The; opposite, ends of the pail supporting portion. of the bracketare bent as shown in the; figures ofvthe drawingr One endportionrisbentto provide; a..sadd1e-like part 2.9. which is. adapted tOibfl received overthe side rail 2-2. of. a; convenetion'al. extension ladder asshowninFig; 2.. Such a ladden is. commonly provided? with. round. rungs 24. The end of the saddle portion 20 is extended and bent to form a hook 26 which hook is adapted to engage over a rung 24 of the ladder when the saddle is mounted upon the side rai1 22 all as shown in Fig. 2.
This mountin of the bracket upon a ladder is readily accomplished and when the bracket is so mounted the U-shaped portion Ill within which the pail is hinged projects laterally outwards from the side rail of the ladder and the pail is supported conveniently disposed for access. The at tachment of the bracket to the ladder is readily releasable so that the pai1 may be moved from one rung to another as desired. The mounting is such that the pail is securely supported.
The opposite end of the U-shaped pail supporting portion I is extended and bent to form a U-shaped saddle portion 28 and a hook portion 30. This hook portion 30 is adapted to engage over the flat step 32 of a step ladder and the saddle portion 28 is adapted to embrace th upright rail 34 of a step ladder. It is conventional practice in step ladder construction to provide underneath each step a tie rod 36 which has a head that projects slightly beyond the upright rail 34. The saddle portion 28 engages underneath the head of the tie rod and the connection formed by the hook 30 with the flat step and by the saddle '28 with the upright rail and under: neath the head of the tie rod is such that the bracket will not tilt but maintain such horizontal projected position as shown in Figure 1 and securely supports the pail as illustrated.
"The two U-shaped saddle portions 2!} and 28 are disposed within the plane of the pail supporting portion and open in the same direction but are spaced therefrom by the bends l2 as shown in the drawing. The space within the bends l2 permit adjustment of the screws in and out. The hook portions 26 and 3!! are disposed perpendicularly to the plane of the pai1 supporting portion Ill and the saddle portions and 2B but project in opposite directions therefrom.
The hook portion 26 is relatively narrow and deep to' engage over the rung of an extension ladder as'shown in Fig. 2. The hook portion is relatively wide and shallow to engage over the step of astep ladder as shown in Fig. 1.
It will be seen therefore that this particular bracketstructure is adaptable for use either with a step ladder or an extension ladder and is readily attachable to either type of ladder or detachable therefrom. It serves the purpose of a bale for transporting the pail which is mounted therein. It serves to securely support a pail ofiset outwardly the rail of a ladder.
What I claim is:
1. A pail supporting bracket comprising a U- shaped intermediate portion adapted to engage opposite sides of a pail disposed therein, each end of the U being extended and bent upon itself forming a saddle portion disposed within the plane of the U and adjacent thereto adapted to embrace the upright rail of a ladder and a hook portion adapted to engage a step of the ladder, one saddle portion having its two legs disposed in the same plane and in the plane of the U, and
having the outer end of its outer leg bent away from the plane of the U and provided with a hook end, and the other saddle portion having its inner leg disposed in the plane of the U and its outer leg offset the inner leg perpendicularly to the plane of the U, the outer end of said outer leg bent downwardly toward the plane of the U.
2. A pail supporting bracket comprising a U- shaped intermediate portion provided with opposed inwardly projecting adjustable means adapted to pivotally engag opposite sides of a pail disposed within the U, each end of the U- shaped pail supporting portion being extended and bent upon itself forming a U-shaped saddle portion disposed within the plane of the pail supporting portion and adjacent thereto and adapted to embrace the upright rail of a ladder with the pai1 supporting portion projecting outwardly horizontally away from the ladder, each saddle portion terminating in a hook adapted to engage over a rung of the ladder.
3. A pail supporting bracket comprising a U- shaped intermediate portion provided with opposed pins projecting inwardly from opposite sides of the U and being adjustable to engage opposite sides of a pail disposed within the U to swingably support the pail therein, each end of the U-shaped pail supporting portion being extended and bent upon itself forming a U-shaped saddle portion disposed within the plane of the pail supporting portion and adjacent thereto and being open on the sameside and adapted to embrace the upright rail of a ladder and terminating in a hook portion disposed normal to the plane of the saddle portion and adapted to engag over a rung of the ladder.
4. A pail supporting bracket comprising a U- shaped intermediate portion provided with opposed means projecting inwardly from opposite sides to engage opposite sides of a pail disposed within the U to swingably support the pail there in, each end of the U-shaped pail supporting por tion being extended and bent upon itself forming a U-shaped saddle portion disposed within the plane of and adjacent to but spaced slightly from the pail supporting portion, th ends of the two saddle portions being extended and bent in op posite directions perpendicularly with respect'to the plane of the pail supporting portions forming ladder rung-engaging hooks, one hook being relatively narrow'and deep and the other hook being relatively shallow and wide.
5. A pail supporting bracket comprising'a U- shaped bale-like portion having a pair of opposed screws threaded through opposite sides of the bale to engage opposite sides of a pail disposed therein to swingably support the pail, opposite ends of the bale portion being reversely bent and shaped to form a U-shaped saddle portion spaced slightly from the bal and disposed within the plane thereof and adjacent thereto and being open in thesame direction as the bale, each saddle portion being adapted to embrace the upright rail ofaladder, one saddle portion having its two legs disposed'in substantially the same plane and in the plane of the bale and the other saddle portion having its two legs disposed one in the same plane as the bale and the other offset perpendicularly therefrom, th outer leg of each saddle having its outer end bent to form a hook, said hook ends projecting in opposite directions.
