This invention relates to a binder particularly adapted to house frangible articles such as phonograph records.

It is an object of my invention to provide means for protecting such records against breakage when the binder is carelessly handled. It is a further object of my invention to provide a hinder or album with means for advantageously displaying one of the records withsuitable advertising matter.

Other objects of my invention will become apparent upon reading the following description, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which: 1

In the drawings, the reference numerals 2 and 3 indicate a pair of cover members connected by a flexible back member 4. Any suitable type of a hinge member may be provided between the back member 4 and the cover members 2 and 3, but the fabric hinge shown is preferred because of its simplicity and economy.

Each envelope is reinforced at its bottom edge with a filler strip 9 of paper board or similar material. The flap 8 is similarly reinforced with a. filler strip Ill. The binding strip 1 may be formed of a single strip of fabric properly folded, or may be formed of two strips of material with the flap portions glued to the filler strip It]. The fabric strips or juxtapositioned portions are glued together to form the flexible web 2!.

The outer ends or parts 22 and 23 of the fabric strip or connector are separated to form the U shaped channel member or yoke 24, the base of which is adapted to be seated on the intervening web 2| (Fig. 4). The lower reinforced ends of the envelopes are seated on the base portion of the yoke. While integral with the yoke, the web is substantially coextensive with the width of the channel and extends from one corner thereof and is integral with the margins of the connector, which defines a gap wherein the reinforcing eleembraces the plurality of envelopes stacked as is well understood in juxtaposition or in super imposed relation and secured together by a suitable adhesive. By the arrangement disclosed the yoke together with the secured envelopes may be tilted relative to the web and the latter in respect to the secured reinforced portion appropriately fastened to the cover 3 as is well understood. The flap 8 is secured to the cover member 3 by means of a plurality of rivets Ii. .The outer surface of the cover member 3 is countersunk, as indicated at l2, so that the heads I3 of the rivets ll do not project beyond the outer surface of the cover member.

1 The envelopes '5 are each glued adjacent the bottom ends 6 up to the line indicated by the reference numeral 14 to provide a flexible hinge between the inner edge of the filler strip 9 and the bottom of the record receiving pocket. Each envelope 5 is provided adjacent its open upper edge with a pair of notches l5 and l 6 to facilitate removal of the records from the envelopes. The envelopes are each provided with a central cut out portion I! in each face so that the title of each record may readily be seen.

The open ends of the record holding envelopes are contiguous to the back member 4 so that when the binder is closed the back member acts as a closure for the envelopes and the records are securely held within their respective envelopes without danger of dropping out of the binder if the binder is carelessly handled. As shown in Figure 1, the binder may be stood on the ends of the cover members in easel fashion with the top record holding envelope in display position. In this position any desired advertising matter which is printed on the front surface of the top envelope, as indicated at I8, is prominently exposed.

Although I have described two preferred embodiments of. my invention in detail, it will be understood that the description thereof is illustrative, rather than restrictive, as many details may be modified or changed without departing from the spirit or scope of my invention. Accordingly, I do not desire to be restricted to the exact construction described, except as limited by the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a binder, a cover member, a stack of envelope means having reinforcing filler means at the lower ends thereof, a connector interposed between said cover member and envelope means and embodying a yoke having spaced parts envelope means having reinforcing filler means at the lower ends thereof, a connector interposed between said cover member and envelope means and embodying a substantially U shaped yoke comprising spaced parts straddling said envelope means and having a base on which said ends are seated and constituting with said parts a channel ior receiving said lower ends, said connector comprising spaced margins defining an elongated gap, reinforcing means within said gap and secured to and straddled by said margins and characterizing and constituting hinge means to provide for bodily tiltable displacement of said envelope means and yoke relative to said weband the latter relative to said reinforced portion, and means securing said reinforced portion to said cover member.

In a binder, a cover member, a stackofenvelope means having reinforcing filler means at the lower ends thereof, a, connector interposed between said cover member and envelope means and embodying a yoke having spaced parts straddling and secured to said envelopemeans and constitutin a channel for receiving; said lower ends, said connector comprising spaced margins definingan elongated gap, reinforcing means within said gap and secured to. said margins and characterizing therewith a reiniorced portion, said connector having juxtapositionedand secured portions integral with said yoke and between said channel and reinforced portion and defining, a flexible web. extending from one corner of said yoke, and substantially coextensive, the

In a, binder, a cover memb.er,a. stack of therewith a reinforced portion, said connector having juxtapositioned and secured companion portions integral with said yoke and reinforced portion and defining a flexible web projecting from one corner of said yoke and substantially coextensive with the width of said channel and constituting hinge means to provide for bodily tiltable displacement of said envelope means and yoke relative to said web, and means securing said reinforced portion to said cover member.
