BRACELET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 246,146, dated August 23, 1881.

Application filed May 27, 1881.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES H. KELLEY, of the city and county of Providence, and State of Rhode island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bracelets; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

This invention has reference to an improvement in the class of bracelets in which the two wings are hinged to a central ornament; and it consists in providing such wings with levers inserted into the central ornament beyond the hinge, and placing between these two levers a spring made, preferably, of rubber or similar elastic material.

Figurel is a perspective view of my improved bracelet, showing the wings hinged to the outside of the central ornament. Fig. 2 is an en- 'larged sectional view, showing the central ornament, the wings hinged thereto in the position when the bracelet is closed, and the elastic spring placed between the short levers forming part of the wings. Fig. 3 is a sec tional view, showing the wings when open and .the levers compressing the elastic material.

bracelet. b b are the hinges. c is the central ornament, forming a hollow box, having two slits,through which the levers d d are inserted. e is a piece of rubber or similar material, which presses against the face of the levers d d, and thereby keeps the wings of the bracelet closed, forming a simple, cheap, and durable spring.

As the ends of the wings at the hinges are rounded, and as the slots in the central ornament are immediately back of the hinges, the joint is not visible, and as the elastic material is confined in the central box or ornament, the pressure exerted in the levers d increases as the wings are opened.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters Patent- The bracelet composed of the wings a, hinged to the outside of the central ornament, c, and provided with the levers d d, extending inside the central ornament, in which also is arranged the spring 6, fitting closely against said levers, substantially as described.
