TENSION coucmor. DEVICE FOR LOOMS OR THE LIKE Filed Nov.. 29, 1948 FIQ, I
INVENTORS CHRISTIAN CHRISTIANSEN, GUSTAV OTTO KARL R BYMZ;
ATTO NEYS Patented July 21, 1953 UNITED STATES PATENT TENSION CONTROL DEVICE FOR LOOMS OR THE LIKE Christian Christiansen, Oslo, and Gustav Otto Karl Riisch, Mandal, Norway Application November 29, 1948, Serial No. 62,514 In Norway October 18, 1947 3 Claims. 1
The present invention relates to a device for controlling and respectively adjusting oi the tension of threads or yarns, especially in spinning machines, twisting machines, looms and the like. The device is especially suitable for the controlling of the tension of the weft thread or yarn in a circular loom for weaving of tubes or hoses of the kind in which the weaving is effected at the upper edge of a weaving ring over which the warp threads are passed, the weft threads or yarns being pressed in between the Warp threads by means of pressing members, so-called sectors, rotating above the edge of the said weaving ring.
The device according to the invention essentially comprises a cylindrical rod and guiding means guiding the thread to and from the rod at points situated at some distance one from the other, so that the thread can slide along the rod in any desired number of helical windings, whereby the brake effect on the thread by its friction against the rod may be adjusted by varying the number of windings.
Further features of the invention are described here below under reference to the drawing which illustrates a device used for controlling the tension of the Weft threadin a circular loom of the kind mentioned above. Figure 1 shows the device looking from above and Figure 2 the device looking from the side against the rear side of the sector carrier of the loom.
In the drawing I is the sector carrier with the sector 2 which serves for pressing the weft thread coming from the tension controlling device in between the warp threads. 3 is the weaving ring or caliber at the upper edge of which the weaving takes place. The tension controlling device according to the invention comprises the cylindrical rod t to which the weft thread 5 is passed from the last of a number of guiding pins 6 in usual way provided on the sector carrier, and from which rod the weft thread is passed over the guide l, through an aperture 8 in the sector carrier and to the weaving point. The brake effect and thereby the tension of the thread is, as mentioned above, adjusted by varying of the number of windings of the thread around the rod.
The guide I is made in the form of a member laid transversally to the rod and being well rounded at its upper side, secured to the outside of the sector carrier. This member suitably also serves as support for the outer end of the rod 4.
As shown in the drawing the rod 4 is extended beyond the guide member I so that the thread is safely guided between the side of the rod and the said member. In order to get the thread passed in right direction to the weaving point, the rod is situated so that a tangent to the rod at the point where thethread leaves the same, is approximately on a level with the plane of the sector.
We claim:
1. A circular loom comprising a weaving ring at the upper edge of which the weaving is eifected, a sector mounted on a sector carrier for rotation above the upper edge of the Weaving ring for pressing the weft thread in between the warp threads, at least one guiding pin for the Weft thread mounted on the sector carrier and a device for controlling the tension of the weft thread, characterized in that the said tension controlling device comprises .a cylindrical rod secured to the outside of the said sector carrier in the main parallel with the same and so situated relatively to the said guiding pin that the weft thread passes directly from the said guiding pin to the said rod, and guiding means leading the thread from the said rod, said guiding means being arranged at some distance from the point in which the thread is led to the said rod, the sector carrier having an aperture through which the thread is passed to the Weaving point.
2. A device for controlling the tension of the weft thread as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the said guiding means leading the weft thread from the said rod comprises a member secured to the outside of the sector carrier at a distance from the outer end of the said rod, the said member and the side of the said rod thus forming guides for the thread.
3. A device for controlling the tension of the weft thread as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the said rod is so situated that a tangent to the same at the point from where the thread is passed to the weaving point is approximately in the plane of the sector.
