. Patented Dec. 13,1881.
WITNESSES N4 PETERS. mx umo mr. wwangm. ac.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE...
DAVID C. THOMPSON, OF ROCK ISLAND, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO MARCUS C. ISAACS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
BELLOWS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 251,000, dated December 13, 1881.
Application filed October 13, 1881. (Model) T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DAVID C. THOMPSON, of
the city of Rock Island, in the county of Rock Island and State-of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bellows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specitication.
Figurel is a perspective view of my improved bellows-nozzle. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of a pair of bellows having my improved nozzle; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view, showing the method of connecting the leather to the nozzle.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters of reference.
This invention relates to bellows; and it consists inconstructing the nozzle by casting it in a single piece provided with a leaf or plate, to which the lower stationary board is attached, and having a hinge for the upper board.
It further consists in securing the flexible sides to the said nozzle; and, finally, in the arrangement of a leather flap or washer to make the hinge-joint perfectly tight, as will be hereinafter fully shown and specified.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A represents the nozzle, which is cast in a single piece, as shown, and provided with a leaf or plate, B, projecting rearward, for the attachment of the bottom board, 0, which has a valve, D, of the usual construction. The upper side of the.
nozzle is provided with a hinged leaf, F, to which the top board, G, is attached.
H is the leather which forms the flexible connection between the top and bottom G C, to the edges of which it is attached in any suit able manner. The ends of the said flexible strip are connected to the nozzle by means of rivets I, and broad flat washers J are used, so as to insure strength and make an air-tight joint.
K is a flexible flap or washer, clamped or secured between the hinge F and top board, G, and extending forward under the hinge in order to form a tight joint.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed, the operation of my invention will be readily understood.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. The herein-described improved bellowsnozzle A, cast in a single piece with the leaf or plate B, and having hinged leaf F, as described, for the purpose set forth.
2. In a bellows having the nozzle A, the flexible strip H, having its end secured to said nozzle by rivets I, and washers J, as described, for the purpose set forth.
3. In a bellows, the combination, with the nozzle A, having hinged leaf F, of the top board, G, secured to said leaf, and the interposed fiexible flap K, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own Ihave hereto affixed my signature in presence of witnesses.
DAVID C. THOM PSON.
