This case is distinguished from known cases by the fact that the side thereof opposite to that provided with the hinge for the leaves named by two elements of which the first is secured rigidly to one of the leaves, whilst the second is hinged to the walls of the half case in such a manner that in one of its positions it completes the said side of the case so as to form a base on.

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the case of the present invention in closed position.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view, the sewing machine having been removed and the various parts of the case being shown in intermediate positions during the course of the opening operation of the case.

Fig. 4 is a view of the open case forming an operating table for a sewing machine of which the free arm is engaged with a recess provided for this purpose in one of the leaves of the case.

The case is provided with two main parts or leaves I and 2 hinged together by means of a hinge 3 located in the central plane of the closed case and of one of the sides of the case.

The latter is also provided with a handle 4, for easy transport, and with feet 5 preferably of resilient material, such as rubber.

The'ponversion' of the case into an operating table is an'extremely simple operation. I'n'fact when the case is" closed (Fig. 1) it sufiices to cause" the leaf I to pivot for opening the case. Thesew ing machine is then exposed and rests on the elements 9 and II] which form the bottom of the case. As the lead I is open, the user has complete facility for removing the sewing machine from its case. After complete opening of the leaf I, that is to say after having moved it into a position in which the two large lateral faces of the case are located approximately in the same plane and in an extension of one another, the user moves the elements I0 towards the interior of the leaxf 2 by causing it to pivot on its hinge I I in the direction of the arrow A. When this operation has been completed he can place the operating table, fomned by the large faces of the leaves I and 2, on a table, the operating table being supported by the edge I2 of the leaves by means of which edges the leaves were in contact when the case was closed.

As the element In is folded and the edge of the element 9 is located in the plane defined by the edges I2, the operating table is supported in an entirely stable manner.

The shutter I is then opened and folded against the face of the leaf Ill so as to uncover the recess that"pro-'- vided with the hinge 3 is formed on theone hand by an element 9 secured rigidly to the walls 6 and to enable the free arm M of the sewing machine to be engaged with the recess (Fig. 4).

In fact there is now nothing to prevent the introduction of the base I3 of the machine in the interior of the leaf l as its lateral side on which the recess 6 opens is not provided with any wall, the latter having been formed in the case by the element l [Lwhich has been folded against the inside'of thelafi;

From the foregoing and by examination of the drawing it will be seen readily that the case, forming the subject of the invention. is extremely practicable and easy to convert into'an operating table for a sewing machine with a, free arm.

A form of construction of. a case has been described above by way of example and with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawing, but it will be understood thatvarious modifications in construction may be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
