September 25, 1950, Serial No. 186,588 .2 Claims. (01. zss- -ssy Application 1 v This invention relates to an improved accounting sheet or form.
The accounting or book-keeping form comprising the present invention embodies a sheet having a detachable elongated portion or strip which is adapted to be removed and transferred to a similar sheet or to a difierent position on the same sheet. The sheet is suitably formed with a plurality of vertically spaced transverse cuts which provide horizontal openings through which a detached 'strip from the same or another sheet may i be threaded. The ends of the detached stripwhen transferred to the same or another similar sheetare secured against displacement, thereby making it possible for certain informative data'or figures on the strip to be maintained in cooperative side-by-side relationship with other data appearing on the sheet. An end of the detachable strip is provided with an-identifying mark or symbol which, when the strip is in a transferred position on a sheet, will be visible through a small opening in the said sheet. A similar identifying mark or symbol printed on the sheet alongside the opening through which the identifying mark or symbol of the strip is visible, provides guide means for marking the precise column or area on the sheet where the strip is to be positioned. The primary purpose of providing an accounting sheet of the kind characterized above is to make it conveniently possible for certain informative data connected with a continuing account to be transferred from a sheet which may not then be currently used to one on which current associated entries are made.
For the purpose of this application we have elected to show herein certain forms and details of an accounting form or sheet representative of our invention. It is to be understood, however, that the embodiment of our invention herein shown and described is for the purpose of illustration only, and that therefore it is not to be regarded as exhaustive of the variations of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the front side of an accounting sheet embodying our invention, showing the detachable portion or strip before its removal;
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the sheet with several removed strips from other similar sheets in attached positions thereon;
Fig. '3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a detached strip; and

Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail view of an end portion of a strip and the accountingsheetto which it is attached.
Referring to the drawing the numeral l designates a paper sheet of substantially rectangular shape, preferably havinga plurality of vertically arranged spaced holes 2 arranged near its right hand edge for attaching the sheetto a supporting structure. I
The front side ofthe sheet is dividedby a-num-w ber of suitably spaced vertical 1111633, into aseries of columns l some of which are partially blank as shown at 4a, and others of which are provided with spaced transverse lines for use in making book-keeping entries. Extending transversely across the sheet, are narrow horizontal spaced shaded areas 5 which are preferably, although not necessarily, arranged in substantiallyuniform spaced relationship. The columns 4 and. 4a are provided at their upper ends with suitabletitles or headings which are used tdindicate where certain entries are to be made.
A substantial part of one of the columns 4, preferably at the left hand side of the sheet, is detachable from the latter, this being made possible by providing parallel lines of weakness 6 along the lateral edges of the said column. The upper and lower ends of the said lines of weakness extend inwardly as at 6a and 6b, respectively, thereby providing tabs or narrow projecting end portions 1 on the removable part of the column or strip 8. The lines of weakness 6, 6a and fib are made in the usual manner by partially cutting or perforating the sheet where the strip 8 is joined to the sheet. By breaking the connections along such lines, the strip 8 may be conveniently detached from the sheet. After the strip is detached it may be attached to the same or preferably another similar sheet in a superimposed position upon a particular blank column 4d thereof.
The sheet I is formed with transverse cuts or openings 9 extending across the blank columns 4a along the upper and lower edges of the shaded areas, and a detached strip 8 may be mechanically or manually threaded through such openings to attach it to the sheet. The sheet is provided with upper and lower cuts or openings 10 which are so arranged that the end tabs 1 of the strip 8 when the said strip is disposed in a fiat position on the sheet, will extend through the said openings. The length of the openings 9 is slightly longer than the width of the strip, while the openings H) are somewhat shorter, thereby making it possible for the lateral edges of the tabs 1 to engage with the ends of the said openings l and thereby prevent the up or down displacement of the strip. The shaded areas and the transverse lines of the strip 8 will be aligned with corresponding shaded areas and lines on the sheet when the said strip is suitably transferred in an operative overlying position on one of the blank columns.
The lower-tab] of" the strip 8 carries an index letter or markll which'is visible through a hole l2 in a similar sheet when the strip has been transferred to an appropriate column 4a thereof. The blank columns 4a of a sheet I are identified with suitable index marks 13 which are positioned near the holes 12. The. indexmark H. of. the strip 8 corresponds to a similar index mark13 associated with a column 4a, thus providing suitable means for indicating the particular column on the sheet where a certain strip is to be located.
The strip 8 and the blank columns 4a of the sheet are preferably marked with a-small square shapedenclosure or othersuitably shaped. bracket H! for the application of a pencil'or pen mark whenfurther identifying symbols are desired.
It-.-is tobeunderstood that the present invention.may be embodied in various other forms depending, upon what type of records, entries and other. informative data is to be assembled on the accounting sheets. In the example shownand described herein theaccounting form is particularly useful inma-intaining flight records for. airline companies.
Whatweclaim is:
1. An accounting form comprising a blank sheet having a. plurality of lines. arranged in parallel relationship. to provide columns for the receiving of bookkeeping entries, a detachable elongated strip forming an integralportionof the sheet,-the said strip constituting a substantial portion of one of said columns before its detachment from the said sheet, a plurality of transverse cuts in the sheet extending transversely across other columns, whereby openings are provided in the sheet for the threading of the strip, an identifying index mark on the end of the strip, and an opening in the sheet through which the index mark on the strip is visible when the said strip is in a transferred position.
2. An accounting form comprising a blank sheet having'an elongated detachable strip attached thereto along its edges, the said strip having end tabs thereon, a plurality of pairs of spaced transverse cuts of substantially equal length arranged in the sheet in parallel relationship one above the other, the length of the cuts being I slightly. longer. than the width of the strip, end
cuts of shorter length in the strip, the said end cuts beingarrangedin parallel relation to the other cuts and being spaced from one another for. a distance slightly less than the length of the strip, an identifying symbol on one of the tabs of the strip, and an opening in thesheet adjacent one of the end cuts and through which the symbol is visible.
