This invention relates to frames for supporting garments upon the body of a wearer. More particularly, the invention deals with a supporting frame comprising a pair of curved breast encircling portions integrally joined by a yieldable bridging portion with means attached to the curved breast encircling portions for attaching the frame to a garment .or for providing detachable mounting of the frame in connection with a garment, the last named means also having means for detachably coupling the frame therewith. The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed, and in which the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views; and in which:

In connection with supports of the kind under consideration, it has been the common practice to have the frame or supporting element built directly into the garment, such as a brassire or other type of garment by constructing the garment to provide a channel therein for detachable mounting of the frame in the garment. In other instances, the supporting frame has had a permanent mounting in connection with the garment,

The purpose of my invention is to provide as an article of manufacture, a supporting frame having means as a part .of the frame whereby the same may be attached to, or detachably supported in conjunction with a garment of any type or kind. In this manner, frames of the kind under consideration can be sold direct to the garment manufacturer for mounting in garments of difi'erent types and kinds, or the said frame with the mounting member thereon may be sold at retail for purchase by the consumer for attachment in garments of various kinds and classses. In this connection, it will be understood that the frames will be made in sizes to suit three or four general body sizes, such for example, as small, medium, large and extra large, as well as to provide in such sizes frame curvatures preferably of small, medium and large to adapt the frame for breast sizes equivalent to what are generally known as A, B and cups or pockets, for example, in the sale of brassires.

In Fig. 1 of the drawing, I have shown one form of frame or supporting element which I employ. This frame generally identified by the reference character l0, comprises two similar curved loop portions or members lll I terminating in inturned ends l2-l2'. Inner end portions .of the loops Il-H' have downwardly extending substantially straight portions I3l3' terminating at their lower ends in loops |4-l4', the latter being coupled by anupwardly extending bridge spring coupling loop l5, joining the loops l4l4' in shoulder portions I6l6'. At I1 is shown a plastic or similar tube or sleeve protecting the central portion of the frame, and particularly the loop I5 thereof.

Arranged upon the frame l0 and primarily the curved loop portions l l-l I and ends l3l3' including the loops l4l4, are mounting strips or bands I8l8, one of which is shown in section in Fig. 2 of the drawing. These strips or bands simply comprise a strip of cushioning material folded upon itself and stitched together, as indicated at l9-l9', to form elongated channels therein, as indicated at 20-20, in which the wire frame parts are arranged. The outer ends .of the channels 20-20' are sealed by transverse stitchings, as at 2I2l'.

In actual production, the strips or bands are preferably attachable and detachable with respect to the loop end portions of the frame so that the merchant, in the sale of a frame to a consumer, can apply strips or bands of color suitable to the garment to which the frame is to be attached.

Frames of the kind illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawing are adapted for stitching directly to a garment in providing a supporting frame for the central breast portion of the garment, it being apparent that the curved loops ll--l I are adapted for arrangement about, or to partially encircle the breast portions .of the garment. y

In Fig. 3 of the drawing, I have shown a slight modification wherein a frame l0 generally similar to the frame Ill is employed, and instead of providing plain mounting strips or bands,as seen at I 8-18 in Fig. 1, I employ on each side portion of the frame, bands such as the band 22, shown in Fig. 3', formed in cross section, similar to that shown in Fig. 2 by stitching, as at 23 and inwardly of the stitching and on the inner edge portion 24 of the band are arranged at suitable spaced intervals fastener devices, as at 25, preferably in the form of the male elements of what are generally known as snap fasteners.

In this way, and by securing to a garment companion female snap fastener elements in position for alinement with the elements 25, the

frame may be detachably supported in the garment, particularly in laundering or otherwise cleaning the garment, Here again the band or mounting strip 22 is made attachable and detachable with respect to the loop end portions of the frame. For example, the loop 26, shown in Fig. 3, including the downward extension 21 and the lower curved or loop portion 28, difiers from the structure shown in Fig. 1, in that it is disposed in spaced relation to the curved portion 21 and thus brings the inner end of the frame to a position adjacent the shoulder 29 of the frame where the central spring loop or bridging member 30 joins the two frame sides. At 3| is shown the plastic or other protector sleeve on the loop 30.

Returning now to Fig. 1, it will appear that the loops l 4 extend into the channels 20-20 through openings, as at 3232 in detachable coupling of the straps I8-I8' therewith. In other words, in Fig. 1, the mounting strips or hands I8l8' are detached after the loops I l-l4 have been passed out through the openings 32-32.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
