.1 claim. 1
The invention has to do with an insulateddoor closure unit for room which are to be maintained at refrigerating temperatures; rooms whi.ch,,.are air-conditioned and maintained at, high andeven temperatures; and rooms, requiring acoustical control to dampennoises incident t the testing or operating of mech nical devices. The products and devices moved into and out of therooms of the above type. are often of considerable weight and volume, making it necessaryto install tracking above the insulated entrance. door onwhich a carriage or trolley equipmentis mounted for co veying theproducts or devices. into and. out of the room through the entrance doorway. The entrance door must of necessity wing beneath the tracking anda spaceprovided abovethe entrance doorway for the tracking. The opening in the wall of the room for theinsulated door closure unit is. made of suificientvsize not only to Provide for the entrance door. but. for he Open space the-reabove for the tracking.
The entrance door-frame. and casing areextended so as to close this openingabove the entrance door except a relatively small space immediately adjacent the tracking/formin what is commonly called a track port. This track port is. provided with a track door which is. hinged at the top. and whichis, raised and lowered by mechanical linkage to the entrance ,doorusothat when the latter is swung to open position the.
track door will swin upwardly to a minimum of 90 and remainin such position as long: as
the entrance door stands open,v an w lbe closed tightly seal the track door against the frame head casing of the entrance .door,,but atthesame time must. have flexibility of contactwith the trance to take care. of wear andtear of the gas ket provided for the sealing, of the track door and similar .wear and tear on the gaskets of the entrance door.
An object of the invention. i m p ovid ack door operating mechanism wherein the. linkage connectionbetween the entrance door and the track port door includes yieldable means so that the track port door maybetightly closed and sealed and not in any wayinteriere with the closing and tight sealing of the entrance door.
In the drawings:
Figure 1. is a view partly in section and partly in side elevation showing a door operated, mechanism, for the track port door with said track port door in closed position and the entrance door alsoin closed position;
Figure '2 is a view similar to Figure 1 but showing the track port door at substantial open position and the entrance door partially open.
Figure 3 is. a sectional view on the line 3- 3 of Fig re 1,.
Figure 4 is a view of a portion of the track door showing the same in closed position and the track in section.
The invention has to do with an insulated door closure, unit for rooms used for the purposes above described. The closure unit includes ;a door frame or casing having an extension which completely fills the opening provided for entrance to and from the room. Extending across the door frame is a head frame casing which is provided with an opening for a trackway. This opening extends into the doorway of the main entrance or walk-inv door so that products and devices moved, into and out of the room may be suspended from a suitable carriage or trolley -moving along the trackway. The closure unit includes a; main entrance-door and a track port door'whi'ch are so interconnected that when the entrance door is closed the track port door will also be closed and tightly sealed, and likewise when the entrance door is open, the track port door will be moved, to full openposition and remain in said open position as lon as the entrance door is open;
Referring more in detail to the drawings wherein one embodiment of the invention is illustrated, aportionof the head frame casing is indicated at; It; This frame-head casing is provided with a relatively small opening formed therethrough and extending all the way to the bottom of the head casing, through which opening extends a track T; This is the track on which the carriage or trolley-carrying the product or device moves into and out ofthe room. An entrance door D-is suitably'hinged to" the door casing. The rearpanel of the door engages a gasket carried bytherabbet H. The front panel I4 of the door carries a gasket I? which engages thedoor casing. Thus it is that the door, when closed, tightly seals the entrance opening,
The track port doorway'is closed and sealed by a door- D which is hinged at I9 to a suitable bracket l8 attached to the frame casing. The door-is pivoted to swing about a hingeconnection at the upper end of the door and when moved to anopen position, as shown in- Figure 2, it will swing to an angle of at least so as not to interfere with the travel ofthe carriage on the track;
The track port door is moved to and from closed position by a linkage andcammechanism which; inpart, is carried by the entranc door; This leakage for controlling the track port door includes a bracket 22 which is attached'to theinner or under face of-the track port doorD'. Pivotally connected to this bracket is an arm 23. Said arm is mounted between cars 24 and 25 passing through the bracket. Passing through 3 the ears is a hollow pintle 26. The arm 23 is provided with spaced members 2! and 28 and these members pivot on the pintle 26. i
A spring 23 encircles the pintle 26. The end 33 of the spring bears against the bracket and the end 3| of the spring bears against the arm end of the lever arm is pivoted at 37 to a link 32. This lever arm 35 carries a roller 38 which is adapted toengage between the inclined cam walls 39 and 4| carried by a bracket 40 fixed to the upper edge of the entrance door. In Figure l the entrance door is closed and likewise the track door. When the entrance door is swung away from its closed position, the bracket 40 .moving therewith will cause the inclined cam wall 4| to engage the roller 38 and this will swing the lever arm 35 in a clockwise direction, and the lever arm through the link 32 will move the track door to open position as shown in Figure 2. As the entrance door continues to swing toward open position, the inclined cam wail M will move out of contact with the roller 38. It is noted that the lever arm 35 and the link 32 are moved to a position so that the pivotal connection 31 between the two is beyond the line drawn through the pivotal connection of the link 32 to the arm 23 and the pivot connection of the lever arm 35 to the plate 34. In other words, the door is held open by the toggle lock between this lever arm and the link 32.
