(01.206-1-4513) 1, .This invention relates to a box or container; or recess portion of the box and raise it to a particularly designed for flatware such as knives, :7 point substantially the height of the flanges to forks, spoons and the like. 1 'the upper edge of which it is secured. Likewise, In.shipping or storing flatware such as knives, when the box is moved to closed position, the forks, spoons and so forth, it is usual to place points to which the lining is secured movetoone or two portions of the article beneath elastic f ward each other, thus slackening the lining and straps in order to hold the articles in a position causing the lining to move into the recess in spaced from each other so that one will not cause thef box. member so that the articles which are scratching of another, and when an article such f secured to the lining are moved into the tray as a knife is placed. beneath a loop to strap it or :iecess part of the container. .to, the bottom or lining of the box, it is rather With reference to the drawings, Ill designates diflicultto remove theknife from position. one member of the box and II another member One of. the objects of this invention is to f2 of the box. These members are hinged together provide an arrangement so that the article which so that they may be swung toward or from each is held in the box may be more easily removed, other. fromlth'e box when it is desired to do so. In proceeding with this invention, a lining is In the showing in Figure 4 a somewhat simpler loosely mounted in the box with respect to the form is provided in that the member 30 is proinside surface of the body of the box, but sevided with flanges 3| and 32 joined by end flanges cured along one of the flanges of the body which 33, while t other member of t box is distant from the hinge. Likewise, the lining; prises a lid or cover 34 which has no flanges is secured to h pp member r v r f; but is hinged as at 35 directly to the flange 32. the box and there is secured in such a relation In Figure 5 the flanges 6| on one member 62, that when the box moves to open position, the and 63 on the other member 64 are hinged dilining being secured at points spaced from the: rectly together at 65.
hinge, tends to draw the lining out of the tray 3.; A lining for the construction above described te'rial and likewise the outer wall of the member parallel to the hinge connection between the members. Similarly the other member ll of the occurs whether one or both of the members are flanged.
I claim:
1. A box for flatware comprising two members hinged together to move toward each other into closed position, at least one of said members having flanges to extend toward the other member when in closed position and provide a body having some containing depth, a first flange parallel to the-hirige connection at the edge of the member opposite the hinge with other flanges at right 1 angles thereto, a lining secured to the first flange box has a section 40 of a size to extend from flange Hi to flange l1 and between the connecting flanges l8, while there is'a section 4| secured to the flange l6 and hingedalong the line 42 to the section 40. A section '43 connects the sections 31 and 40 and-is hinged to the section'- 31 as at 44 and to the section 49 as at 45. This section 43 :is of. a width, or. depth substantially equal to the combined depths of they flanges l3 and H-when inedge-to-edge relation. Thus, as shownin Figure 2, when the box is in closed position, the lining will snugly fit into the container.
In the showing in Figure-4 the section 4'! is similarto the section 3'! whichhas joinedto it at oneedge the section 48.hinged.as at 19. However, the section 50 is secured along the inner surface of the member 3 over an area substantially equal to the section 61 and which has no flanges. Asection 53 which is comp-arableto the section 43 in this case is of a width equal to the section 48, as there are no flanges on: the cover or section 34 which must be compensated for.
In some cases where-it is desired to hinge the flanges together as in Figurefi, I provide a support for the lining as at 66 in member 62, and ,6], in member 6 6- so that the lining sections 68 and 69 will rest upon these supports when drawn to raised position. r H
The supportsfifi and .61 also serve to cause the lining to fill the recess in the case when th e case is closed, which otherwise might sag into the recess.
The lining, in each instance, has strapssuch as 55 and 55 spaced-along it at locations where it is desired .to.mount articles of silverwaresuch as shown .in dotted lines at 5'1 in F igure 3. 1
.It. willbe apparent that when the box is in closedposition, the lining, sections, ,will.lie as shown in F-igure.2,..wher.eas. when the'members are movedto open position, such as shown .in
Figure.3,.inasmuch .as the distance betweenthe flanges l2 and [6 becomes greater as the ,members l6 and I! are moved apart, the lining will be stretched and pulled out of its recess between the flanges where it is lodgedas shown in Figure 2 so as to be raised to the position which is" the height of the flanges on both members permit ting the articles of silverware or flatware to be easilywithdrawn from beneath theloops which retain them'in position. This same condition at its free edge and loosely covering the flanged .ineinbe'rbetween and free of said other flanges and extending across the hinge when the members are open and secured to the other member at a. point spaced from said hinge connection said point being at least as high as the upper edgeof the flanges when the other member is in open position and the lining is drawn tight in raised position whereby as the member's-ware closed the secured points are .moved'closer'atm til gether and the loose-'linin'g will .moveinto lthe body of the box Whereas as the imembers'l'are swung open the secured points are moved apart and the lining is drawn taut' and'araised'fmm between the flanges.- H 2.x:Abox as in :claim 1* wherein said lininghas a section to substantially'flt betweenthersaid flanges and cover the inner surface of said meme ber and other sections of .a dimension at right angles to the hinge .linexof .the depth of the flanges, which sections are hingedv to the tflrst said section along lines parallel to .the hingei-line between said' members.
3. A boxas :in claim l'wherein both of. said members have: enclosing flanges and said flanges are hinged together. and the point-of-securement of the lining is at the free edge .of;.thercorre+ sponding flange on 'the other member. s
4. A box as'inclaim 1 wherein both ofsaid members haveenclosing flanges and said flanges are hinged together, and :the. pointofxsecurement of the lining is atthe ,free edge of the corresponding flange on :the other member, and supports are. provided in the members within the flanges. and adjacent the hinge connection vfor said lining.
