Application February 27, 1951, Serial No. 212,970
1 Claim.
The present invention relates to rubber gloves and is concerned primarily with a glove which is peculiarly adapted to overhead work, while the user is working with water orother washing such occasions the water or fluid runs down the gloves and onto the wearers arms resulting great discomfort.
With the foregoing conditions in mind, the present invention has in view as its foremost objective, the provision of a rubber glove which is provided with a ring or gauntlet of absorbent material at the free edge of the wrist portion of the glove. take up any water which runs down the glove when the latter is upraised.
More in detail the invention has as an object the provision of a rubber glove of the character above indicated in which the ring takes the form of sponge rubber which may be vulcanized or otherwise secured to the glove.
Various other more detailed objects and advantages of the invention such as arise in connection with carrying out the above noted ideas in a practical embodiment will, in part become apparent, and in part be hereinafter stated as the description of the invention proceeds.
The invention, therefore,.'comprises a rubber This absorbent ring will absorb r 2 free edge thereof and preferably on both the inner and outer sides is a ring of sponge rubber i2. The anchorage of the ring 12 to the wrist portion l I may be achieved in any preferred manner such as by using an appropriate adhesive or by vulcanization.
Under normal conditions of uses such as when the hands of the wearer are in a depressed condition the ring [2 does not perform any function other than perhaps providing a good gripping engagement with the wrist of the wearer. However, when the gloves are in an upraised or overhead position any water or other liquid running down the glove will be absorbed by the rubber ring. This ring has a fairly large capacity and after it has become saturated it may be squeezed glove having a ring of absorbent material such as sponge rubber secured to the free edge thereof. For a full and more complete understanding of the invention, reference maybe had to the designs illustrated and described because various.
modifications of these details may be provided in putting the invention into practice within the purview of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A rubber glove having a tubular wrist portion terminating in a free edge, and a ring of sponge rubber overlying said free edge and covering the inner and outer surfaces of said wrist portion adjacent to said. free edge.
ELIZABETH LA ROSA.
