Description

Nov. 7, 1950 R. E. KRUCK APPLICATOR FOR ROUGE AND THE LIKE Filed Oct. 17, 1946 Patented Nov. 7, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE APPLICATOR FOR ROUGE AND THE LIKE Ralph E. Kruck, Springfield, Mass. Application ()ctober 17, 1946, Serial No. 703,738
This invention relates to improvements inapplicator devices for lip rouge and the like and holders therefor.
The principal objects of the invention are the provision of an applicator device for lip rouge and the like and a holder therefor.
According to novel features of the invention, a holder is provided which in a general way includes a pair of relatively hinged members adapted to swing between closed and open positions whereby, when in closed position, they enclose an object, such as a lip rouge applicator device or the like while, when in an open position, the device is supported for use.
With the foregoing and various other novel features and advantages and other objects of my invention as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claim hereunto annexed and more fully described and referred to in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a holder embodying the novel features of the invention and with the swingable members thereof in closed position;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the holder shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a front elevational View of the holder shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3 with the parts in a different position;
Fig. 5 is a side elevational view of the applicator tip;
Fig. 6 is a front elevational view of the applicator tip shown in. Fig. 5;
Fig. '7 is an en arged perspective view of the inner end of the appli ator body;
Fig. 8 is an enlarged perspective View of one of the ears of one of the holder members showing the projection extending therefrom; and
Figs. 9 and 10 are enlarged perspective views of the outer end portions of the holder members.
Referring now to the drawings more in detail, the invention will be fully described.
A pair of holder members 2 and i are provided which are slotted at 9 and 9 at upper ends to form ears 6 and ii and 8 and 8' respectively.
An applicator body 58 is provided which is disposed in the slots 9 and 9' between the ears 6 and 8 and 8 and 8 and in the form of the invention shown is provided with pivot pins l2 which are disposed in suitable openings in the 1 Claim. (01. -209) members 2 and 4, so that the members 2 and 4 may swing from the closed position shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 to the open position shown in Fig. 4.
The ears 6 and 6' and 8 and 8' are yieldable so that they may be spread apart for the removal and/or insertion of the member ID as may be desired.
The body Hl may be made to have an applicator tip IA. The inner sides of the members 2 and ll at their upper ends are hollowed out so as to provide cavities i5, as shown, so that when the members 2 and 4 are in closed position the applicator tip I4 will be enclosed therein.
Means to releasably hold the members 2 and 4 in open or closed position may take various forms but in the form of the invention shown, a projection 20 is provided on the inside of each ear 6 and 8 of the members 2 and which pro- .iections are receivable in a recess 22 of the member l0.
As the members 2 and 4 are swung between open and closed positions, the ears of said. mem-- bers may yield sufficiently to allow the projection 20 to move outwardly from the recess 22. The ears are loosely mounted on the pins l2 and may be slipped OK at will.
Other means may be provided for releasably holding the members 2 and 4 in closed position and may consist of a tongue 30 on the member 2 which is frictionally engagea ble between opposed surfaces 32 and 34 in a slot 33 of the member 4.
The member l4 may be made from relatively yieldable material such as rubber, rubber composition or the like.
With the handle members 2 and 4 in the closed position shown, the member M is disposed in the cavities l5 so that the tip is concealed and prevents rouge thereon from contacting with other objects.
From the closed position, the members 2 and 4 may be swung to open position shown in Fig. 4. In this position, the tip is exposed and the handles may be grasped for manipulating the tip for the purpose intended.
The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the essential characteristics thereof. Hence, the present embodiments are therefore to be considered in all respects merely as being illustrative and not as being restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claim rather than by the foregoing description, and all modifications and variations as fall within the meaning and purview and range of equivalency of the appended 3 claim are therefore intended to be embraced therein.
What it is desired to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
An applicator holder for a cosmetic material comprising in combination, a pair of relatively movable holder members each holder member having an inner and outer side and an upper slotted end providing spaced ears and each holder member having an inset on the inner and adjacent sides thereof thereby providing a longitudinal cavity between said ears, an applicator body disposed within the slotted ends and between the ears of said holder members, an applicator tip secured to said applicator body, and pairs of pivot pins pivotally connecting said applicator body and said ears of said holder members for permitting swinging movements of said holder members, between a closed position with the inner sides thereof in adjacency, to an open position with the outer sides thereof in adjacency, all adapted and arranged whereby said holder mem- 4 bers may contain said applicator body and tip and conceal said applicator tip within the cavity when in said closed position and when said holder members are in said open position said holder members will support said applicator body and applicator tip in an exposed position.
