UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Claims.

One of the objects of the invention is to provide a cosmetic compact of a box-like structure which is adapted to conveniently hold and retain specific articles for facial use, in respective places in the structure.

Another object of the invention is to form the interior structure of the compact of a design for providing ease of accessability to the articles contained in the compact.

`With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the combination and arrangements of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit and intents of the invention.

An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved cosmetic compact with the lid or cover in an open position.

Figure 2 is a longitudinal section'taken approximately on the line 2 2, of Fig. 1.

Figure 3 is a transverse section taken approximately on the line 3-3, of Fig. 1.

Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing, this improved compact comprises a box 4 having a lid 5 which is hinged at 6 to the box, said lid having depending walls 1 on the sides and front thereof.

A compartment 3 is formed in the box with its side wall 9 disposed inwardly from one side of the box for providing a spacing II so that the finger-engaging ends of the cosmetic tubes I2 may project into the spacing from the side wall 9 through which they are deposited.

The compartment 8 is provided with a top wall l0 which is disposed on a horizintal plane intermediate the height of the front wall I6 and the rear wall 23 of the box for forming a compartment I8 between the wall III and the top wall I9 of the lid 5 when the lid is closed.

The compartment I 8 is provided for the reception of a pair of containers 20, each being retained in a respective countersink formed in the wall I0, one of said containers being for the retention of face powder and the other for rouge.

As is conventional with the cosmetic tubes I2, each is provided with a tubular closure I3, said closures being horizontally secured in respective openings formed in the wall 9 of the compartment 8 and are extended in said compartment so that the respective tubes I2 can be readily invserted or withdrawn from their respective tubular closures I3. l

. An opening I5 is formed in the front wall I6 of the box 4 and secured in said opening at right angles to the cosmetic tubes I2, is a tube or sleeve I9 for the deposit of a hair comb I4, the comb being adapted to be withdrawn from the tube I1 when it is required for use.

The inner surface of the Wall I9 of the lid 5 is provided with a mirror 2| and the front wall 'I of the lid has a catch 22 for engagement with a cooperating part on the front wall I6 of the box for holding the lid in closed position on the box.

This improved cosmetic compact is carried in the handbag or the like of the user and it has been found to provide a handy beauty kit for ready use on account of the ease of access to the articles therein contained and particularly the cosmetic tubes I2 which can 'be readily engaged and withdrawn from their places of deposit in the compartment 8, and for their subsequent ready insertion for redepositing them in their respective closure tub-es I3, and in as much as the lid is provided with depending walls 1, the lid when closed on the box provides a complete Coverall for the articles contained therein, so that a smooth walled package is provided for insertion thereof in the handbag or the like of the user.

What I claim is:

1. A compact of a box-like structure having a hinged cover with depending Walls for covering the structure when the cover is in closed position thereon, and a compartment within the structure having an open side with a side wall disposed a distance inwardly from the open side of the structure for providing hand engaging space for engaging and withdrawing cosmetic tubes nested in the compartment through said side wall, said tubes having their hand engaging ends projected in the hand engaging space of the structure.

2. A compact of a box-like structure having a hinged cover with depending walls for covering the sides of the structure when the cover is closed thereon, and a compartment having an open, unobstructed side, and a side wall with a series of openings therein for sustaining a plurality of cosmetic tubes projected into said compartment, the side wall of said compartment being disposed a distance inwardly from one side of the structure for providing a hand inserting space for enabling grasping of the tubes for withdrawing them from said compartment through respective openings in said side Wall.

A rectangular Ibox-like structure having a reduced Width front Wall, and having one of its sides open and unobstructed With a side Wall disposed intermediate the width of the structure for providing finger inserting space in the structure outwardly of said intermediate Wall, said intermediate Wall having a series of openings for sustaining a like number of cosmetic tubes which are inserted therein from the nger inserting side of the structure, and a cover having depending Walls for covering the structure.

A cosmetic compact of box-like structure having a hinged cover with depending Walls for covering and enclosing the vertical Walls of the structure When the cover is in closed position thereon, and a compartment having a top wall With a plurality of recesses ior a plurality of containers, one of the vertical Walls of said structure being shorter in Width than its opposed Wall so as to form a recessed hand engaging space portion compartment, the vertical Wall at the recessed portion extending from one end of the shorter Wall to the opposed wall having a plurality of openings for nesting cosmetic tubes in the compartment.

A compart of box-like structure having a hinged cover with dependent Walls for covering the structure When the cover is in closed position thereon, and a compartment within the accommodating With the bottom Wal1 of the structure having an open, unobstructed side with a partition wall disposed inwardly from the open side of the structure, the front wall of the compartment being narrower than the back wall, and having the partition wall extending from one end of said front Wall perpendicular to the back Wall to permit easy insertion of cosmetic tubes through said partition Wall.
