Description

` Oct. 21, 1947. K. STUPELL I CIGARETTE CASE OR THE LIKEV Filed Junefzl, 1945 INVENTOR Leo VK. 5i Pell ATTORNEYS Patented Oct. 21, 1947 UNITED STATES FTENT OFFICE CIGARETTE CASE R THE LIKE,
Leo K. Stupell, New York, N. Y. Application .lune 21, 1945, Serial No. 600,799
Claims. l
This invention relates to improvements in cigarette cases-and has for its object the provision of an improved cigarette case made of a combination of synthetic plastic and metal, simple in construction, iight in weight, easy to open, and which will provide an efficient container for cigarettes and the like.
Further objects will be apparent from the specication and drawings in which,
Fig. l is a top plan view of my improved cigarette case,
Fig. 2 is a side view thereof,
Fig, 3 is a sectional View along line 3 3 of Fig. l.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view along the line 4-4 of Fig. l,
Fig. 5 is a front plan View, and i Fig. 6 is a plan view of the rear of the case.
Fig. 7 is a fragmentary section along the lines 1-1 of Fig. 4.
In the drawings, the numeral I0 indicates the metal frame of my improved cigarette case, H being the line of meeting of the ends of the frame, l2 is the bottom flange of the frame I@ which is integral therewith, this flange receiving the bottom or base of the case made of plastic I3.
I4 indicates the plastic top on which is positioned the metal reinforcement l5 having the rear flange i5 and the front flange 2t which also acts as the closing element of the case, said part 2@ engaging the small metal protuberance 2l.
l1 indicates the hinge of the case which is shown in Figs. 1 and 6, the hinge consisting of iive cylindrical members shown joined by the pin Il'b. It should be noted that of the ve hinge elements, the two end elements and the intermediate element are formed integral with the metal reinforcement Ila on the rear of the case and the other two intermediate elements of the hinge are formed integral with the continuation of the top member I5.
i9 more clearly shown in Fig. 4 are lugs integral with the rear plate lla and which join this plate to the main metal frame l0.
It will be noted that the meta1 frame of the case apart from the pivot pin llb is made up by three metal parts only, one the rectangular frame IS, two the top meta1 reinforcing piece i5, from the ends of which part oi the hinge Il is constituted, three, the rear supporting piece lla, the two end portions of the hinge and the middle section being integral with the plate Via.
Lugs i8 are formed upon the plate l5 as shown to securely fasten this plate to the top plastic member I4.
It will be seen from this form of construction that a cigarette case is formed which is compact and sturdy havingy asfew partsas possible and capable of withstanding continued use andstrain.
In the drawing, the topmiddle plate i5 (see Fig. l) is shown without ornamentation, but without weakening the case this plate i5 can be readily perforated to show one or a series of initials clearly adding to the decorative eiect of the same.
It is apparent that further modications can be made in this construction without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
l. A cigarette case or similar container consisting of a rectangular metal frame forming the side walls of the case and having an integral bottom flange, a bottom for said case held in place by said bottom ange, a top for said case, a meta1 plate mounted on the outer surface of the top, and an auxiliary rear plate adjoining the ends of the rectangular frame, one end of Said metal plate constituting a closing element together with a registering integral part of the metal frame, the other end of the meta1 plate constituting part of the hinge element for the top of the case, said auxiliary rear plate having integral parts forming part of said hinge element.
2. A cigarette case or similar container consisting of a. rectangular metal frame forming the side walls of the case and having an integral bottom fiange, a plastic bottom for said case held in place by said bottom flange, a plastic top for said case, a metal plate mounted on the outer surface of the top, and an auxiliary rear plate adjoining the ends of the rectangular frame, one end of said meta1 plate constituting a closing element together with a registering integral part of the metal frame, the other end of the metal plate ccnstituting part ci the hinge element for the top of the case, said auxiliary rear plate having integral parts forming part of said hinge element.
3. A cigarette case or the like consisting of a rectangular metal frame having its ends meeting in the rear of said case, forming the side walls of the case, and having an integral bottom flange, a plastic bottom for said case held in place by said bottom ange, a plastic top for said case, a rectangular metal plate mounted on the outer surface of the top, and an auxiliary rear plate adjoining the ends of the rectangular frame, one end of said metal plate constituting a closing element together with a registering integral part of the meta1 frame, the other end of the metal plate constituting part of the hinge element for the top of the case, said auxiliary rear plate having integral parts forming part of said hinge element.
4. A cigarette case or the like consisting of a rectangular metal frame having its ends meeting in the rear of said case, forming the side walls of the case, and having an integral bottom flange, a plastic bottom for said case held in place by said bottom ilange, a plastic top for said case, a rectangular metal plate mounted on the outer surface of the top, and an auxiliary rear plate adjoining the ends of the rectangular frame, one end of said metal plate constituting a closing element together with a registering integral part of the metal frame, the other end of the metal plate constituting part of the hinge element for the top of the case, said auxiliary rear plate having integral parts forming part of said hinge element, said rectangular metal plate being provided with one or more cut-outs to form initials on said case.
5. A cigarette case or the like consisting of a. rectangular metal frame having its ends meeting in the rear of said case, forming the side Walls of the case, and having an integral bottom ange, a plastic bottom for said case held in place by said bottom ange, a plastic top for said case, a submetal plate partially covering the plastic top.
