Application December 22, 1947, Serial No. 793,168 1 Claim. (01. 132 s1) One of the prime objects of the invention is todesign a fountain shaving kit, including a hollow .handle in which shaving cream is contained, and provide means for extruding predetermined quantities thereof into the brush as desired.
Another object is to provide a shaving kit including a plunger formed with a floating washer for accurately and closely engaging the side walls of the container, thus eliminating any leakage of the shaving cream back of the plunger as the mechanism is actuated.
A further object is to design a shaving kit including means to prevent saturating and soaking of the brush bristles with the cream during the period the brush is not in use.
Still a further objectof the invention is to design a shaving kit including a cap for housing and shielding the brush bristles, which cap forms a handle fora conventional razor, so that the brush, shaving creamand razor are incorporated in a single, compact kit or item.
A further object of the invention is to provide a simplified shaving kit composed of few parts, all of substantial design and. construction, which can be readily and economically manufactured and assembled, and which can be easily and quickly cleaned and loaded.
Still a further object is to design a compact, neat-appearing shaving kit which can be readily packed in a traveling bag or case, and which is especially adaptable for travelers, soldiers, sailors and others where limited packing space is available, and where it is desired to have all shaving material, etc. in a single kit.
To the accomplishment of the foregoing and related ends, said invention then consists of the means hereinafter fully described, and more particularly pointed out in the claim, the annexed drawings and following description setting forth in detail, certain means and one mode of carrying out the invention, such disclosed means and mode illustrating, however, but one of the various ways in which the principle of the invention may be used.
Fig. 6 is also a transverse-sectionalv view taken on the line 6-6 of Fig. 2.
i 'lis a transverse-sectional view taken on the line 'l-'| of Fig. 2.
Fig. 8 is an isometric view of the razor guard.
Referring now more specifically to the drawings in which I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention. There is provided ahollow handle member I!) which can be constructed or molded of plastic or any other desired material, the oneend being open as shown and being internally threaded as at H to accommodate the threaded end of the plug member l2, which member is centrally bored as at 13 to accommodate a centrally disposed section 14 of a cap member It, said cap in turn being bored as at Hi to accommodate the one end of a threaded stem H, which is securely and, non-rotatably mounted therein.
A washer member I8 is mounted on the stem 11 as shown, and'a special nut I9 is threaded on the stem I1 and bears against said washer to hold it tightly against plug l2 and the centrally disposed section I4 of the cap l5.
The opposite end oithe handle is shouldered as at 20, and is threaded as shown for threaded engagement with the open threaded end 2| of the bristle cap 22, this end of the handle being centrally bored and threaded as at 23, and accommodates a preferably metallic bristle holder H, the lower end of which is threaded for engagement with the threaded section 24 of the handle, said bristle holder comprising inner and outer cylindrical sections 25 and 26 respectively, to form a concentric bristle holder, the inner end wall of which is inwardly dished or conical-shaped as shown to form a holder for the bristles B, and
protects the inner ends of the bristles from shaving cream S.
The shaving cream S is placed in the hollow portion 2? of the handle ID, the section immediately adjacent the bristle holder being shouldered and angled as at 28 to register with and lead to the cream passage P which opens into the center of the bristle body, and I wish to direct particular attention to the fact that the inner wall of the end section of the handle is also conical shaped as at 28 to eliminate any shoulders or pockets in which shaving cream might lodge and dry.
A shank 30 is mounted on the free end of the bristle cap 22, and a conventional razor structure R. is mounted thereon in the usual manner, a blade guard 3| being provided and slidably engages the edges of the razor structure and is formed with a stop 32 to limit the sliding movement of the guard.
A plunger 33 is mounted on the stem l1, and is formed with a centrally disposed, threaded opening 34, and spaced-apart concentric flanges 35 are formed integral with said plunger, a resilient washer 36 being mounted between said flanges and is formed with an enlarged center opening 31 so that the washer is free to float with relation to said anges, permitting it to remain accurately centered at-all times, regardless of the I. D. of the washer, this washer being of a diameter to form a tight fit with the Wall of the container, preventing rotation thereof as the stem is actuated.
Toload the container; the plug and cap I2 and [5 are first unscrewed from the handle Ill so that the stem andplunger'can be withdrawn as a unit, the cap being first rotatedto bring the plunger 33 tightlyagainst the nut 19. The container is then-'filled with shaving cream S, after which the cap and plug are again screwed in position, and rotation of the cap l5 forces the plunger 33-downwardly in the shell, squeezing the cream-through the-passage 25 and into the bristles'B'. The-endsof the bristles are then dipped into watc -and upon application tothe face, a rich latherisquickly produced;
After the-shaving is completed, the razor is cleaned, theguard 3lis-again applied and the cap 22 is'then placed over-the bristles and screwed to position. Smallopenings 42 are provided in the bristle cap for drying-and ventilation pur- PQ Q Thedevice forms a complete kit; it provides everything-necessary for shaving; it is neat, compact, and of pleasing appearance; and the entire structure can be easily and economically manufactured and assembled.
From the foregoing description, it will be obvious that I have designed and perfected a simple, practical, inexpensive, and compact shaving kit which is convenient to use, which can be easily cleaned, assembled, and in which any parts can be replaced when broken or worn.
A brush comprising a holldw'handle having an open internally threaded end, a bristle container mounted in said threaded end, and provided with +9; conical-shaped, dished head open to said hollow handle, bristles in said bristle container, a
centrally disposed passage in the container and open to said handle and the bristles respectively,
: a'plug threadedfirr the opposite end of the holldw handle'and formed with a centrally disposed HENRY WILLIAM 'BAUDER.