When the entrance door is movedtoward the closed position, the inclined cam wall 39 will contact with the roller 38 and will force the arm v track port door is tightly closed, the entrance door can continue to move to full closed position by reason of the fact that a pull on thelink 32 after the port door is closed, will swing the arm 23 in a counterclockwise direction as viewed in Figure 1. Swinging movement is resisted by the spring 23. The arm 23 and the spring associated therewith form a yieldable connection between the link 32 and the track port door.
A track port door D or the casing is provided with sealing gaskets 20 extending along the sides and top of the opening closed by the track port door. There is a slot 2| in the door which is of sufiicient width so that the track port door can move to closed position without removing the track.
Secured to the inner face of the track port door is a flexible sheet of gasket material 20a. This flexible sheet of gasket material extends a short distance below the lower edge of the track port door, and is provided with a slit 20b disposed centrally of the slot in the track port door. When the track port door moves to closed position, the
track T will enter this slit so that there is a sub-, 7
4 door in the region of the opening through the head casing.
When the parts are ,first installed, both doors may close' and seal simultaneously. It is preierred, however, to install the parts so that the movement of the entrance door towards closed position will efiect a tight closing of the auxiliary or track port door before the entrance door is tightly closed and then through this yieldable connection the entrance door can continue to move until it is tightly sealed.
When the entrance door is open the opposed inclined cam wall 4| will engage the roller 38 and force the lever arm 35 to swing in a clockwise direction. This will, through the link 32, force the track port door to full open position as shown in Figure 2. The arm 23 is limited in its movement toward the track port door by contact with the bracket 22. The track port door will, therefore, be positively opened but yieldingly closed by a pull resisted by the spring 29. g
It is obvious that if the gasket wears, this will not in any way disturb the tightnessof the closing of the doors as the arm 23 is moved away from the door resisted by the spring for the closing of the track port door, and therefore this spring connection will take up any wear and ensure that the track port door will be tightly closed by the movements of the entrance door. Fur.- thermore, the track port door will not at any time prevent the entrance door from fully closing and. tightly sealing the entrance doorway to the room.
, While the cam means for actuating the linkage between the doors is, mounted "on and movable with the entrance door, it will be understood that other arrangements may be provided for swinging the linkage. but it is essential that this means shall be so connected to the entrance door that the movement of the entrance door toward and from closed position will produce like movements of the track port door toward and from its closed position. I I
It is obvious that minor changes in the details of construction and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claim.
I claim:
In an insulated door closure unit the combination of an entrance door, a track port door, and means operated by the entrance door for opening and closing the track port door including a bracket attached to the track port door, an arm pivoted to said bracket, a link connected to said arm, spring means for moving the'arm toward the track port door, a lever mounted on the track port d-oor frame'and .pivoted to said link, and cam means operated by the entrance door when moved to closed position for swinging said lever to close the track'port door by a pull on said link restrained by said spring and for opening the track port door when the entrance door is opened.
