Oct. l0, 1950 H. B. KIMBRELL GLOVE Filed July l1, 1949 Inln- Patented Oct'. 1Y0, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GLOVE Home B. Kimbreii, Berry, Ala.
Application July 11, 1949, Serial No. 104,103
1 Claim. l
This invention relates to gloves.
An object of this invention is to provide a glove which is designed for use in the handling of fish so as to prevent a fish from slipping in a hand while removing ahook.v
Another object of this invention is to provide a glove which may be made out of leather, fabric or othei` suitable flexible material which has gripping plates secured thereto whereby a sh may be rmly gripped so as to prevent injury to the fisherman by any sharp fins or other parts of the sh.
With the above and other objects in View, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawing and specication, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a glove constructed according to an embodiment of this invention,
Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional view taken n the line 2-2 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 2,
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 4-,4 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral I0 designates generally a glove which is formed of finger cots or members Il, and a thumb I2. The glove I0 has secured to the inner side of the ngers II spaced gripping members I4 in the form of metal plates which 'are formed with outwardly pressed tangs or detents I5.
Each plate is provided with a pair of slots I6 between the inner and outer edges thereof, and the outer portions of each plate I4Vis depressed as at Il so that a flexible securing strap I8 may be threaded through the slots of each plate. The strap I8 is secured to the inner side of each nger by threads or other fastening means I9, and as shown in Figure 1, three of the fingers are provided with three plates I4 spaced apart lengthwise along each finger Whereas the forefinger has only two plates I4 and the outermost one of these plates is spaced inwardly from the end ofthe forenger.
The thumb I2 has only one plate I4 secured to the inner side thereof by means of a holding strap i8 which is secured by stitching I9, thereby leaving a space beyond the end of the gripping member or plate I4 on the inner side of the thumb I2 and also leaving a space 2| beyond the outer one of the plates I4 on the forefinger.
A substantially ovoidal plate 22 is secured to the heel of the palm 23 of the glove, being provided with outwardly offset detents or gripping tangs 24 and the plate 22 is formed with a pair of slits 25 through which a holding strap 26 is extended.l The strap 26 is secured to the heel of the palm 23 by stitching 2'I, and the opposite ends of the plate 22 are also secured to the palm 23 by stitching 28.
By providing a glove with anti-slip gripping means as hereinbefore described, a fish can be firmly grasped in the hand and held against slipping so that a hook may be removed from the fish, or other operation performed thereon. By providing the spaces 20 and 2| adjacent the outer ends of the thumb and forenger, these digits will not be stiffened by the anti-slip plates and the ends of these digits may be used for grasping the line or hook Where two gloves are used.
I do not mean to confine myself to the exact details of construction herein disclosed, but claim al1 variations falling within the purview of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
In combination, a glove, a plurality of gripping members each formed of a plate having a transverse row comprised of a plurality of outwardly struck apertured detents and each plate having a pair of spaced transverse slots on opposite sides of said row of detents, a plurality of flexible strapsY threaded through said slots, there being a strap for each finger of said glove and extending substantially the length of the underside thereof and there being at least one gripping member intermediately positioned on each strap, means securing said straps to the inner sides of said fingers, an ovoidal gripping member provided with a plurality of aligned rows of hollow detents, said ovoidal gripping member having a pair of spaced slots therein and a strap securing said gripping member to the heel of said glove.
