. Claims. 1
This invention relates to a novel article which will appeal particularly to a child, and one which will preferably serve the dual purpose of a doll and a hand bag.
An object of the invention is to provide an article of the above kind which will assume and maintain a sitting posture. when placed on a horizontal surface and used as a doll.
A further object is to provide the article With shirring loops for closing the mouth of the bag, which loops may be used as carrying straps for the article and which resemble arms and hands for the (1011.
.A still further object is to provide an article of the above kind which is attractive, simple in construction and convenient to use.
Other objects and features of the invention will appear from the following description when considered with the accompanying drawing, in
which: I 7 v Figure 1 is a front perspective view of the article in closed condition to appear as a doll.
Figure 2 is a central vertical sectional view thereof. 3 1
Figure 3 is a horizontal section taken on the line 3--3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 with the v mouth of the bag in expanded or open condition. Figure 5 is a perspective View of the wire mem-- ber of the skeleton element and the base plate carrying the same, drawn-on a reduced scale.
Referring in detail to the drawings, 5 indicates a tubular dress-simulating element made of suitable fabric and preferably provided at the bottom with an attached ruffle B. Arranged within and projecting through and above the upper end of the element 5 is an upright skeleton element 1 which includes an elongated wire unit 8 having spaced legs 9 which terminate at their lower ends in horizontal feet In and formed at the top with a loop H. The unit 8 is preferably covered by spirally wrapping a strip of cloth tape I2 thereon. The feet Ill are suitably fastened at l3 on a rigid horizontal base plate l4. Front and rear extensions I5 and I6 are provided on the lower edge of the element 5, and these extensions are stitched together at I 1 and to the sides of said element to close the latter at the bottom. 'The base plate I4 is stitched at l8 upon these extensions or the bottom closure formed thereby. A face element l9 and a hat element 20 are sewed together to provide a hollow head which has a suitable filler 2| in which the loop H of the unit 8 is embedded to mount the head on the upper end of the skeleton element 1 with its lower portion extending into the upper end of the element 5. A pocket 22 is disposed within the element 5 and has the edge of its open upper end stitched to the'upper end of element 5 as at 23, except centrally of the back of said pocket where the latter is disposed in front of element 1 and attached at 24, together with a bow 25, to the lower end of the face element I9. A change purse 26 may be disposed inside and secured to the front part of pocket 22.
Guide loops 2! are secured to the element 5 at the front and back and a short distance below the top thereof, and oppositely disposed elongated cloth loops 28 pass around opposite sides of said element and through the guide loops 2'! to form shirring loops for closing the mouth of the bag and to provide straps for carrying the bag when closed. When the bag is closed, the portion of the element 5 above the adjacent portions of loops 28 resembles a waist portion for the dress, Hand elements 29 are attached to the loops 28 so that the latter resemble arms of the doll when the bag is closed.
' Le members 30 are attached at i! and [8 to the under side of base plate 14 and the extension I5. Each leg member 30 consists of a hollow cloth element having a filler 3|, except at the ends attached to base plate l4, whereby said leg member depends from and is freely movable forwardly or rearwardly. v
When the article is placed so that the bottom of the bag, at the base plate I4, is flatly disposed on a horizontal surface, it will remain in an upright position so as to resemble a doll in :a sitting posture. When the bag is closed, the loops 28 may be brought up over and behind the head of the doll and used as straps to carry the device. By'pulling forwardly and laterally on the front portion of element '5, the bag may be readily opened, and by pulling on the loops 28 at the hands 29, the bag may be easily closed.
From the foregoing description, the nature and manner of using the article will be apparent. Modifications and changes in construction are contemplated within the spirit of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is:
l.'In a doll, a tubular dress element closed at the bottom, a horizontal base plate secured on the bottom of said dress element, an upright skeleton element secured on the base plate and projecting through and above the upper end of said dress element, a head mounted on the projecting upper end of the skeleton element, and means con- 3 stricting the dress element :a short distance below its upper end.
2. In a doll, a tubular dress element closed at the bottom, a horizontal base plate secured on the bottom of said dress element, an upright skeleton element secured on the base plate and projecting through and above the upper end of said dress element, a head mounted on the projecting upper end of the skeleton element, means constricting the dress element a short distance below its upper end, and legs flexibly attached to the under side of the base plate at the front of the latter.
3. In a doll, a tubular dress element closed at the bottom, a horizontal base plate secured on the bottom of said dress element, an upright skeleton element secured on the base plate and projecting through and above the upper end of said dress element, a head mounted on theproe base plate secured on the bottom of said dress element, a skeleton element secured on said base plate and projecting through and above the upper end of said dress element, a head mounted on the projecting upper end of saidskeleton element, a pocket disposed within and attached at its upper open end to the upper end of said dress element except at the portion thereof centrally of the back of the same, said portion of the pocket being disposed in front of the skeleton element and attached to the front of the head at the .bottom of the latter, guide loops attached to the dress element a short distance below the top and at the front and back thereof, elongated flexible shirring loops passing about opposite sides of said dress element and through said guide loops to form arms for the doll and carrying straps for the bag when closed, and hands attached to said shirring loops.
5. A combined doll and hand bag comprising a tubular dress element closed at the bottom, a base plate secured on the bottom of said dress element, a skeleton element secured on said base plate and projecting through and above the upper end of said dress element, a, head mounted on the projecting upper end ofsaid skeleton element, a pocket disposed within and attached at its upper open end to the upper end of said dress element except at the portion thereof centrally of the back of the same, said portion of the pocket being disposed in front of the skeleton element and attached to the front of the head at the bottom of thev latter, guide loops attached to the dress element a short distance below the top and at the front and back thereof, elongated flexible shirring loops passing about opposite sides of said dress element and through said guide loops to form arms for the doll and carrying straps for the bagwhen closed, hands attached to said shirring loops, and legs flexibly attached to the under sideand at the front of said base plate.
