My invention relates to improvements in continuous spinning and twisting machines of the type in which the feed rollers are driven at a speed in direct proportion to the count of the yarn and has for its object to render more easy the control of the twist.
According to the present invention, feed rollers and spindles are driven in parallel from a common shaft through two variable speed devices positively coupled by their control wheels so that a shaft driven by one variable speed device rotates at maximum speed when a shaft driven by the other variable speed device rotates at a minimum speed.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic end elevation of a spinning frame.
Figure 2 is a transverse section of same.
Sliver is fed to the feed rollers l' driven by a following drawing roller 2 through a gear train 6, l, 8, 9, I0, I! and [2 with a series of change wheels 9 from a motor drivenshaft I3 driving a shaft 28 in a variable speed device I8.
A table indicates the pinion 9 or change sprocket to be employed for obtaining a predetermined feed roller speed less than that of the drawing roller 2 to give the required draft to the yarn.
The spindle 3 is also positively driven from the motor shaft I3 through a further positive transmission 3! driving a fluted drum ortin roller 32 over which spindle bands 3l driving the spindles 3 pass. A shaft 29 in a variable speed device It) is geared to a shaft 22 The drive for the feed tothe spindles comprises a chain l4 passing over sprockets l5, l6 and over a tension sprocket l1 and driving shaft 83 coupled to the shaft 28. The rotary drive for the spindles comprises achain 20 passing over sprockets 2l2l and tension sprocket 23 driving the shaft 22 The drive for the drawing rollers 2 and the spindles 3 are thus positively coupled together in parallel from the motor shaft l3.
In the variable speed device [8, the driving shaft 16 and the driven shaft 28 are in relation together through the medium of an intermediary shaft 3 3 on which is fixed a control wheel 25 and carrying an indicator disc 21 cooperating with an index 33.
In the variable speed device IS, the driving shaft 22 and the driven shaft '29 are in relation shaft 35 on which is keyed a control wheel 24 bodily connected with an indicator disc 36.
The two variable speed devices Iii-l9 are coupled together permanently by their control wheels 24-45 through a positive transmission constituted by a crossed belt 26. V 1
Therefore when the indicator disc of one of the variable speed devices is operated, for example the disc 2'! which may be bodily connected with the control wheel 25, a maximum speed will be obtained for the driven shaft 28 with a minimum speed for the driven shaft 29 and viceversa. I
The variable speed devices 18 and I9 may be of any suitable kind. The connection between shaft I6 28 and '22 --29 respectively may be con.- stituted for instance by a system of belts and expansible or extensible pulleys.
It therefore follows that the indicator disc 21 (Fig. 1) will give at the commencement of the graduations of that speedgear a maximum feed for a minimum number of turns of the spindles; that operation of the disc in the direction of .the graduations from the index 33 will decrease the feed and at the same time increasethe number of rotations of the spindles. At the end of the operation when the index 33 will'bereached with the last graduation, the feed will be a minimum and the number of rotations of the spindles a maximum.
In other words these two variables are none other than the quotient determining the theoretical twist given 'by the ratio:
Theoretical twist number of turns per minute of the spindle feed in metres minutes The disc 21 may therefore he graduated directly in terms of twist.
By suitable angular displacement of the graduations from their theoretical position the disc 21 may be inscribed directly in actual twist very closely this twist being given by the ratio: Actual twist:
number of turns of 'the'thread'about itself number of metresof thread twisted The arrangement according to the invention thus does away with the series of revolution counters and tachometers which are necessary in the known modern constructions as hereinbefore described this omission enabling the control heads for the twist to be eliminated.
The optimum speed of production will be given together through the medium of an intermediary 56, by the motor shaft [3 (Fig. 1).
In the arrangement according to the present invention, the end of the drawing roller 2 may be coupled by means of a belt 31 with a pulley 38 keyed on a shaft 39 carrying a tachometer T.
combined with a totalizing revolution counter and a secondary zero resetting means.
