In" GreatBritain-July 6, 1943 Thisinvention has reference to I steamboilers of the kind in which separately fired furnaces are arranged side by side and the gases from the one fiow laterally into theother on their'waytothe uptake." When-the furnaces of suchbo'ilersare fired-with liquid, gaseous or -pulverised fuel -fed to burners arranged at the one end of thefurnacesy-the gases of combustion flowing-from the one :furnacethrough the other are apt to interfere with combustion of the fuel issuingfrom'the burners" in the latter furnace unless directed away from the said "burners. In some cases-partitioning-baffles or walls have been provided to direct the gases from the one furnace through the upper part ofthe-other furnace above its corners or through the portion of the furnace remote-from the burner-s so that the ases fromthe one furnace are confined topassagethrough only a comparatively small portion of the other furnace.
According to this=invention in order-toobt'ain distribution of the gases from one furnace overa I greater portion of the other" furnace and at th'e same-time to protectthe burners of the latter furnace from interference by said gases,--a baffie is provided between thefu-rnaces which is ofsuificient depth at the burner end of-the'furnaces to prevent the-gases from-the one furnacefiowing over the :burnersin-theother with decreases in depth-towards the other endofthe furnacesthus enabling the gases from the :one furnace to-enter the other towards the-endremote from: thesectional-elevation of a water tube "boiler-fittedwith one form of bafiie according to the invention, the View beingtaken looking from the rear of theboi ler towards the front thereof. upper steam and water drum, a pair of spaced lower water drums, a bank of inclined steam generating tubesconnecting said upper drum to one of said lower drums, a group of steam generating tubes connecting'the upper drum to the other of said lower water drums, a baflle arranged to divide the space between said tube bank and saidtube group into a furnace chamber and another furnace chamber laterally adjoining said first-mentioned furnace chamber, burner means at one end of said furnace chamber positioned to direct a stream of gases of combustion ina horizontal direction toward the opposite end thereof, other burner means for separately firing said other furnace chamber disposed at, the same end of the setting as the first-mentioned burner means to. direct a stream of gases of combustion in a horizontal direction toward the opposite end of the setting, a single combustion gas outlet fine at the outer side of said tube bank and arranged to receive all of the gases flowing from both furnace chambers, said flue being so located that the heating gases from the other furnace chamber flow over the tube group, the
