Description

J. TREADWELL. Ventilating Stove.
Patented Nov. 1, 1859.
s vhuwmm n mr. Walhingion, n. c.
UNITED STATES PATENT orrica.
JNO. G. TREAD\VELL, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK.
STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent No.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JNo. G. TREADWELL, of Alban in the county of Albany and State of Yew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VentilatingStoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and t0 the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing and arranging the several parts of this ventilator substantially in the manner hereinafter described.
In the annexed drawings Figure 1 represents a section of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a perspective view.
In the drawings A, represents a stove pipe which rests upon the stove plate F. This pipe is divided vertically by means of a partition B, as in my former patent.
E, and E, represent the two flues formed by the partition B, E being considerably smaller than the flue E.
D, represents a damper, in the flue, E, which is provided with an inclined projection e, on one side, the side to which the projection is attached being heavier than the other side so that the damper being attached centrally in the flue it will have a tendency to remain closed when notoperated upon by the projection upon the door, H.
H, represents a door, hinged at m, which is intended to open or close an opening I, in the side of the flue E. This door, is provided with an inclined projection a, on its inside and with a rack bar (Z, which is hin ed to it on the outside.
J represents a V-shaped case secured to 25,987, dated November 1, 1859.
the pipe in which the door H, plays, the large part of this case being down. a, represents a bar or cross piece across the lower part of the case, J.
It will be seen in Fig. 1 that when the damper D, is unmoved by the project-ion a, it remains in the position seen in that figure closing the flue, E, but when the door is pushed to the projection a, strikes against projection e, and opens the flue E, by raising the damper D, edgewise. The rack bar (I, is so arranged that its teeth will catch upon the cross bar 0, for the purpose of stationing the door H at any desired point. The object of this arrangement is to give more or less ventilation to the room by means of the door H, without opening the damper D. The door does not operate the damper until it is almost closed, at which time it is desirable to close the ventilation, and, at the same time give more draft to the fire. It will be seen that by this arrangement, the ventilation of the room is completely regulated without increasing the draftof the fire.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- Providing the door (H) with an inclined projection (a), on one side; and a hinged rack-bar (d), on the other, when said door is used in connection with the cross-bar (0), and with the damper (D) as constructed, the whole being arranged and operated substantially as and for the purpose specified.
J NO. Gr. TREADWELL.
