1 Claim.
My invention relates to improvements in sanitary pad or napkin supports and similar devices.
My invention relates more particularly to an article of manufacture in the nature of a crotch support for sanitary napkins or other pads or applications, medicinal or otherwise, which are required to be held in the vicinity of the crotch of a human being.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a support of the type described which is capable of being held in position by means of elastic strap members which may be fastened about the waist and the legs of the wearer.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a support of the type described which will support a pad, sanitary napkin or medicinal application in the neighborhood of the crotch in a practically immovable position regardless of whether the person is active as in walking, sitting, or in an inactive position such as reclining.
A further object of the invention is to provide a support of the type described which is easily placed in position and adjustable so that it will fit any proportioned wearer within reasonable limits.
A further object of the invention is to provide a support of the type described that is easily and cheaply manufactured, yet will not become broken or worn out in spite of long usage.
Other objects and advantages will be more apparent from the following description wherein reference is had to the accompanying drawings, upon which Fig. 1 is a partial front view of a, human body with a support shown in position on the wearer in use as a sanitary napkin supporter;
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view thereof; and
Fig. 3 is a front perspective View of the same on an enlarged scale on the figure of a human body, the human body shown in dotted outline thereon.
In the embodiment of the invention which I have chosen to show and describe, in Fig. 1 I have shown my improved supporter in the position that it may be worn by a woman to support and retain a sanitary napkin. I provide a crotch piece In which is preferably a generally rectangularly shaped elongated strap of water-proof material, connected at the front end l2 thereof to an elastic strap member 14 which extends upwardly and loops through a triangularly shaped metal member l6 and is connected to the edges l8 and 20 of the front of the crotch piece I0. I provide a support strap 22 extending from the member [6 about the waist of a wearer back to the member 46, the waist strap having a pair of adjusters 2d, one on each side of the member it. At the rear end of the crotch piece It I provide a pair of upwardly extending rear support straps 26 generally tapered outwardly,-fixedly attached to the waist support strap 22 at the points 28.
For additional comfort and support for the wearer, I provide a pair of leg straps 28 which may be connected adjacent the front I2 of the crotch piece it and adjacent the back II thereof, each of the leg straps having a suitable adjustment 30 positioned near the front of the same.
In order to support a medicinal bandage, a sanitary napkin or other desirable packing fixedly and securely in the crotch piece it, I have provided the tabs 32 in the front and the back of the same, so that such bandage or other pad or packing may be securely positioned with safety pins or other desirable fastening means. It will be noted that in use the metal member I6 is spaced only slightly above the crotch line and well below the waist line so that the two front portions of the waist support member 22 taper upwardly in the front and around the body of the wearer and the back portion settles comfortably around the waist line of the wearer at the small of the back. This construction assists materially in holding the supporter comfortably in place, even though the wearer is running, walking, bending or sitting.
From the foregoing description it can be seen that I have provided a,supporter for a sanitary napkin, pad, medicinal packing or a bandage which is effectively held against the body of the wearer in the vicinity of the crotch in such manner that the wearer can stand, walk, sit or engage in other activity with the secure knowledge that the pad, bandage or napkin will be effectively held in position at all times. With the leg straps and their association with the waist strap which I have provided, the crotch piece holds the pad, napkin or bandage in position so that if the wearer moves about, the same will not have a tendency to move back and forth during the movement of the wearer. The support as a whole is effective in holding a sanitary napkin, pad or bandage constantly against the body of the wearer, thereby increasing the effectiveness of the pad or napkin during a menstrual period, or when it is desired to use the same to hold a medicant against a wound.
While I have illustrated and described a spemember, a strap extending from one front edge of said crotch piece upwardly looped through said metal member and back to the other front edge of said crotch piece, said metal member spaced slightly above the crotch line, and Well below the waist line, a waist support member adapted in use to be extended upwardly in both directions from said metal member so that the back part is at the waist line of the wearer around the small of the back and the front portions taper upwardly in both directions from said metal member, elastic leg straps connected from both sides of the front edge of said crotch piece around the legs of a wearer to the back edge of said crotch piece, and a pair of rear support strap members extending upwardly and outwardly from the two sides of the rear end of said crotch piece to said waist support strap.
