(Cl. 248-257) t The present invention relates t adjustable supports for holders for curtainand draperypoles, cornices, shade-rollers etc.

The object of the invention is to provide a support of this kind of small size and neat appearance and capable of being used in connection with practically all types ofvholders on the market so that once the support has been fastened to the wall or wood-work surrounding a window or door opening it may permanently remain in its place and need not be removed or replaced by another support if it is desired to change the type of holders used. This feature-is of considerable importance for instance in apartment houses where successive tenants usually have holders of different types necessitating the making of new holes for the fastening screws or nails whereby the wall or wood-work is mutilated. f

For the explanation of the invention reference` is had to the accompanying drawing which shows a preferred form of the newA support, and where- 1n:

The support shown which is the left hand support of a pair of such supports comprises a base plate I of rectangular shape in which two substantially parallel and vertical channels 2 and 3 are depressed from the rear side of the plate. In each of said channels a longitudinal slot 4 and 5, respectively, is provided through which two screws 6, 6 and 1, 1', respectively, extend. The screws are carried by square nuts 8, Il' and 9, 9', respectively, which are slidably mounted in the channel- shaped depressions 2 and 3 but are prevented from turning therein.

The screws 6, 6 may be used for instance for securing a curtainor drapery-pole holder to the support I and the screws 1, 1' may be used in a similar manner for securing a cornice holder. Such holders are generally provided with two or four perforations for fastening the same to the wood-work by means of screws or nails, and by adjusting the distance between the screws in each of the pairs 6, 6 and 1, 1 on the support this distance may be made to correspond to the distance between two of the aforesaid perforations in the holders whereby holders of almost every type may be firmly secured to the support I, Furthermore, the holders may be individually adjusted in vertical direction before the screws i6, 6 and 1, 1 are tightened.

For securing a cornice holder in the shape of a bracket of the type having a single perforation at the outer end of each leg two lug's I0, I0' are cut out from the plate I at the upper end of the right hand channe1-3 and these lugs are bent upwardly and inwardly towards each other as shown in Fig. 3, so as to form a guide for one leg of the bracket which after having been inserted into the guide is secured to the support by means of one of the screws 1, 1 by passing this screw throughthe single perforation at `the lower end of the leg and then tightening the same. Y

The channel- shaped depressions 2 and 3 are of such length as to end at some distance from the lower edge of the base plate I .which is bent up, as shown at I I, to serve as a guide for a transversely slidable shade-roller bracket I 2, I3, lon leg I2 of which has a longitudinal slot I4 through whichascrew I5 extends which may be inserted into either one of two threaded perforations I6 and I1 provided in the base plate I adjacent the opposite vertical edges of the same and at a distance from each other which corresponds to the length of the slot I4. Thus, from the position shown in Fig. 1 thefshade-roller bracket may be moved to the right ay distance equal to the length of the slot I4,rv and by inserting the'screw I5 into the other threaded perforation I1 the bracket may be moved an equal distance to the left. By reversing the bracket so that the projecting leg I3 thereof will be at the left hand of the screw I5 further adjustment is possible for accommodating shade-rollers of greatly varying lengths. As shown in Fig. 4 the projecting leg I3 of the shade-roller bracket is provided with two slots I8 and I9 extending inwardly from opposite edges of the same and serving to support the square shade-roller spindle in the above-mentioned different positions of the bracket.

From the position shown in Fig. 1 the shaderoller bracket may also be turned about an axis parallel to the leg I2 so that the other leg I3 will project into the window opening adjacent n the corresponding edges of the support I, as shown at 2| and 22, this plate 20 being adapted to cover wholly or in part the channel- shaped depressions 2 and 3 so as to keep the nuts 8, 8' and 9, 9 therein in correct position.

Different changes in the details of construction may be resorted to withqutldepartngzfl'om the scope of the appended claims. Thus, .instead of having the nuts 8, 8' and 9, 9 slidably mounted in the channel- shaped depressions 2 and 3 the screws 6, 6 and 1,1 may be provided with square heads adapted to slide in the said depressions, the nuts being mountedonzthe Yprojecting ends of said screws. Furthermore, `instead of having both screws 6, E or 'L ,-'I'slid ably mounted it may be suicient in some cases to have only one screwin eachppair s lidalole .while the other is xedly supported .by the base ,plate I. This latter arrangement d oesnot. permit ,of individual vertical adjustment of the holders, however.

What we claim is:

V1. A support of the 4character described, comvprisinga base plate provided with two Substantially parallel channel-,shaped depressions each having a-longitudinal slot, a pair of `n uts slidably mounted in each depression, a screw carried by eachnut and extending through the corresponding slot,each pair of screwsforming an adjustable fixturefora peiforatedholder tobe secured to the base plate, and a cover `member secured to the base plate and'fadaptedjto cover'thechannel-shaped depressions Vso as to guide the nuts and prevent the same from assuming an inclinedv position therein when the screws are removed.

A support of the character described, corn--Y prising Va base plateprovided with'two substantially vparallel and vertical channel-shaped depressions each having a longitudinal slot, a pair ofscrews provided with nuts slidablymOunQdin each depression andextending'through the corresponding slot, each pair of screws v,forming an adjustable fixture for a perforated -holder to be` secured to the base plate, and twolugs provided atthe upper .endof one of said channel-shaped depressions and bent so as to form a guide for the leg of a bracket to be secured to the base plate by means of a single screw.

3. A support of the character described, comprising a base plate provided with two substantially parallel and vertical channel-shaped depressions each having a longitudinal slot, a pair of nuts slidably mounted vin each depression, a

Ascrew carried by each nut and extending through the corresponding slot, each pair of the screws forming anV adjustable fixture for a perforated Vholder to be secured to the base plate, a pair of lugs provided at the Vupper end of one of said channel-shaped depressions and bent so as to form a guide f or one leg of a bracket to be secured to the base plate by means of a single screw, a cover member secured to the base plate Vand :adapted to cover the channel-shaped dethreaded perforations are provided in the vbase plate for the screw serving to secure the shaderoller bracket, said threaded perforations being located at a distance from each other .which is substantially equal to the length of the slot of said bracket.
