applied or removed over the headfof the child or :to permit..r.aising of vthealowei; portionrof the garment when necessary.
An additional object of the invention is to provide a garment with a neck opening and a bottom opening together with means for closing each of said openings and in a manner substantially eliminating release of such openings by the child upon whom the garment is placed.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination of the several parts of my improved garment whereby certain advantages are attained, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order that my invention may be better understood, I will now proceed to decribe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure l is a view in iront elevation of a garment embodying the invention, the neck being open;
Figure 2 is a view in bottom plan of the garment as shown in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view in side elevations of the bottom portion of the garment;
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view in front elevation of the neck portion of the garment;
Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional view taken substantially on the line 5-5 of Figure 4; and
Figure 6 is an enlarged fragmentary bottom view of Figure 3 as indicated by the line 6-6 of Figure 3.
of the front opening to the other.
As disclose'din the accompanyingfdrawing; the;
bod-yfof the garment comprises 4a-'single backpiece and'two'front-fpiecesaz. The outer-marginal portions-of the front pieces@ are secured tothe outer -marginal portions of the-back piece-1x by?"I conventional fstitchingfrorn fthe sleeveA openingsA4 f 3 for' a distanceapproximately two-thirdsfdown they-garment# Placed-rbetweenthe v'Jlowerrsepa-lL rated-'portions of thepieces I and Zare the guskrvrl setsi 5L', the wide Vends A'of Awhich* beingf substantially l The'segussets ser-ve -to permit a greater separa# tionbetween the associated or -lower lportions-fof thefpieces-I ande?, when the garmente'is being*-4v worn-I to give greater freedom to the; lower. limbs f- Vof the-'child to the extentof -allowingthe'child #"1 to lwalls Without its steps being hindered-bythe?t garment The gussetseare held in placebyconventional Vs 'stitchingas-alse' are thebottom panels -62' vTh'ese--- "panels t?Vr are tworin number and substantially in The outer marginal l portions 'oi-ftheeduplicate. panels-45- a-re securedto the'flowerrmarginal por-L tions-of theipieces tand-Y2E and the vfgussets-5=with ffl 'y their-` opposedioinner Jmargins substantially-f1- straight from end to end. Disposed along the opposed marginal portions of the panels 6 are the interlocking strips 1 of a well-known type of zipper which is under control of a slide 8.
When the opposed marginal portions of the panels 6 are connected the bottom of the garment is effectively closed, `and when connected the panels 6 provide an elliptical closure of a predetermined width from end to end to further permit the desired expansion of the lower portion of the garment, to assure freedom for the nether limbs of the child wearing the garment. For the same further purpose, the end margins of the panels 6 are relatively broad and aggregating the width of the associated extremities of the gussets 5.
The major portions of the inner margins of the `front pieces 2 are connected by conventional stitching from the bottom of the garment to a point closely adjacent to the neck opening of the garment whereby is provided a front opening b to permit the desired placement of the garment on the child. With the opposed margins of the panels free, the garment can be readily applied over the head of the child and removed in the same manner.
The neck opening is dened by a collar 9 extending around the neck opening from one side Stitched, as at l0, or otherwise secured to one end portion of the neck band 9, is an extremity of an elongated flexible member or tape Il, having its opposite 3 free extremity provided with a fastening element I2 for engagement with a second fastening element I4 carried by the neck band 9 at the opposite side of the front opening b.
Overlying the inner face of the member or tape II, is a second flexible member or tape I5, having its extremities secured as at I6, to the member or tape II, whereby is provided a loop a for receiving the operating tongue II, of the controlling slide I8 coacting with the conventional interlocking strips secured to the inner marginal portions of the front pieces 2 defining the neck opening b.
When the neck opening bis fully closed, the tongue I'I of the slide I8 may be extended up into the loop a, to prevent the same being tampered with by the wearer of the garment. To hold the slide I8 against downward or opening movement by the child, the member or tape II is provided with a separable fastening element- I9 which extends through the opening 20 in the tongue II for lockingly engaging with the second fastener element 2|, carried by the member or tape I5. These elements I9 and 2| are preferably of a well known ball and socket type.
One of the panels 6 at the closing end of the slide 8 has secured thereto, as at 22, an end portion of a flexible member or tape 23 of a length to extend over the corresponding end portion of the second panel 6 and is detachably secured thereto, as at 24, by desired separate fastening elements such as the elements I9 and 2I hereinbefore referred to. The inner face of the member or tape 23 has secured thereto the extremities of a second flexible member tape 25, to provide a loop to receive the operating tongue 26, for the slide 8. This tongue 26 is also provided with an opening 21 through which the separate fastener elements engage as at 28 for the same purpose hereinbefore disclosed in connection with the fastener elements I9 and 2I.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a garment constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well 4 adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be used.
I claim:
In a sleeping garment, a bag-like body having neck, front and bottom openings, a zipper closure including the operator slide thereof for said front and bottom openings, and separable fastener means at the closing ends of each of said zippers engageable with the operator slide of the same to prevent its accidental displacement from its position to effect the closing of the related opening, a tape-secured to the garment adjacent the closing endfof each of said zippers, a loop provided intermediate the ends voi said tape, said separable fastener means having its parts secured at opposite sides of the interior of said loop, said operator slide having an aperture opening through the same for the engagement of said separable fastener therewith, and aV second separable fastener having one of its parts carried by the free end of said tape and its other part secured on said garment opposite from the point of securement of the said one end therewith.
