My invention relates to a holder for flat irons and has for its principal objects, to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive holder, and to mount same on an ironing board so as to conveniently receive and hold a fiat iron at the end or side of the board and further, to mount the holder on the board so that it may be readily swung into and secured in an out-of-the-way position beneath the board while the latter is not in use or While in storage or transportation.

A further object of my invention is, to provide simple and eflicient means for securing the holder in its out of service position beneath the ironing board.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:

Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the holder in position for use on the end of an ironing board.

Fig. 2 is a view looking against the underside of an ironing board and showing the holder applied thereto.

Fig. 3 is a detail vertical section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 5 is an enlarged section similar to Fig. 4 and showing the holder positioned and secured in its out of service position beneath the board.

Fig. 7 is an elevational view taken looking in the direction of the arrow l in Fig. 5.

Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing which illustrates a preferred embodiment of my invention, designates the holder which is preferably formed of sheet metal contoured to correspond with the shape of a conventional flat iron and said holder comprising a flat bottom plate I I and upstanding marginal wall l2, the latter being provided on its upper edge with a 'bead IS.

The holder is mounted at either end or side of an ironing board such as B by means of spaced hinges M, which are arranged so that the holder may be swung into position beneath the board as illustrated in Fig. 5.

manipulating said rail and one of the keepers I5 and a block it, secured to the under side of the board, serve as stops to limit the movement of the rail in both directions.

To secure the holder in position beneath the ironing board, a strap l9 composed of a series of metal plates or links hinged to each other, is employed. At one end of this strap the link or plate terminates in a hook 20 which is adapted to engage a pin 2| on one of the keepers l5 and the link at the other end of the strap is provided with an inverted key hole shaped aperture 22 which detachably engages the headed end of a pin or bolt 23, the latter being seated in the edge of the board (see Fig. 7).

There is sufficient lateral play between the links of the strap I!) to enable hook 20 to be slipped onto and off pin 2|, even while the opposite end of said belt is applied to pin 23.

If desired, a conventional link chain may take the place of the flexible strap l9. When in use during ironing operations the holder and associated parts occupy the positions as illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 and when folded into an out of service position, the parts are disposed as illustrated in Fig. 5.

Thus it will be seen that I have'provided a flat Y iron holder attachment for ironing boards which is simple in structure, inexpensive of manufacture and very effective in performing the functions for which it is intended.

It will be understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved flat iron holder may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the spirit of the invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claim.

I claim as my invention:

Securing means for a flat iron holder hinged to the end of an ironing board. comprising a strap composed of a plurality of flexibly connected links disposed lengthwise, beneath the end of the ironing board on which the fiat iron holder is mounted, the free end of the link at the outer end of the strap being provided with a key hole shaped opening adapted to receive a headed pin on the end of the ironing board, a keeper secured to the underface of the ironing board inwardly from its end, a transversely disposed pin secured at one end to and spaced apart from said keeper and a hook formed on the free end of the link at the inner end of the strap, for detachably engaging said pin and thereby secure the strap in position beneath the flat iron holder when same is positioned beneath the ironing board.
