2 Claims. 1
This invention relates to containers and more particularly to a combined dispensing and blade holding package.
An object of the invention is to provide a container which will dispense blades one at a time, as they are needed.
A further object is to provide a container which will not only dispense single blades but will provide means for disposing of the blades after they are used to avoid cutting the lingers and the other hazards of loose blades.
A still further object is to provide a container which may be made of relatively inexpensive commercial paper and which may be stamped out with commercial machinery and methods.
Referring more particularly to the drawings- Fig. l is a perspective view of the container em bodying a preferred form of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional View in elevation, taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 3 is a View showing the dispensing portion in operation.
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a perspective View of the outer container.
Fig. 6 is a perspective View of the dispensing portion of the container.
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the used blade compartment.
Fig. 8 is a View of the outer container in blank form.
Fig. 9 is a View of the hold blade container in blank form.
Fig. 10 is a View of the dispensing portion of the container.
The blanks are folded along the scored lines to form the outer container. Referring to Fig. 8 the panels I and I2 form the sides of the container, while the panels I4 and I5 form the ends. The tab I6 is pasted under the side I4 while the tab I1 on the bottom I8 is folded over the flaps I9 and 20 and under the sidewall to complete the bottom structure. The side I2 has a tab 2| which is used to lock the top 22 by passing into the slot 23 between the cover 22 and the tab 24. The end |5 has a slot 25 large enough to accommodate old blades.
Referring to Fig. 9, the used blade compartment is formed with side members 30 and 3|, a top member 32, a bottom member 33. It is also provided With end members 34 and 35. End member 35 has a slot 35 which in assembly registers with the slot 25 of the outlet. Between the top member 32 and the side member 30 is a cut 31.
In assembly the tab 33 is pasted under the bottom member 33. The tabs 39 are folded inwardly in the conventional manner, the tab 43 inserted under the side member 3| and the tab 4I inserted under the side member 3| to form a complete box which is inserted into the outer container. It will be noted that the out between the end 34 and the tab 39 attached to the top 32 is curved to produce a projecting member '12, the purpose of which will be discussed further.
The new blade compartment and dispensing section is provided with two side members 45 and 46 connected by an end member 41 and having an additional end member 43. rIhe end member 4G has a tab 41 adapted to be pasted behind the end member 48. Tabs 49 and 5G are adapted to be folded and held down by the top member 5| whose flap 52 is folded behind the end member 45. The side member 45 has a bottom member 53 with a tab 54. It will be noted that the bot tom member 53 is narrower than the top 5| so that an opening 55 is left when the container is assembled, as is clearly shown in Fig. 6. The end member 41 is also cut slightly higher than the end member 46 in order to form aslot 56 when the assembly is complete. Pending from the side member 46 is a tab 51 which in assembly is adapted to slide in the slot 31, as is shown in Fig. 7. In assembly the outer container is first assembled with the top open. The used blade compartment 10 is then assembled and inserted within the outer container with the slot 36 in register with the slot 25. The new blade container 8D is then assembled with the new blades Within this container and it is placed within the outer container with the tab 51 in the slot 31, and with the projection 42 Within the opening 55. The cover, or top, 22 is then closed and the tab 2| inserted within the slot 23 to look the cover closed. The top, or cover, 22 has a cutout portion 26 which forms a space in which the thumb of the operator may move. When it is desired to secure a new blade the new container 8|] is slide inwardly at which point the projection 42 holds the lower blade from sliding, as shown in Fig. 3, and causes it to be expelled through the slot 56. The limited travel of the member is governed by the movement of the tab 51 in the slot 31. Upon the return movement the blade 15, which has been pushed through the slot 56, will be frictionally carried forward so as to extend beyond the package Where it can be readily grasped by the user. After the blade has been used and is ready for discard, it may be inserted 3 through the slots 25 and 35 into the used blade compartment. Y
It will be seen that I have provided a complete package which not only dispenses new blades but makes provision for the disposal of old ones. It will also be appreciated that modications of my package'may be made to handle tems other'than blades without departing from the inventive concept.
I claim: Y
1. A container for razor blades, or the like, comprising an outer container having a slot in one wall thereof, a used blade container within said outer container having a slot in register with said slot in the outer container, a projection on said used blade container, a new blade container positioned above said used blade container Within said outer container and slidably mounted Vfor limited movement within said outer contaainer, the bottom of said new blade container defining an opening at one end thereof through which said projection on said used blade container extends, a slot in one wall of said new blade container at the opposite end thereof whereby the movement of said new blade container in one direction will `cause a blade to be engaged by said projection and ejected through said slot and whereby movement of said new blade container in the opposite direction will deliver said blade extending through said slot.
2. A container for razor blades or the like comprising an outer container having a slot through Y one Wall thereof, a used blade container within said outer container having a slot registering with the slot in the outer container, said used blade V.container having, an additional slot adjacent the pensing container through said slot in the endr thereof.
