly a slight amount permitting article A to move into the aperture 'formed by the slit I3. The base of the article A will strike tab 3l, causing it to bend outwardly into the position shown in Fig. 5. The article A will then be releasably yet iirmly held by the display card, the natural resiliency of the paper or cardboard holding it in position. The tab 3i will support the article A from below, while the flap I4 holds it in position against edge 35 formed by slit I3.

It should be noted that the article A will be firmly supported by the display card yet substantially the entire portion thereof, that is the portion from its top edge down to the edge 35 formed by slit I3, will be visible to any prospective purchaser.

It the article A were regular in shape, there would be no necessity to provide the secondary tab 34; in the particular embodiment illustrated, however, the article A has a small projection P, and it was therefore necessary to provide a secondary tab 34 in order to prevent the primary tab 3| from being bent outwardly at too great an angle.

It should also be noted that the lower edges 36 `of the side wings I5 slant slightly upwardly. Because of this when the stand is placed in the erected position with the side wings I5 folded back, the center portion I2 will be inclined in slightly and will slant backwardly. This is done so that the articles A will be in a substantially exact vertical position since, as can be noted from Fig. 5, they are held by the flaps Id in a for- Wardly leaning position, and it is necessary to slant the center portion I2 of the card backwardly a small amount to bring them into the vertical position.

As will be noted from Fig. 5, the tab 34 has imparted to the bottom portion thereof, a slight curvature, so that such tab curls upwardly to form a pocket -or seat for the bottom of the projection P of the article A. Such curling is effected by the template used for inserting the articles into the display card and results in facilitating the packing as well as holding the articles more firmly and effectively.

I claim:

1. A display card comprising a front sheet and a backing sheet, said front sheet having a plurality of U-shaped slits therein, said slits forming a. plurality of flaps, said backing sheet having a plurality of U-shaped slits therein forming a plurality of tabs, said last mentioned U-shaped slits in the backing sheet having the open end thereof opposite to the open end of said U-shaped slits in the front sheet, said iaps overlying said tabs.

2. A display card as claimed in claim 1 wherein said tabs are larger than said flaps and Wherein the free ends of said iiaps are located substantially above the lower edges of said tabs.

3. A display card comprising a iront sheet and a backing sheet, said front sheet having a plurality of slits therein, said slits forming flaps, the lower end of said ilaps being the free end thereof, said backing sheetV having a plurality of slits therein forming tabs, the upper end of said tabs being the free end thereof, said tabs overlying said flaps.

4. A display card as claimed in claim 3 wherein said tabs are larger than said flaps and wherein the free end of each of said flaps is located above the lower end of each of said tabs.

5. A'display card as claimed in claim 1 wherein each of said tabs has a slit therein forming a secondary tab within said rst mentioned tab with the free end of said secondary tab positioned above the lower edge of said rst mentioned tab.

6. A display card as claimed in claim 1, wherein said tabs have their bottom portions curled upwardly.

A display card as claimed in claim 1 Wherein each of said tabs has a slit therein forming a secondary tab within said first mentioned tab with the free end of said secondary tab positioned above the lower edge of said first mentioned tab, said secondary tabs having their bottom portions curled upwardly.
