(Cl. 240-2) The present invention relates to dry shavers and more particularly to dry shavers which are provided with means, either forming a part thereof, or detachably connected to or mounted thereupon, for the purpose of illuminatingthe surface to be contacted and shaved by the dry shaver. 1
Various illuminating means with dry" shavers have been provided, some of which have been satisfactory from the standpoint of use, but none, or at least only a few of which have been wholly satisfactory from the manufacturing standpoint. This was due to the fact that in many instances special lamp bulbs or built-in resistance elements, all requiring manufacturing changes in the design of any present shaver were required, because of the fact that the shaver motor required a current voltage of from 110 to 115 volts, whereas the relatively small and low voltage incandescent lamp bulb could only operate properly with an extremely low voltage current. Moreover, in accordance with some prior art devices, portable battery-powered lamp bulbs were employed to illuminate the surface to be shaved.
Such devices were obviously bulky and cumbersome to handle. Other devices of the prior art required special bulbs and interference with the motor wiring so as to illuminate the bulb properly from the same source of current which flowed to the magnetic type motor for operating the shaver.
One of the objects of the present invention is to provide an improved dry shaver having im'- proved illuminating means for the surface to be shaved, which device does not have any of the objectionable features, some of which have been described above, of the previously known'devices of this general nature. I
Another object of the invention is to provide a compact and relatively light shaver structure 1,
in which an adapter member attached to a three wire cord, one wire of which has the proper ohm resistance to reduce the voltage from the 110 to 115 volts required for the shaver to the 6-8 volts required for the radio panel light bulb, is associated with the structure for the purpose of adapting the normal electric current of from 110 to 115 volts for operating the shaver motor, for use in illuminating the low voltage lamp bulb with which the shaver is equipped.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved shaver structure in which the illuminating means and the voltage adapter member or plug may be clamped onto the shaver casing and removed facility.

Another object of 'the present invention is to provide an improved shaver of the foregoing character in which the lamp bulb for illuminating the surface to be shaved, while being protected by a hood, is readily removable fromt'he shaver structure forpurposes of removal or replacement.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved shaver having a two-part or twosection casing and improved illuminating means, in which the illuminating means may be installed as a part of the assembly Without requring any manufacturing changes except for the upper part, half or section of the casing.
A further object is to provide a shaver having improved illuminating means which may be applied to the standard or conventional shaver casing of any make or brand of shaver, and removed therefrom, without requiring or necessitating any manufacturing changes whatsoever in the shaver structure.
Another object of the invention is to provide a low voltage lamp bulb having a socket fitting Within a hood or reflector recess formed in the shaver casing, in which the bulb socket has a sliding friction fit permitting it and the bulb to be removed when and if desired.

A three-wire detachable electric connection plug 20 is applied to the rear end of'the casing and its upper portion or section has sockets 2m and 2 lb (see Figs. 5 and 6) to receive the contact pins Nib of the adapter plug. This connection plug or member 20 is provided in its lower forward portion or section with similar sockets 22 to receive contact pins or members (not shown) projecting outwardly from the rear or inner end of the shaver casing 10, these providing the electrical connections for current which flows to the magnetic type motor housed within the casing H).

From the foregoing it will'be seen-that'I have provided an improved dry shaver having improvedmeans, for'illuminatingthe-surface to be shaved; in which the illuminating means-ancl 'its casingor housing may be formed as apart of the shaver casing or housing or may be detachably supported on the latter by means of a clamp, clip, or in any other suitable manner, so that it may be applied to or removed from the shaver casing proper with ease and facility. It will also be understood that by virtue of the present invention, the normal 119 to 115 volt electric current may be employed to operate the shaver motor and to also illuminate the lamp bulb, this because of the provision of the adapter member or plug 17.
The term dry shaver as used herein is to be understood to apply as Well to other similar appliances of various sorts such, for example, as electric clippers used-by barber's, etc.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. An electric shaver comprising a casing, an electric motor within said casing, a shaving head at the forward end of said casing operably connected to said motor, a pair of electrical contacts at the rear end of said casing operably connected to said motor, a hood mounted on said casing, a low voltage bulb mounted in a socket in the forward end of said hood to project light toward said shaving head, a pair of wires extending rearwardly from said socket through said hood, a low voltage adapter member having wires secured to said socket wires, an electrical connection plug having a pair of low voltage connections adapted to engage said low voltage adapter memberto complete the low voltage circuit through the member, said connection plug also having a pair of normal voltage connections adapted to engage said electrical contacts, a conduit comprising a pair of low resistance wires and a high resistance wire, said low resistance wires being connected to said normal voltage connections, said high resistance wire and one of said low resistance wires being connected to said low voltage connections.
2. An illuminating device for an electric shaver having a casing and motor contacts, comprising a hood surmounting and forming a fixed part of the casing of said shaver, a low voltage bulb mounted in one end of said hood to illuminate the working zone of said shaver, a low voltage adapter member electrically connected to said bulb and detachably connected to said hood, a connection plug having a pair of normal contacts adapted to engage the conventional motor contacts of said shaver and a pair of low voltage contacts adapted to engage said low voltage adapter member and a three-wire conduit connected to said connection plug supplying normal voltage to said normal voltage contacts and low voltage to said low voltage contacts.
3. An illuminating device for an electric shaver having a casing comprising a hood mounted on said casing, a substatnially cylindrical portion in one end of said hood adjacent the working zone of said shaver, a bulb socket frictionally engaging said cylindrical portion, an adapter member removably engaged in the other nd of said hood, and a slack wire connection between said adapter member and said bulb socket whereby said bulb socket may be removed from said hood for in sertion or removal of a bulb, said cylindrical portion being provided with a longitudinal guideway, said bulb socket being provided with a guide rib slidably engaging said guideway and said cylindrical portion also forming a reflector for the light rays emitted from said bulb.
