1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in garment checking bags for use by customers of swimming pools and for similar purposes where it is desired to check articles of clothing and the invention has for its primary object to provide a ventilated bag for holding the garment.
A further object of the invention is to provide a bag of this character including easily accessible pockets in which the garments may be placed and providing a hanger for the bag including means for hanging garments, such as trousers, skirts or the like in a position exteriorly of the bag.
A still further object is to provide an article of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, strong and durable, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the bag with the trouser or skirt hanger removed;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the trouser or skirt hanger in position thereon;
Figure 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken substantially on a line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on a line 4-4 of Figure 1;
Figure 5 is a rear perspective view and illustrating a modified form of trouser or skirt hanger;
Figure 6 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken substantially on a line EB of Figure 5; and
Figure '7 is a perspective view of one of the trouser or skirt hangers removed from the bag.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates the garment bag generally which is preferably made of a suitable foraminous fabric to permit the free circulation of air therethrough and of transparent material such as a fireproofed plastic or the like.
The lower edge of the material is folded upwardly upon itself and sewed, vulcanized, fused or otherwise suitably secured at its side edges with a tape 6 to provide a pocket I at one side of the material which has its mouth or opening 8 adjacent the upper edge thereof.
A second sheet of similar material 9 is secured to the outer lower surface of pocket I at the side and bottom edges of the sheet 9 in a manner similar to that in which the side edges of pocket I are secured and a tape I0 is secured in a vertical position to the center of the material 9 to provide a pair of pockets I I and I2 in front of the pocket I, each of said pockets I I and I2 having an opening or mouth I3 at the top thereof.
The upper edge of the main sheet of material is folded upon itself and suitably secured at the rear of the bag to form a casing I I open at each end and in which a hanger bar I5 is positioned having a hanger hook I6 extending upwardly therefrom for suspending the bag from an overhead structure.
A garment hanging bar I! of substantially rigid wire or other suitable material has its central portion twisted and bent horizontally as shown at It to provide an eye I9 for engaging over the hook It as shown in Figure 2 of the drawings and the ends of the bar I! are bent angularly and parallel to eye I9 to form a pair of hooks 20 for supporting on the ends of bar I5.
The eye I9 and hooks 29 support the bar IT in a horizontal position at the rear of bag 5 and spaced therefrom, and a pair of garment clips or clamping devices 2| of a conventional type are slidably mounted on bar I! for clamping and hanging a pair of trousers or skirt therefrom.
In Figures 5 and '6, I have illustrated a modified form of garment hanging bar 22 which has its ends bent inwardly as shown at 23 and inserted in the ends of bar I5. Garment clips or clamps 24 are also slidably mounted on bar 22 and trousers may also be folded directly on the bar 22.
The pocket 'I may be used for holding various articles of apparel placed therein and pockets II and I2 used for holding smaller articles, such as shoes or the like.
The hook It supports the bag in a suspended position and the foraminous nature of the bag material permits free circulation of air through the bag to ventilate the articles therein and the transparency of the material enables a person to identify the contents of the bag without removing the same.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is: a
In a garment bag structure, the combination of a horizontal l'ianger bar, a' hooE' -sHaped-su'ss pension member projecting upwardlyfrom an" intermediate'portion of said bar, a bag attached and threaded over said suspension member whereby to support said rod intermediate the ends thereof, and angulated end portions provided on said rod and secured to the ends of said bar.
