ADJUSTABLE MIRROR OR PICTURE HOLDER Filed May 14, 1946 7J- 57j. Z9
I INVENTOR. Un on rfc-aromi? za/m Z- MM ATTORNEYS Patented Feb. 14, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ADJUSTABLE MIRROR OR PICTURE HOLDER 1 Claim. l This invention relates to picture fra-mes and more particularly to an extensible mirror or plcture holder.
An object of this invention is to provide a mirror or picture holder having an upper and lower picture retaining member and a spring pressed telescopic post connecting the retaining members together in such a manner that the members may be pulled apart so a mirror or picture may be inserted between them and then by releasing the members the spring pressed post pulls the members into engagement with the upper and lower edges of the mirror or picture.
With the above land other objects in view, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawings and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings, wherein similar reference characters designate similar parts throughout the respective views,
Figure l is a front elevation of a picture holder constructed according to an embodiment of my invention,
Figure 2 is a side elevation of Figure l,
Figure 3 is a horizontal section taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral i6 designates the base of a mirror or picture holder constructed according to `an embodiment of my invention. The base I6 is formed of an elongated U-shaped channel section having upwardly extending arms the forward arm being shorter than the rear and bent forwardly at a slight angle so that the lower edge of a picture or mirror may be inserted into the channel base I6. To support the holder above a table or desk, I have provided a pair of spherical legs or balls I7 iixed to the lower side of the channel base near each end thereof which may be fixed thereto by soldering or other suitable fastening means.
A tube 48 fixed to the lower member I6 is formed at the upper end with inwardly extending flanges 49 providing an apertured top for the tube 48. The rod 50 extending downwardly from the upper member 26 is smaller in relation to the tube 48 than the rod 25 is in relation to the tube I8 and is slidable in the tube 48 through the apertured top thereof. A washer l is located about the rod `50 within the tube 48 and is prevented from sliding ofi the rod by the split or bifurcated 2 lower ends 52 thereof. A spring 54 about the rod 50 within the tube 48 engages the lower side of the flanged top of the tube 48 and the upper side of the washer 5| on the rod 50 for constantly urging the rod 50 downwardly and the members I6 and 25 to clamping position.
The upper clamping member 26 has xed thereto a decorative scroll 29 which may be grasped to pull the members :26 and I=6 apart for inserting the mirror or picture and the spring then urges the members 26 and ,I6 together.
I do not mean to confine myself to the exact details of construction herein disclosed, but `claim al1 variations falling within the purview of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A picture holding device of the kind described, comprising an elongated U-shaped base channel member, a rectangular tube fixed at its lower end to said base member, inwardly extending flanges on the upper end of said tube, an elongated inverted U-shaped upper clamping member and spring-pressed means for urging said clamping member towards said base member for holding a picture therebetween, said means including a rectangular rod fixed at one end to said upper member, said rod being slidable in said tube, a washer about said rod lwithin said tube, said rod formed with a bifurcated lower end for holding said washer from sliding from said rod, and a spring about said rod within said tube engageable with the upper side of said washer and the lower side of said iianges for constantly urging said clamping member downwardly.
