Description
Jan. 1, 1952 A. Y. HEINKEL COMBINATION SLIP- AND BRASSIERE Filed July 26, 1948 Patented Jan. 1 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE :COMBINATION $21 31) eRAssIERE I v Amanda Ysidra Heinkel, Hollywood, Calif. i
Application July 26, 1948, Serial No. 40,655
The present invention relates to an improved combination slip and brassire incorporating a novel adjusting arrangement allowing the brassire portion to receive and support the breasts so as to improve the bust contour of the wearer, as well as to benefit those parts of the body, by providing muscular support thereto and to hold the breasts at a more or less normal and proportionately normal contour.
An object of the present invention is to provide an improved combination brassiere and slip incorporating a novel adjusting means for achieving the above mentioned desirable results.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved combination slip and brassiere incorporating but one single strap for comfortable wear during summer months when one wants as much coolness as possible.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved combination slip and brassiere especially adaptable for wear under sheer blouses.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved combination slip and brassire characterized by the fact that the back of the brassire section is loose from the slip to first hold the brassire firmly in place and second, to relieve the slip of any strain when the wearer is in motion.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide an improved combination slip and brassiere in which the back section fastens like a conventional brassiere and is adjustable.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved combination slip and brassiere incorporating a novel brassiere section adjusting means normally concealed within the slip portion.
The features of the present invention which are believed to be novel are set forth with particularity in the appended claim. This invention itself, both as to its organization and manner of operation, together with further objects and advantages thereof, may be best understood by reference to the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combination slip and brassire embodying the present invention.
Figure 2 is a View looking at the back of the garment shown in Figure 1 with the brassiere section fastening means in engagement.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
1 Claim. (Cl. 2-73) V l a 2 Figure 4 is a view similar to the, view shown in Figure 2, but-with the brassire section fastening means disengaged.
The combination brassire and slip incorporates in a single garment a brassiere section IE) and a slip section ll, both sections being supported by shoulder straps l2, 13 with the two cup portions of the brassiere built in and forming a portion of what would otherwise be the top front portion of the slip. The length of the shoulder straps l2, [3 may be adjusted in conventional manner by use of the conventional strap adjusting members I4.
While the present invention is applicable to combination slips and brassires in which the brassiere cups may be of different construction, I prefer to use, so far as is applicable, the construction shown in my copending application, Serial No. 739,161, filed April 3, 1947, now abanboned for brassiere. The slip section II may be of conventional construction and blends in with the construction of the brassiere section, an important feature being that the slip conceals the adjusting means for the brassire section and in part supports the same in convenient position when such adjusting means is detached.
The adjusting means for the brassire section includes a pair of internal flap members l5, l8 each stitched at l1, l8, respectively, along opposite side seams of the garment and with the inner ends of such flap members l5, I6 carrying cooperating fastening means 20, 2| of the hook and eye type. The hook fastening member 2! has passing therethrough a flexible tape 24 which has its ends stitched to the end of fiap member l5. The plurality of eye fastening members 2| are fastened in the cloth portion 26 which, in turn, is stitched to the other flap member Hi.
It is noted that the shoulder straps l2, l3 are not only stitched to the upper edge of the back of the slip portion I l but extend further and are stitched respectively to the flap portions l5, Hi to hold them in a convenient position when the fastening means 20, 2! is disengaged.
A narrow elastic band 30 threaded through a sleevelike portion 3| at the sheared top of the back of the slip provides an elastic structure arranged to form fit a person either with broad shoulders or with narrow shoulders so that the back of the slip always hugs the back of the wearer to provide a form fit. The ends of the elastic band 30 may likewise be stitched at'the side seams.
While the particular embodiments of the present invention have been shown and described, it
will be obvious to those skilled in the art that changes and modifications may be made without departing from this invention in its broader aspects and, therefore, the aim in the appended claim is to cover all such changes and modifications as fall within the true spirit and scope of this invention.
I claim:
A combination slip and brassirecomprising a brassiere section and slip section, said brassiere section having a pair of side edges, said slip section having a front panel and a back panel, said brassiere section and said slip section being stitched together with the fronta-panekwf-the slip section secured at its top edge to the lowermost edge of said brassire section, andwith the back panel of the slip section secured to t e iq edges of the brassiere section to form aback portion for the brassire section, a pair of flap- Number Name Date 1,618,198 Hoffman Feb. 22, 1927 1,632,137 Jackson June 14, 1927 20 2,113,795 Marshall.
