E DISPENSER CIGARETTE cAsE "Fii Nov. 1s, 1948 ATTE! RN EYE Patented May 23, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT GFFICE DISPENSER CIGARETTE CASE Stephen Kassovic, La Salle, Ill.
Application November 16, 1948, Serial No. 60,296 s claims. (c1. S12- 73) This invention relates to cigarette dispensers particularly adapted for use in motor vehicles, and in particular includes a barrel or cylindricalshaped container having a channel-shaped depending section within an opening in the lower forward corner of the depending section though which cigarettes may be withdrawn by hand.
The purpose of this invention is to provide a unique cigarette dispenser that may be mounted on or in the instrument board of a, motor vehicle so that cigarettes may be withdrawn by the operator of the vehicle without taking his eyes from the road ahead. Y e
In the usual cigarette package or dispenser it is diicult for the operator of a motor vehicle to withdraw a cigarette with one hand and almost e impossible to withdraw a cigarette without looking at the case.
With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a cigarette dispenser having a cylindrical upper end with a depending channelshaped section having an outlet opening in the forward end and having a cylinder with a longitudinally disposed slot in the wall thereof rotatably mounted in the cylindrical upper end.
The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide a unique cigarette dispenser that may be mounted in the instrument board of a rnotor vehicle which may readily be filled and from which cigarettes may be withdrawn without looking at the dispenser.
Another object of the invention is to provide a cigarette dispenser adapted to be mounted on the instrument board of a motor vehicle which may readily be refilled.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cigarette dispenser for an instrument board of Figure 1 is a view showing a front elevation of .p
the dispenser with the device mounted on an instrument board and with part of the instrument board broken away;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section through the dispenser taken on line 2-2 of Figure l;
Figure 3 is a front elevational view showing the outer case with the inner cylinder removed;
Figure 4 is a view looking upward toward the under side of the dispenser;
Figure 5 is a cross section through the dispenser taken on line 5-5 of Figure 2 and Figure 6 is a detail showing the inner cylinder of the dispenser looking upward toward the under side thereof showing thev longitudinal opening therein.
Referring now to the drawing wherein like reference characters denote correspondingvparts the cigarette dispenser of this invention includes an outer case I0 and an inner cylinder II with the inner cylinder provided with a head I2 having a knurled ilange I3.
The case I0 is provided with a cylindricalshaped upper section I4 and a relatively narrow depending channel-shaped section I5. The section I5 is formed with side walls I6 and Il, a base I8, a front I9 and a rear wall 20, and the forward edges of the side walls I6 and Il are provided with recesses 2| and 22 through which an end of a cigarette, as indicated by the dotted lines 23, may extend as shown in Figure 2. The lower end of the front Wall I9 stops at a point corresponding with the upper edges of the recess wherein the cigarette may be gripped by the thumb and forenger and readily withdrawn without operating the other parts of the case. The upper surface of the cylindrical section of the case is provided with a bead forming a stop 24 which is positioned to engage the outer surface of the instrument board 25 to limit movement of the case into the instrument board. The front wall I9 of the case is provided with a recess 26 that is positioned to receive a lug 21 on the flange I3 of the cylinder Il, and with the lug aligned with the longitudinal opening 28 in the cylinder Il the position of the cylinder may be located in the case so that the open side is in the bottom.
The parts of the device may be made of plastic, or any other suitable material and it may be made of any convenient size.
With the parts arranged in this manner, the dispenser may be inserted in an opening in the instrument board of a motor vehicle and with the stop 24 limiting the movement of the dispenser in the instrument board, the knurled flange I3 will be spaced from the instrument board so that it may be conveniently gripped by the thumb and foreinger to rotate the same. To refill the dispenser, the cylinder I I may be turned over with opening 23 in the upper side and then withdrawn, and after the cigarettes have been placed therein, it may be returned to the case said depending section having side walls, a basegg) front and rear walls and having recesses vrin the lower forward ends of the side walls with'the* in the wall thereof positioned to register with the depending lower section of the case with the inner cylinder positioned in the case, said inner cylinder having gripping means on the outer end 5 for rotating the cylinder, and means limiting the rotation of the said inner cylinder.
