Description
Feb. 2L 95@ H. E. DAVIDSON LADIESI BLOUSE Filed Feb. l5, 1949 Patented Feb. 21, 1950 `UNITED STATES PATE-Nr orrlcafA LADYS BLoUsE Harold E. Davidson, Quantico, Va. Application February 15, 1949, serial No. 76,451
2 Claims. 1 ff This invention relates to ladies blouses, and more particularly to a tailored blouse having special fullness in the bust region of the front portion thereof.
It is among the objects of the invention to pro vide an improved tailored blouse of neat and attractive appearance having a specially constructed front providing extra fullness at each side of the center in the region of the bust, which is of especially strong and durable construction, easy and economical to manufacture, and has a specially constructed waist to resist pulling out of a skirt band and to conceal the skirt band and portion of the blouse received in the skirt band.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the following description and the appended claims in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the back of the blouse;
Figure 2 is an elevation of the front of the blouse;
Figure 3 is a cross-section of the line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a cross-section on the line 4 4 of Figure 2;
Figure 5 is an elevation of a fragmentary side portion of the blouse showing the belt in open condition; and
Figure 6 is a cross-section on the line 5 6 of Figure 2.
With continued reference to the drawing, the blouse has two back panels II! and II, the adjacent edges of which overlap and are provided with suitable fastening means, such as the buttons I2 secured to one of the panels, and the buttonholes I3 provided in the other panel adjacent the edge thereof. Downwardly-tapered .pleats I4 and I5 extend from the top edges of the respective panels Ill and II substantially halfway between the outer end of the top edges of these panels, and the inner ends of such edges at the adjoining endsof the neck opening to provide fullness in the back panels at the lower ends of these pleats for freedom of arm and shoulder movements of the wearer. In the front, as illustrated in Figure 2, the blouse has a yoke i6 provided in its upper edge with the front .portion I1 of the neck opening, and has at its bottom a downwardlyextending portion I8 immediately below the neck opening. A generally rectangular centerpiece-l9 is secured at its top edge to the bottom edge of the depending portion I8 of the yoke andV constitutes a downward continuation ofl the yoke, and two side panels 20 and 2| are disposed `at respectively opposite sides of the vcenterpiece I9,
The two side panels 20 and 2|v are secured by suitable seams along their adjacent edges tothe corresponding side edges of the centerpiece I9, and are gathered along the centerpiece, particularly near the upper end of the latter, as indicated at 22. These side panels are also secured to the lower edge of the front yoke I 6 by respective seams which curve upwardly and outwardly from the corresponding upper corners of the centerpiece I9, as indicated at 23. The two side panels are secured along their remote edges to the corresponding edges of the respective back panels II and I0, and each side panel is provided with a respective pleat 24 which extends from the seam between the respective side panel and the corresponding back panel toward the centerpiece, these pleats 24' being disposed at the lower edge of the bust region of the blouse, inclined slightly upwardly and inwardly and tapering toward the centerpiece I 9, to give eXtra fullness in that portion of each side panel above the inner end of the respective pleat.
The back panels, side panels and yoke I6 are shaped to provide armholes at the opposite ends of the yoke extending downwardly below the top edges of the side panels, and sleeves 25 and 26 are secured at their shoulder ends to the corresponding end edges of the yoke I6 and to the side and back panels. These sleeves are made full to their lower or outer ends and are there gathered into respective cuff bands 2'! which are dimensioned to lbutton snugly around the wrist of the wearer.
The back panels I0 and I I, and the side panels 20 and 2I are gathered around the waistline of the blouse near the lower ends of these panels, as indicated at 28, and a belt 29 is secured at its top edge to the back and side panels, and to the centerpiece I9 around the waistline of the garment by a seam 30 with the lower portion of the garment extending substantially through the belt, as indicated at 3 I, in Figure 5.
The belt 29 is wide in proportion to the length of the jacket and may be upwardly tapered from both sides toward the -center to provide a peak 32 at the center of the centerpiece I9, and is divided at one side and provided with overlapping ends which carry suitable fasteners, such as the hooks 33 and eyes 34.
The curved shape of the seams 23, the gathering or tucks 22 and the pleats or tucks 24, as well as the gathering 28 of the bottom edges of the side panels 20 and 2|, into the belt 29, give an outwardly-extendible fullness to the upper center portions of these side panels which fullness is disposed at opposite sides of the centerpiece I9 and in the bust region of the garment.
When the garment is worn the lower portion 3| within the belt 29 will normally be placed inside of a skirt band, and is of suicient length to resist pulling out of the skirt band, and the wide belt 29 will overlie the skirt band and conceal the skirt band and the portion of the blouse received therein.
The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics thereof. The present embodiment is, therefore, to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description, and all changes which come within the meaning and range of equivalency of the claims are, therefore, intended to be embraced therein.
What is claimed is:
1. A ladys blouse comprising two back panels overlapping at their adjacent edges and provided with fastening means, a front yoke secured along `its top edge to the top edges of said back panels :n
and having a neck opening therein adjacent the mid-length location of said top edge, a centerpiece secured at its top edge to the lower edge of said yoke at the mid-length location of said lower edge, two side panels secured along their top edges to the bottom edge of said yoke, along their adjacent side edges to the corresponding edges of said centerpiece and along their remote side edges to the corresponding side edges of said back panels, and respective sleeves secured at their shoulder ends to connected back and side panels and to the opposite ends of said yoke, the seams between the upper edges of said side panels and the bottom edge of said yoke being curved upwardly and outwardly from the top end of said centerpiece, said side panels being gathered along said centerpiece and having between their top and bottom edges respective pleats extending from the seams between said side and back panels toward said centerpiece and tapering toward said centerpiece.
2. A ladys blouse comprising two back panels overlapping at their adjacent edges and provided with fastening means, a front yoke secured along its top edge to the top edges of said back panels, a centerpiece secured at its top edge to the lower edge of said yoke, two side 'panels disposed at respectively opposite sides of said centerpiece secured along their adjacent side edges to said centerpiece, along their top edges to the bottom edge of said yoke and along their remote side edges to the adjacent edges of corresponding back panels, and respective sleeves secured at their shoulder ends to opposite edges of said yoke and to adjacent side edges of corresponding side and back panels, said side and back panels being gathered around the Waistline of said blouse, and a wide belt secured at its top edge to said panels around the waistline of said blouse and receiving the lower portions of said panels therein.
