This invention relates to manicuring devices.

An object of this invention is to provide a device which will facilitate the painting or coloring of finger nails so that the paint or color ing material may be applied quickly and evenly, and Without smearing.

Another object of this invention is to provide a device of `this kind which is readily adjustable to various sizes of lingers.

A further object of this invention is to provide 1a device of this kind which includes an improved means for covering the lingers and leaving the linger nails exposed.

With the above and other objects in view, our invention consists in the arrangement, combifjnation and details of construction disclosed in rthe drawings and specication, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral Ill designates generally a base which is of rectangular configuration and is formed in the upper surface thereof with a plurality of longitudinally extending arcuate channels I within which the fingers of a user are adapted to engaged.

A cover I2 of transversely arcuate congura tion which is formedwith side flanges I3 is adapted to engage over the base i and the rear portions of the channels I I. The cover I2 has secured thereto elongated L-shaped lever arms I4 which are pivotally mounted on bolts l carried by the sides of the base IIl and the arms I4 are xed in operative or inoperative position by means of wing nuts I6 threaded on the bolts I5.

The cover I2 has secured to the inner side thereof transversely curved shields I'I whichare adjustable along the length of the cover I2 by means of headed pins IB, and wing nuts I9 which .are threaded on bolts 20 fixed to the shields I1. "The cover I 2 is formed with elongated longitudinally extending slots 2| through which theheaded pins I8 are adapted to be extended, and the bolts 20 also extend through theseslots. 2I.

The shields Il have mounted on their forward ends a pair of guards 22 which are spring-pressed toward each other by springs 23. The guards 22 are formed with complementary curved inner edges 24 so that when a linger is extended 'beneath a shield Il the end of the finger will pro` ject beneath the guards 22 with the linger nail exposed between the inner edges 24.

The shield I1 is formed with transversely ex` tending slots 25 within which headed pins 26 carried by the guard 22 are adapted to slidably engage. In order to provide a means whereby the tip of the finger will be shielded sothat the p-olish which is applied to the linger nail will not engage on the tip of the finger, wehave provided a substantially crescent-shaped shield 21 which is carriedby a split resilient loop `28 having a pair of parallel arms 2S. The parallel arms 29 are biased away from each other `and are adapted to engage in a groove 3o which is formed in the base Il) at the bottom of the channel II.

The base IIB has also formed therein a transversely extending channel 3| which is forward of the channels II. The channel 3l is designed to receive the thumb and a transversely arcuate cover 32 is slidably mounted in a pair of channels or slots 33 which are formed in the base I0 parallel with the side edges of the channel BI. The guard or cover 32 has slidably mounted on the inner side of the forward end thereof a pair of ringer nail shield members 34 which are similar in every detail to the shield members 22. A substantially cresent-shaped tip shield 35 is carried by a split resilient loop 35 having a pair of flanges 31 extending from the free edges thereof and frictionally engaging in the `groove 38 which is formed in the bottom of the channel 3l.

Referring now to Figures 6 and '7, there is disclosed a manicuring aid designed only for holding one linger or digit at a time. The manicuring aid shown in Figures 6 and 7 includes a hollow base 43 formed with a, longitudinally exending opening 4I in the top wall 42 thereof, and provided with a longitudinally extending bar 43 which extends between the end walls 44 thereof. The bar 43 is disposed in the lower portion of the base 4!) and a transversely arcuate nger rest 45 is disposed within the base 4B, being constantly urged upwardly by springs 45 so that the upper longitudinal edges of the seat 45 will be in substantial contact with the top wall 40 along the edges of the opening l.

The seat member i5 is disposed with the concave side thereof uppermost.

In the use and operation of this device, the four iingers of one hand are adapted to be disposed in the four channels l i of the device shown in Figures 1 to 5 inclusive. The cover l2 is ini- Y tially raised to permit the seating of the iingers in the channel i l. After the fingers are properly seated the cover l2 is lowered and locked in its lowered position. The guard.: il are lengthwise adjusted in the slots 2l so that the shields 22 will be dispo-sed about the finger nails. The tip shields 2l are then moved rearwardly so that the crescent members '2l will engage above the tip of the finger nails. The exposed finger nails may then be painted in the event any paint should ever run such paint will engage on the shield members 22 or the shield members 2l.

After the paint has dried the cover i2 may be raised and the thumb may be painted in like manner by extending'the thumb under the cover 32 and into the channel Si.

We do not mean to corinne ourselves to the exact details of construction herein disclosed but claim all variations falling within the purview of the appended claimsvWhat we claim is:

1. A manicure aid comprising a base formed with channel within which a digit is adapted to seat, a transversely arcuate cover engageable over said channel, Said base having a lengthwise groove in said channel, a pair of iinger shields carried by said cover, a iinger tip shield, and means engaging in said groove adjustably supporting said finger tip shield relative to said pair i of shields.
