Fl 5 M Patented Feb. 28, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The invention as described herein, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, consistsof a resuscitating table and has for an object to provide a portable table of this nature.
Another object of the invention is to provide an adjustable resuscitating table.
A further object of this invention is toprovide .a collapsible table which may 'be folded into a relatively small compact space and carried "sim- .ilar to a suitcase.
A primary object of this invention is the provision of means whereby persons, as in the army, in accidents or anywhere afield and in a comal condition may be placed on any emergency table treated without waiting for them to beitransported to a hospital.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawings in which:
Figure l is a side elevational view of my improved resuscitating table;
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof;
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view, the legs being removed;
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of a keeper; and
Figure 5 is a perspective view of an element referred to hereinafter as a bearing plate.
While one embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the above referred to drawings, it is to be understood that they are merely for the purpose of illustration and that various changes in construction may be resorted to in the course of manufacture in order that the invention may be utilized to the best advantage according to circumstances which may arise, without in any way departing from the spirit and intention of the device, which is to be limited only in accordance with the appended claims. And while there is stated the primary field of utility of the invention it remains obvious that it may be employed in any other capacity wherein it may be found applicable.
In the accompanying drawings, and in the following specification, the same reference characters are used to designate the same parts and elements throughout and in which [0 refers to the invention and H indicates an operating table formed in three sections l2, l3 and H. The end section I3 is connected to the center section l4, by means of a piano-like hinge I5, and is adapted to be folded flat upon the section M. The end section II is connected to section I4, by a double hinge I 6, in order that said section may overlie both sections l4 and i3, and when so folded a hook ill, attached to member 1, may be caught in an eye IS, on section l2,where- -by all three members l2, l3 and I4 maybe secured in a compact parcel of about three met in length and carried by a handle l9 attached to edge d0 of section 14.
On the underside "20 of member l4 and cen- *trally "disposed is a bearing plate 2|, provided with'prodecting pirrtles 22 and 23, to which are "pivotally connected leg sections 24 "and 25, 26
and 21, respectively, to *each set of which is connected telescopically 'u-shaped leg sections 28 and 29, which may 'be adjusted for height and dined thy Wmgnuts '30 and 31, orwvhioh may be run up to the section l4, and folded thereunder when the device is collapsed.
Pivoted to the under edges 32 and 33 of section I4 are straps 34 and 35, which are adapted to be swung under the offset ends 35 and 31 of keepers 38 and 35, fixed respectively to the inner edges 40 and 4| of sections I2 and I3 of the table I I, whereby when the same is extended for use the said several sections of the table will be held rigid relative to one another. A cable 42 has its ends connected to eyes 43 and 44, on the lower ends 45 and 46 of the said leg sections 28 and 29, to hold the same from spreading apart when the table is set up. A filler strip 41 is attached to the intermediate plate 48, between the leaves 49 and 50 of the said hinge member I5.
Section I2, of the table is provided with spaced apertures 5| and 52, for receiving straps (not shown) for securing a patients arms and the section I3 is provided with double sets of apertures 53 and 54, 55 and 56, through means of which the legs and ankles of a patient may be strapped to the table.
The above equipment has been designed for carrying out the "Eve" method of artificial respiration which requires that a drowning patient be placed upon a fiat surface of suflicient length and secured thereto and then placed upon a fulcrum, inclined with head down until all water is drained out, then rocked alternately on a 45 to 50 angle and at a schedule of ten double rocks per minute until breathing becomes normal or the patient pronounced dead by a physician.
In drowning cases quick action is essential and hospitalization is out of the question. The above described device can be operated at the place of theidrowning and is such that the apparatus maybe set up in a moment or two.
From the foregoing specification it will become apparent that the invention disclosed will adequately accomplish the functions for which it has been designed and in an economical manher and that its simplicity, accuracy and ease of operation are such as to provide a relatively inexpensive device considering what it will accomplish and that it will find an important place in the art to which it appertains when once placed on the market.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Changes in shape, size and rearrangement oi details and parts such as come within the purview of the invention claimed may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.
Having now described the invention that which is claimed to be new and desired to be procured by Letters Patent is:
l. A portable table for use in practicing the Eve method of resuscitation, comprising a center section, two end sections, hinges connecting the end sections with the center section, said sections being extensible to comprise an elongated platform, means to pivotally support the center section so that all three sections may be rocked together. said means comprising a bearing plate secured to and extending across the center section, pintles on the ends of said plate and collapsible legs pivotally securable to said pintles.
2. A portable table for use in practicing the Eve method of resuscitation, comprising a cenbetween said pairs of leg sections to prevent transverse spreading of the legs, and a flexible cable secured to and between said ground contacting sections to prevent longitudinal spreading of the legs.
