Claims.
This invention relates to the combination of a door and a handle therefor which is quickly and readily secured to or detached therefrom.
In many devices, such as stoves, it is, desirable to ship the stove with the handles removed. I have provided means which will enable the buyer of a stove to quickly apply the handles in a minimum time,-. and without the use of any tools.
-One of the objects of the invention is to providea combination door and door handle and. securing means therefor which permits the handle to be secured in place or detached with a minimum effort.
A further object of the invention is to provide a door handle and securing means therefor in the form of spring clips which tend to urge the handle into position and which does not require the use of tools for securing the handle in place.
A further object of the invention is to provide a door handle and securing means therefor which tends to reduce the heat conduction from the heated compartment to the outer surface of the door.
Further and more limited objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds and by reference to the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a view partly in section and partly in elevation showing the handle secured to a door panel;

Fig. 3 is a view on the line 33 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 5 is a view in elevation of the spring clip for securing the door and handle in place; and
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5 taken at right angles thereto.
Referring now to the drawings, the reference character I designates a door panel which is formed of metal. The reference character 2 designates the door handle which is preferably formed of cast metal and has thereon a pair of L- shaped lugs 3 and 4 preferably cast integral therewith and disposed adjacent the opposite ends thereof. Secured to the door panel are a pair of spring clips 5 which are disposed adjacent opposite ends thereof and held in place by bolts 6. Each clip comprises a flat portion I, a right angularly disposed portion 8, and an angularly bent portion 9 terminating in an end portion II! the edges of which are deflected inwardly. Each clip has an opening H therein which receives therethrough the bolt 6. Portions of the clip adjacent the opening II are deflected upwardlyv to, provide a pair of oppositely disposed projections 12 whichengagainthethreads of theboltt. .Each of the lugs-sand 4. has on the front, face thereofa circular projection I3 which, whenthehandle is in -.place, projects through p nssprovided in th vd r. p ne .When it is desired 10. .sficure the handle in place, the ,vertically disposed;- -1:lortions.3 and 4 onthe lugs; 3. andA. respectively. are placed immediately oventherspring end of the vclips andt the handle is forced downwardly until the circular projections l3 enter the openings in the door panel, as will appear from Fig. 2. When it is desired to remove the handle. the outer edge thereof is pressed downwardly to release the locking lugs I3 and the entire handle is then lifted upwardly against the tension of the spring clips.
When the door is opened and closed in normal operation, there is no tendency for the handle to be loosened or removed, as the movement of the door is downwardly and upwardly which does not tend to release the handle.
If desired, the clips may be secured to the door by means of the conventional bolts and nuts without resorting to the use of the upwardly deflected portions or projections l2, disclosed in Fig. 6, and which are adapted to engage in the threads of the bolts.
It will now be clear that I have provided a combination door and handle and securing means therefor which will accomplish the objects of the invention as hereinbefore stated. Various changes may be made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention. The invention is therefore limited only in accordance with the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In a mounting for detachably securing a handle to a door panel, said handle having a pair of spaced opposed lugs adapted to engage the door panel and each of said lugs having a boss adapted to project through a complementary aperture in the door panel, a pair of spaced clips secured to the door panel, each of said clips having a free end which is adapted to engage one of said lugs and resiliently hold it against said panel.
2. In a mounting for detachably securing a handle to a door panel, said handle having a pair of spaced opposed lugs adapted to engage ;,the door panel and each of said lugs having a boss adapted to project through a complementary aperture in the door panel, a pair of spaced clips secured to the door panel and adapted to engage said lugs and resiliently hold them against said panel, each 1.9 of said clips comprising a base rigidly secured to said panel, an arm extending outwardly from said base and a resilient finger secured to the outer end of said arm and adapted to resiliently engage one of said lugs.
3. In a mounting for detachably securing a handle to a door panel, said handle having a pair of spaced opposed lugs adapted to engage the door panel and each of said lugs having a boss adapted to project through a complementary aperture in the door panel, a pair of spaced clips secured to the door panel and adapted to engage said lugs to hold said handle in place, each of said clips comprising a base secured to the inner wall of said panel, an arm extending outwardly from said base through a slot in said panel whereby said clip is prevented from turning, and a resilient finger secured to the outer end of said arm and adapted to resiliently engage one of said lugs.

In a mounting for detachably securing a handle to a door panel, said handle having a pair of spaced opposed lugs adapted to engage the door panel and each of said lugs having a boss adapted to project through a complementary aperture in the door panel, a pair of spaced clips secured to the door panel and adapted to engage said lugs to hold said handle in place, each of said clips being formed from a single piece of metal and comprising a base secured to the inner wall of said panel by a single bolt, an arm extending outwardly from said base at substantially a right angle thereto through a slot in said panel whereby said clip is prevented from turning, an extension secured to the outer end of said arm at an acute angle thereto, and a finger secured to the outer end of said extension at an acute angle thereto and disposed in a plane perpendicular to the plane of said arm and adapted to resiliently engage one of said lugs.
5. In a mounting for detachably securing a handle to a door panel, said handle having a pair of spaced opposed lugs adapted to engage the door panel, said lugs and said door panel being provided with interengaging boss and aperture means, a pair of spaced clips secured to the door panel, each of said clips having a free end which is adapted to engage one of said lugs and resiliently hold said 111gagainst said door panel.
