Claims.
ihis invention relates to a barbecue pit, and the primary object of the invention is the provision of a barbecue pit constructed of separate, ore-fabricated parts which may be readily and easily assembled for use and disassembled after use,
Another object of the invention is the provision of a barbecue pit with means for easily rotating the entire pit on a base plate so that a correct draft may be assured at any and all times.
Yet another object of the invention is the provision of a barbecue pit whose parts may be easily, economically, and efficiently pre-fabricated with the use of conventional molding and welding equipment.
These, together with various ancillary objects and features of the invention which will later become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by the device, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated by way of example only in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the entire invention in assembly;
Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the assembled pit;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of the section line 33 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a side elevational view of the assembled pit;
Figure 5 is a horizontal sectional view taken substantially on the plane of the section line 5-5 of Figure 2;
Figure 6 is a vertical sectional view through the pit taken substantially on the plane of the section line 6-45 of Figure 4; and
Figure '7 is another vertical sectional view taken through the chimney and furnace portion of the pit and substantially on the plane of the section line 'll of Figure 4.
Specific reference will now be made to the drawings. In the several views in the accompanying drawings and in the following specification similar reference characters indicate corresponding elements throughout.
Generally indicated at is the barbecue pit in assembly. For supporting the pit, a concrete foundation I2 is provided with a circular angle iron carrier or rail I4 fastened thereto by means of bolts.
A base plate I8, having several wheel housings i8 integral therewith and axle pins in said housings for engaging wheels or V-rollers 22, is
2 positioned above the concrete foundation 20 whereby the V-rollers 22 fit on the carrier or rail.
Secured to base plate It by means of L-shaped brackets or angle irons 24 and bolts or rivets 26 is a furnace jacket 28. This jacket consists essentially of two vertical members the tops of which are preferably inwardly curved (although they may possess fiat top surfaces) as clearly shown in the figures.
Welded on the inside of furnace jacket 28 arelugs 30 for securably engaging fire clay 32 to said furnace jacket.
Longitudinally disposed through the furnace jacket, mounted on the inner surfaces thereof and extending through the fire clay 32 are grill supports or bars 34 upon which grills 36 are removably positioned for supporting the meat.
The back of the pit is provided with a fiat plate member 38 lined on the inside with fire clay 32 which is secured to flat plate 38 via lugs 30 in the same manner as provided on furnace jacket 28.
Removable metallic straps 40 extending transversely across flat plate 38 are provided at various levels which jut out at both ends of the fiat plate and which contain apertures 42 at the ends. Welded or riveted to the back portion of furnace jacket 28, at various levels, will be found apertured fingers or lugs 44. When apertures 42 are aligned with the apertures of fingers 44', bolts or screws 46 and appropriate nuts 48 are positioned therein to securably attach back plate 38 to furnace jacket 28.
Generally indicated at 58 is a conventional chimney of rectangular or trapezoidal cross section with lugs 30 secured to the inner surfaces thereof for holding fire clay 32 in place.
Welded or riveted to the sides of the chimney and at the bottoms thereof angle irons 52 are provided with apertures therethrough. Adjacent said angle irons 52 and welded or riveted to the top back portion of furnace jacket 28, L-shaped brackets or angle irons 54 are provided with apertures therethrough. When the apertures in angle irons 52 and thosedn angle irons 54 are aligned, bolts or screws 56 are positioned therein and secured by means of a nut. Thus the chimney is removably secured to the furnace jacket.
The barbecue pit may be constructed of appropriate durable materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, or wreught iron.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that a novel barbecue pit is provided having separate sections which can readily and easily be assembled, and which sections are of such design and construction as to make them adaptable for pre-fabrication in large quantities. It will also be seen that a barbecue pit is provided with means for rotating the entire pit by which better access to wind may be had. Moreover, if constructed of light materials, such as aluminum, the pit may be easily dismantled and rendered portable.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying: drawings.- it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of .the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed asnewis:
1. A sectional barbecue pit comprising in combination, a furnace jacket, longitudinal grill supporting means secured at Various levels to the innersuriaces thereof, grills removably positioned onsaid supporting means, a chimney, means for removably securing said chimney tosaid jacket furnace, a flat plate, means for removably securing said flat plate to the back portions of said furnace jacket, a base plate, means for-removably securing said furnace jacket to said base plate, and means secured to and beneath said base plate wherebythe pit may be rotated to any desiredpesitien, said furnace jacket, said chimney, and said fiat plate including a lining of fire clay and lugs secured to the inner surfaces of said furnace jacket, said chimney; and said'flat piate'for' retaining said lining of fire clay.
2'. The combination of claim 1, wherein said furnace "jacket includes eye lugs secured at various levels to-the outer surface of the back portion of said furnace jacket, and said means for removably securing said fiat plate to the back portions of said furnace jacket includes bars, fastener engaging apertures in the ends of said bars, and fastener means positioned through said apertures and through said eye lugs.
3. The combination of claim 1, wherein the means for removably securing said chimney to said jacket furnace includes angle irons secured to the upper portions of said furnace jacket and to the lower portions of said chimney, fastener engaging apertures in said angle irons, and fastener means positioned through said apertures.
4. The combination of claim 1, wherein the means for removably securing the furnace jacket to the base plate includes fastener engaging aperturesin said base plate adjacent said furnace jacket, angle irons abutting said furnace jacket and said base plate, fastener engaging apertures in said angle irons, and fastening means through said base plate and said angle iron apertures.
5. The combination of claim I, wherein the means secured to and beneath said base plate whereby the pit may be rotated to any desired position includes a circular angle iron beneath said base plate, \f-roll'ers' secured to said base plate and overlying said circular angle iron.
